Like many people, I have no clear idea about heroes. At some points, we all wonder if we need a hero and what a hero really is.

Although there are a lot of differences in cultures, heroes around the world generally share a number of characteristics (特征) which give us courage and make us want to learn from them.

A hero does something worth talking about. A hero has a special story to tell and people respect him a lot. But a hero is not just the person with great fame (名誉)．

A hero has larger power than ordinary people. Some people want to live like a hero, and they have to experience a life with newer and further meaning. If we want to know whether a person is a hero, it depends on what he wants to live for and die for. If the answer is that he lives for and dies for only his own fame, he may be a famous person but not a hero.

A hero has vision from the mountain top. He has the ability to think about or plan the future with his great and clever brain. Also, he is able to develop or even change the society and create new possibilities. Without Gandhi, India might still be part of Britain. Without Martin Luther King Jr., Americans might still take different buses, eat in different restaurants, go for walks in different parks, and shop in different stores because of the different colors of their skins.

There might be changes in society without no heroes, but the speed of change would be low. Thanks to the heroes in history, the society has developed so rapidly.

Rob Frenette has suffered from bullying(欺凌) at school for eleven years. He was often lonely and afraid at school.   

After a long time of suffering from sadness and pain, he decided to say goodbye to his past life and do something about his problems. When he was fifteen, he walked into a newspaper office and told them about the bullying. His story went into the newspaper and soon all the TV stations in Canada wanted to talk with him about his experiences.

After that, Rob continued his studies at school, but in his free time, he helped other people with bullying problems. With his friend Katie, he made a website called www.bullyingcanada.ca. Visitors to the website can find advice, stories and poems about bullying. When people are upset, they can talk online to Rob and his team. Every weekend, Rob has to answer e­mails to the website. He also speaks to children, teachers and members of government around the country about bullying. Rob’s most important message is: “When bullying happens to you, it isn’t your fault(过错). So you should try to keep trusting yourself. And remember that people care about your problems.”

One of Rob’s ideas is “Blue Day”, a special day for stopping bullying in schools. Students have to wear blue clothes in class, and learn how to stop bullying. More than 150 Canadian schools celebrate Blue Day now. However, Rob won’t stop until there’s a Blue Day in every school in Canada.
