In the days that followed, dear reader, I slowly became friendly with the emperor (皇帝) and his people. They did their best to make me feel at home. I learned that the name of their country was Lilliput (小人国).
The people of Lilliput called me “Man Mountain” and they came to see me. People had to pay to see me and the money made the emperor very rich.
The emperor and his people treated (招待) me well and helped me in many ways. They organized language lessons for me. Soon I began to understand people there and communicate with them.
But I was still a prisoner (囚犯) in my temple home (圣殿) and every day asked the emperor the same question: “ ▲ ” “You must be patient (耐心的),” he always answered.
Then one day the emperor gave me the freedom (自由) to walk around Lilliput. I could explore (探索) the land. I was careful not to hurt the people as I walked. Everyone stayed inside and ran to look at me. I enjoyed looking into the window of the emperor’s beautiful palace (宫殿) to see how he lived.
Everything seemed well and peaceful in Lilliput and I saw no problems for the people there. But I was wrong. One day a good friend, Reldresal, came to see me and told me about a conflict between Lilliput and a country nearby.
“My dear Gulliver, “ he said, “Please do not think that everything is good here in Lilliput. The truth is very different. We are fighting against a country called Blefuscu.”
