Midi Festival

As a rock festival, the Midi Festival 2017 in Beijing presented a musical carnival for fans. It was the 18th year of the outdoor music feast. This year, a lot of rock bands from home and abroad performed on three stages. With beautiful scenery and exciting music, it was a good opportunity to enjoy rock with friends and family.

Fans of Painting

Ancient Chinese calligraphers(书法家) and painters were fond of painting on the folds of fans. Their excellence has left a wealth of outstanding works. A fan painting show exhibited 990 Ming and Qing Dynasty calligraphy and painting works on folding fans.

Poetic Portraits

Two artists held a joint exhibition with paintings featuring portraits of Chinese women in poetic poses. Wang Xiaojin, who is from Shandong Province, has been exhibiting since 1993. The other artist, Xu Zhigang, is originally from Liaoning Province, but is now in Beijing.

Group Show

The other day, I came home from work to find my son Lucas ignoring me. When I asked him what he was up to, he said he was working on some schoolwork and couldn’t talk. Seeing the focus and attention he was giving to this “assignment”, I decided to wander over and see what he was up to. After sitting next to him for a minute, I was lost in focus, trying to observe and remember as many details of the crime scene as possible. This was my son’s school. He logged in with his iPad, and did all his schoolwork online. This was his Forensic Science course.

After completing this “assignment”, Lucas decided he wanted to go out and played basketball and then danced while playing his guitar. He may be only 15, but he sets his own schedule. He has shown he is responsible when it comes to this.

Last summer, my wife needed to develop a website for her new business. We had looked into some services online, but my son insisted he knew how to do it. After consistently surprising us, we decided to give him a shot. When we saw the final results, we were floored. We could not believe a 15-year-old child created this professional-looking site.

I could not be happier with our decision to send Lucas to an online school. He is learning far more than he would be at his public school. I can actually have an adult conversation with him. More and more birds are flying to settle at Qinghai Lake, one of the highest inland lakes in China, thanks to the protection efforts of local governments. Covering an area of over 4,000 square kilometers. Qinghai Lake is also the country's biggest saltwater lake. Located in Northwest China's Qinghai Province, the lake is famous for the two islands at its northwest point--Cormorant Island and Egg Island. The two islands have plenty of floating grass and various schools of fish, offering rich food sources for birds. The islands have become a paradise(天堂) for different kinds of groups of birds and have been called"Bird Islands".

Each March and April, when ice and snow covering the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau starts to melt, over 20 kinds of birds fly to the Bird Islands to lay eggs. During the months, flocks of birds cover the whole sky over the islands and birds eggs can be found everywhere. Visitors can hear the singing of birds from miles away. These have become a world famous symbol of the lake.

To protect this paradise for birds and support calls for ecological protection, China set up the Qinghai Lake Natural Protection Zone at the end of 1997. Meanwhile, the State has pointed out the Bird Islands and Spring bay of the Qinghai Lake as central protection zones.

Inspection(视察) officials and management employees often patrol（巡逻） the lake, improving local residents' knowledge of related laws and spreading knowledge about animal protection to visitors.
