Everyone at the North Pole was very excited. There was going to be a show and anyone could be in it.
“I will do skating,” said Arctic Fox. “I’m good at that!”
“I’ll do tumbling (翻跟斗),”said Polar Bear. “No one tumbles quite like me!”
“Then I’ll do diving,” said Whale. “I won a prize for diving at school, you know!”
But Walrus was not good at anything.
They all practised hard for the big show, while Walrus hid behind a snowdrift and watched sadly. He wished he was good at something. Then came the big night. Everyone sat down, waiting for the show to begin. Walrus sat in the front row. excited.
Fox came onto the ice and began to skate elegantly and amazingly! Fox made it look so easy.Walrus was sure he could skate just like Fox. He leapt onto the ice and cries. “Look at me!” But Walrus bumped into Fox, and Fox went flat on her face. Flomp! Fox was very upset. “Walrus has ruined my act,” she wailed(高声数落).
Then Polar Bear rolled out across the ice like a big, white snowball. Everyone clapped wildly. Then he did jumps and spins and somersaults, and stood on his head. Walrus was sure he could tumble just like Polar Bear. Suddenly, Walrus leaped into the ice. But Walrus tripped up Polar Bear, who came down with WALLOP! Polar Bear was very angry. “Walrus has ruined my act!” he waited.
Whale was the last. He leaped high out of the water. Then he fell back with an enormous splash! Walrus wished he could dive like that. He leaped into the water, crying “Look at me!” But just at that moment, Whale was spouting a big jet of water. Whoosh! Whale spouted Walrus high into the air! Everyone was watching Walrus. They clapped and cheered at Walrus landed back in the sea with a splash!
Whale roared angrily. “You have ruined my act. Get out of my sight!” Walrus fled and hid behind a snowdrift, feeling sad and a very sorry.

Police first received a report at 5:54 am that
Two people were killed after getting out of their vehicle to see what was causing congestion ahead. They were hit by an out of control tanker, police said.
When police arrived at that scene, they found a further five people had been killed when a construction vehicle was crushed by two large vehicles from both front and back. The crash was about three kilometers away from the accident that killed the two people on the expressway. The injured were sent to local hospitals.

7 . The rescue of an Austrian skier who was found alive after being buried by an avalanche is being called a “miracle”. Police in Upper Styria — the mountainous and forested region in southern Austria — said they were alerted on Christmas Day that a 26-year-old skier had not returned from the slopes. The man who alerted police said he had managed to get through to the skier’s mobile phone but heard only “cracking noises” on the line, the BBC reported.
A rescue team was able to trace the skier beneath more than 3 feet of snow using an electric avalanche victim’s transceiver (无线电收发两用机), which skiers are required to wear in avalanche-prone areas. They found the man was on a slope of Mount Pleschnitzzinken, in the northwestern area of Upper Styria. “You can’t move under a blanket of snow like this,” Stefan Schrock of the Styria mountain rescue service told Austrian public broadcaster ORF. “The man was extremely lucky that he had a big enough air pocket under the blanket of snow, so he had oxygen too and was able to breathe.”
The man was found about two hours after authorities were first alerted. However, the avalanche hit the region three hours before that when the man was buried in the snow. A rescue team and local police dogs dug the man out of the snow and he was taken down the valley suffering from hypothermia (体温过低). He was otherwise unharmed.
An avalanche also swept across a marked ski trail near the Swiss town of Andermatt on Thursday, injuring two people. Four others were either rescued themselves from the snow unhurt. Police and rescuers searched the snowslide after witnesses said more people might be buried, but the operation ended with police saying there were no more victims. The avalanche occurred mid-morning while many holiday skiers enjoyed mountain sunshine the day after Christmas.
