Peter Pan is one of the best-loved children’s books of all time. It was a play at first, as it became very popular and the writer James Matthew Barrie decided to write a novel. Barrie was born in Scotland, and he is the ninth of ten children. He loved reading and playing make-believe games about pirates (海盗) with his school friends. When he grew up, he wanted to be a writer, so he moved to London. He wrote novels and plays for theatres and articles for newspapers.
In London, Barrie often took his dogs for a walk in Kensington Gardens. One day he met the Llewelyn Davies family there: George, John Michael, Peter and Nicholas, and their mother Sylvia.
