May I Borrow Your Tail?

One day a snake bites off a gecko’s tail. The gecko is very sad. He wants to borrow a tail.

He sees a fish in a river. “May I borrow your tail, Sister Fish?” the gecko asks. “I’m sorry. I can’t swim without my tail,” the fish answers.

Then he sees a horse under a big tree. “May I borrow your tail, Uncle Horse?” the gecko asks. “I’m sorry. I can’t drive the flies away without my tail.” the horse answers.

At last, he sees a bird. He asks the bird, “Aunt Bird, may I borrow your tail?” “I’m so sorry. I can’t fly without my tail,” the bird answers.

The little gecko can’t borrow a tail, and he is very sad. He tells this to his mother. His mother smiles and says, “My baby, please look behind you.” The little gecko looks back and says happily, “I have a new tail!”

The twelve Chinese zodiac animals are having a meeting. They are discussing who will be the big brother. They will have a running game to decide the result. Who runs to the finishing line first, he will be the big brother. They all agree to the idea.

At first, the bull runs faster. The rat runs second. He is very worried. He says to the bull, “My dear bull brother, I know you are running fastest of all. I am a small animal. I can’t run any more. Can you carry me on your back?” The bull thinks the rat is very weak, so he agrees.

And they go on running. When the bull almost gets to the finishing line, the rat jumps off from the bull’s neck and goes across the line. In the end, the rat becomes the first one to cross the line. He becomes the big brother of the twelve animals.
