Germs are very small living things. They are so small that we cannot see them unless we use a microscope. They are found in all kinds of places, all over the world. There are four main types of germs that they can invade (侵入) plants, animals and people, and sometimes they can make us sick.
Bacteria (细菌) live just about everywhere on earth. Not all bacteria are bad. Some of them are good for our bodies. They help us keep things in balance. Good bacteria live in our bodies and help us use the nutrients in the food we eat and make waste from what's left over. We couldn't make the most of a healthy meal without these important helper germs! On the other hand, there are several types of bad bacteria, including those that cause sore throats.
Viruses (病毒) need a host to keep living. They need to be inside a place of a living plant or animal, including humans, or even inside a bacterium! Whatever a virus lives in is called its host. Once a virus finds the perfect host, the goal is to reproduce and spread. Viruses are pretty tricky because they can change quickly to fit a new environment. When viruses get inside people's bodies, they can spread and make people sick.
Fungi (真菌) are kind of like plants. Unlike other plants, fungi cannot make their own food from soil, water, and air. Fungi love warm and wet places. Most fungi are harmless. The kind that can grow on your skin can be treated. It probably won't hurt you. But it really makes you uncomfortable!
Protozoa (原生动物) are extremely small. Most of them live in water. Some protozoa actually eat bacteria and they are good because they also eat the waste of other small living things. Some protozoa are bad, and they live off of other living things, sometimes humans. For example, if a person drinks unclean water, protozoa may cause health problems.

Behind me I first thought it was a small, overweight dog heading towards me. I didn't think much about it, and looked carefully at any approaching children, as well as enjoying the morning sun.
What is wrong with that dog? I thought later on, as I looked back to check on the small dog—it was moving much too fast for itself.
A few minutes later, I felt as if I was being watched, I looked behind me, but the dog had disappeared. Then, as I slowly turned my attention back to the road, I was greatly surprised to see a large koala at my feet and staring right up at me. A number of different solutions crossed my mind. But staying calm was the best. "Are you waiting to cross the road?" I asked the sweet koala. Miss Koala looked away, and scratched (抓挠) behind her ear.
Then it got up on all four feet and impatiently started to cross the road. I quickly checked for any cars, then walked to the road with my stop sign held high, whistle (吹哨) to my lips, and held my breath.
The koala made it to the other side of the street, then continued following the path through the trees and disappeared into bushes.
So why did the koala cross at the school crossing? To safely get to the trees on the other side!

The world is always full of surprising things. Everyone expects to see the beautiful eye-pleasing flowers and plants. It is reported that there are about 390,900 plants in the world. The following may not be so eye-pleasing, but are certainly eye-catching.
Baseball Plant
This ball-shaped plant used to be only found in South Africa. It is thought to be endangered(濒临灭绝的)in the natural environment in which it lives, yet it’s commonly planted around the world. Luckily, some special gardens have started to grow this plant to make sure that it no longer needs to be got from the wild so that it does not die out.
African Starfish Flower
Don’t fall for its beautiful flowers. It smells like bad meat, and its colors and hairs really look like those from a dead animal. This works wonders for attracting insects, even from a great distance. This is also a plant in danger as the result of less and less living space. This has been a problem for collectors hoping to have the plant at their home, as well as the Zulus, a group of people in Africa who use the plant as medicine.
Bat Flower
The black bat flower is an unusual flower that grows in the wild of Yunnan Province in China. It needs a special environment to grow. This is the reason why it is an endangered plant. As a result, the bat flower attracts a lot of attention from collectors and gardeners. It is famous for its bat-shaped black flowers. Its leaves look like the wings of a bat. There’s no question how the plant got its name.
Venus Flytrap
Venus flytrap can be easily found in many places. It lives mainly on meat. It survives like other plants by getting energy from gases in the air and the soil. However, it also eats insects. It opens its mouth wide and the hairs inside try to attract any insect that might land. As soon as it senses an insect, it shuts the mouth and begins to enjoy the food.
Plants take in CO₂ from the air and make oxygen. They help keep soil in their place. Many of them are commonly used for making our environment look better, and some of them are also used as medicine, food and so on. You are lucky if you see one of the plants mentioned above.
