Spanish language schools in Puerto Rico

Fittingly known as the “Island of Enchantment”, Puerto Rico is straight out of a Caribbean daydream. Among endless beaches, travelers are offered an unmatched chance to learn Spanish while bathed in the beautiful sunshine!

Course types

University courses

University-based language courses offer travelers the most structured linguistics (语言学) program, combining classroom instruction and group tours with homestay experiences. Though an intermediate (中等的) level of Spanish is often required, travelers are afforded the opportunity to gain academic credit and work alongside their peers.

Group programs

Independent language schools, though often more expensive than university-based courses, afford students across all linguistic levels the opportunity to take part in a study abroad program. From long-stay programs to certification (认证) courses, travelers may undertake specialized classes based on their individual language needs.

Private instruction

Private instruction offers the most flexibility to travelers looking to combine education with fun, with classes offered alongside additional studies. Private instruction in Puerto Rico won’t break the bank, costing as little as $15 per hour!

文章大意:本文是一篇记叙文。文章讲述了公交车上的英俊男士竟然是一名残疾人,让Danny明白了知足常乐的道理。

Danny Smith worked for a celebrated firm and he had an affectionate family. Danny’s parents regarded themselves to be the luckiest, to be blessed with such an amazing child. But on the other hand, Danny was not happy with himself, since he thought himself to be an ugly, unconfident and unattractive person.

One evening, while returning home from work, he, along with many people, was waiting for the bus. On arrival of the bus, Danny somehow made his way into the bus and managed to find a seat.

After sitting, he looked around the bus and noticed a handsome and charming man sitting opposite him. On looking towards the man, Danny became discouraged once again regarding his looks and personality. All types of bad thoughts started coming in his mind that he was not worth this beautiful world. He thought that lucky man, with such a beautiful and attractive face, must always be the center of attraction.

Danny became jealous of that man and could not bear him in front of him. So he changed his seat to avoid him. On the way all the negative feelings kept coming to his mind, imagining how his life would have been only if he were more handsome and good looking.

Finally on reaching the destination he came out of the bus. As he was walking, a person suddenly pushed Danny from back. Danny angrily turned around and what he saw brought tears in Danny’s eyes.

The same “fortunate” man he had been envying all his way had difficulty in walking, since his one leg was shorter than the other. The “fortunate,’ man apologized to Danny, but Danny couldn’t say a word and walked away with tears in his eyes and guilt in his heart.

While walking, he realized that we must be satisfied with what we are and even the basic qualities that we have might be a dream to someone else. So we should be grateful for what we possess.

文章大意:本文是说明文。文章主要讲述在太空遨游的宇航员不仅要认真工作,也要尽情玩乐。

Space travelers on the International Space Station pull twelve-hour shifts(轮班), including six and a half hours of lab work, among other duties. They sleep eight hours, leaving them the other hours to idle in the space. If the timing’s right, they call home to catch up. They watch their schools play football. NASA has sent up playthings like guitars, keyboards, and a saxophone, as well a chess set.

Staying entertained is important because when you’re on long space flights, feeling bored can be dangerous, “It leads to performance errors,” NASA Senior Operational Psychologist James Picano tells me. Breaking a tool is a lot more worrisome when you’re trying to keep a spaceship that weighs hundreds of thousands of pounds on course. In addition, playtime also allows the team to learn pop culture and helps Americans relate to their high-flying stars.

But space travelers might not always have that solid link to Earth. NASA’s plans to go to Mars by 2040 may require a seven-month journey. Maintaining a constant signal over such a vast distance will be tough, but when technology permits, space travelers could watch TV series. NASA is also looking into virtual reality(虚拟现实)so space travelers can spend an afternoon at the beach.

“What will the people we send to space do for fun many years from now, when they’re setting up shop on Mars and the moon?” I ask him. “Boy, I have no idea,” Picano says. But he draws my attention to the South Pole’s McMurdo Station, which once just had a simple bowling alley (保龄球球道)and now has a wine and coffee bar. “We are creators,” Picano adds. “If you send scientists to extreme environments, they will invent ways to stay entertained. It never stops amazing me.”

8. What is the passage mainly about?
A.How we keep space travelers entertained.B.What space travelers do every day.
C.The duties of the space travelers.D.The achievements of NASA.
9. What does Picano say about playtime in a spacecraft?
A.It is strictly limited by NASA.
B.It sometimes causes serious mistakes.
C.It is usually related to American pop stars.
D.It helps keep space travelers working smoothly.
10. What should NASA do to give space travelers a better life?
A.Reduce their workload.B.Improve the quality of signals.
C.Increase the speed of spaceships.D.Allow them to have more spare time.
11. Which of the following will Picano probably agree with?
A.Most scientists have very little time to play.
B.It is hard to lead an interesting life on Mars or the moon.
C.Space travelers will play in imaginative ways in the future.
D.Fun activities in space will be tested at the McMurdo Station.

文章大意:本文为新闻报道。由Kingswim进行的一项调查数据显示,51%的澳大利亚成年人只能不间断地游50米。然而,孩子表现更好,统计数据显示,儿童游泳课程正收到成效。

Worrying new figures from a national survey conducted by Kingswim have revealed 51 percent of Australian adults can’t swim 50 metres or more without stopping. However, the news is better for our kids, with statistics showing that childhood swimming lessons are paying off.

“These statistics are reflected in the Royal Life Saving 2018 Drowning Report, with 32 percent of drowning deaths occurring in the 55+ age range compared to 19 percent for under 25s,” says Kingswim Marketing Manager. Rowena Thomasson.“While these are terrible statistics it’s not all sad news; the survey revealed younger demographics(群体) had a much higher swimming ability, which correlated with the swimming lessons they received as children.”

Kidsafe Victoria CEO Melanie Courtney says that swimming lessons are a critical part of comprehensive home pool safety defence. “Children can drown quickly and silently in just a few centimeters of water. Swimming lessons, together with active adult supervision—both in and around water—first aid knowledge and a well-maintained pool barrier are critical elements in keeping your family safe over the coming summer season.”

Mum of three, Jenny Ong says she knows all too well the anxiety caused by not being able to swim as an adult. “Neither my partner or I am confident in the water so teaching our girls to swim was always going to be difficult for us,” she says. “I won’t swim anywhere, I can’t touch the bottom and I don’t want my children to feel the same uneasiness in the water. My eldest two now both take regular lessons which they absolutely love and I’m relieved to know they’re mastering a lifesaving skill.”

The research proved that children with professional swimming lessons to subsidise any lessons at home were much more confident in their ability to swim as an adult. “Close to half of people aged between 18 and 24 say they had swimming lessons through three or more channels, with 84 percent believing they received adequate swimming lessons as a child — demonstrating how crucial it is for children to receive professional swimming lessons in addition to anything taught at home,” says Thomasson.

12. What can be learned from Paragraph 2?
A.Childhood swimming lessons work.B.Drowning happens frequently.
C.The Drowning Report is disappointing.D.More children get drowned than adults.
13. According to Melanie, how many factors are there to ensure home pool safety defence?
A.Two.B.Three.C.Four.D.Five.

15. Which of the following can replace the underlined part “to subsidise” in the last paragraph?
A.To replace.B.Added to.C.To make up.D.Giving way to.
