Crossing the river (过河)

A bird and a duck want to visit (拜访) their friend, Mr Dog. On the way there, they must cross a river.

Then they get to the river. The bird says to the duck, “We must fly (飞) across the river.”

“No. We must swim across the river,” the duck says to the bird.

They can’t agree with (同意) each other. An old cow comes up to them and says, “You are both right. Birds are good at flying. Ducks are good at swimming. You can cross the river in your own way(用自己的方法).”

Long long ago, there was a tiger in the forest. One day a small fox met the tiger in the forest. The fox was afraid of the tiger. The tiger was hungry. He caught the fox, but the fox got a good idea quickly. He said, “Wait! I’m the king of the forest. You can’t eat me!” The tiger couldn’t believe(相信) it. The fox said, “Let me show you.” They went into the forest. When the animals saw the tiger behind the fox, they were afraid and ran away. The tiger thought the animals were afraid of the fox. The tiger set the fox free(放……自由). The fox looked like the “real” king of the forest.

One day a crow ______ a piece of meat. She picked it up and ______ to a tree. Then a fox saw her and said, “Wow! You are ______ than before.” The crow flew to a taller tree. Then the fox said again, “You have a good voice. Why not sing a song?” This made the crow very happy. She opened her mouth and wanted to tell the fox he was ______ now. Suddenly, she ______ the meat. There is a rich old man in a small town. He has a lot of money.

One day, he meets three men—a factory worker(工人), a cook and a fisherman(渔夫). He gives them three seeds and says, “Bring me the flowers in three months. The man with the most beautiful flower can get my money!”

After three months, the factory worker brings a big red flower, and the cook brings a small purple flower. But the poor fisherman brings nothing. He is very sad.

“I don’t know why!” he says. “I watered it every day.”

“You are honest(诚实的)!” the old man says. “The seeds are bad and will never sprout(发芽). The money is yours!”

The fisherman is very happy, but the other two men feel ashamed(羞愧的) and sad.

Once upon a time, some children found a turtle. They began to beat(敲打) the turtle. At that time, a man came and said, “Stop!” The children ran away quickly. The turtle was very thankful and gave him two boxes. The turtle said, “Here are two boxes, but you can open only one. You mustn’t open both. Don’t forget(忘记)it!” “All right. I will open only one,” the young man promised(许诺).

After he went back home, he opened the bigger one of the two boxes. The box was full of gold. “Wow!” he cried. “I’m rich now.” Then he thought, “Things in the other box must be expensive(贵重的) too.” He broke(违背) his promise and opened the other box. As soon as he opened it, he became an old man. His hair turned white. His face looked like an old man over eighty years old. It happened in a moment. He was sorry for what he did. But it was too late.

8 . It is a hot summer day. A crow (乌鸦) is thirsty. He is looking for water everywhere. Then he is so happy because he finds a water bottle. But there is a problem (问题)! The opening of the bottle is too small，the crow’s beak (鸟嘴) cannot fit in. The crow thinks and thinks. Finally he has a good idea. The crow finds some stones (石头) and puts them inside the bottle. The water rises up (上升). Now he can drink the water. How clever he is!
