Hearst Castle is a park on the central California coast and a National Historic Landmark. It was designed by Julia Morgan for William Randolph Hearst from 1919 until 1947. In 1957, the owner donated the fortune to the state of California. Since that time, it has been a state historic park where its large collection of art and antiques are open for public tours. Despite its location far from any urban center, the site attracts roughly one million visitors per year.

The bus driver had often seen her traveling on the bus before, and he notices that she was feeling unhappy, so after she had paid her money, he winked (眨眼) at her and whispered, “Don’t forget to give your mother’s card back to her when you see her again.”

Dear Dad and Mom,
The time has come—I’m graduating, and I thank you both for all your help during these 15 years. I still remember when you used to say, “You can be whatever you want.” I’m so glad you are my parents, especially when I hear kids say they don’t get on well with theirs. I’m glad that you support me when I decide to do anything. You always try to help, and that’s important to me.
Dad, I remember when you first took me fishing. I loved going even though I never caught anything. I also remember when you would get angry with me. I realise you were only trying to show me the right way. When I cried, you would always be there to try to cheer me up. That’s what I call a good, loving, caring dad. Sometimes you and Mom don’t agree with me, but you are there on my side in anything that I do, and that’s why I love you both so much.
Mom, I enjoy going out with you and having our happy time every Friday night, and I hope that never changes. I love telling you everything and the best part about you is that you listen. I’m glad we do a lot together. You love to have fun, and Dad does, too. You always give me your opinion and I listen. Thank you for bringing me up.
There may be many frustrations and setbacks on the road to the future, but the thought of your support and help fills my heart with strength. Dear Mom and Dad, I love you and I love our family. I hope and believe that we will be happy all the time.
Love always,
Alison

If you have a chance to go to school in America, you should keep the following in mind.
If a teacher asks you a question, you are expected to give an answer. If you do not understand the question, you should raise your hand and ask the teacher to repeat the question. It is all right to tell your teacher that you do not know the answer. Then he or she knows what you need to learn.
There is no excuse for not doing your homework. If you are absent, you should call your teacher or your classmates and ask for the homework. It is your responsibility to find out what homework you have missed.
It is impolite to eat, drink or chew gum during class. This is allowed for the break. Removing one’s shoes in the classroom is also impolite.
You must not be absent on a test day. If you are seriously ill, you must call and let the teacher know you will not be there for the test. If your teacher allows a makeup(补考),you should take it within one or two days after returning to class.
It is rude to be late. If you have to come in late, be sure to do it quietly by having your books and papers out of your bag, then go to your seat and sit very quietly. In the US, it is not necessary to knock before you enter the classroom. Most teachers will give you a low grade if you are often late.
Copying another student’s test or paper is never acceptable. It is called cheating. Students who cheat are kicked out in most schools.
