【推荐2】Alton Towers is the most famous theme park in the UK which has been successfully running since 1980. The park is set high in the hills of Alton in Staffordshire and it is hidden amongst the trees.
The buying up of the theme park has caused more and more money to be put into the park which is only good for thrill (兴奋) seekers! The amount of new rides is increasing but at the expense of the admittance fees. However the higher fees by no means stops people from visiting though with still around 2.5 million visitors each year.
The theme park is open this year from the 17th March through until 11th November. This gives riders the nice hot British summer time to enjoy the rides with preferably less rainfall. The gates to the park open at 9:30 am and the rides and other attractions open at 10 am. To make the most of your money and your day I would suggest getting there on time or it will seem wasted. When I went we got there at around 1 o'clock and because of that we didn’t get around everything we wanted to.
The cost of getting into the park these days is very expensive so trips there I think for most families would be few and far between. There are many different prices as the cost changes depending on how you pay and when you want to go. There are three sets of prices, normal day ticket, event day ticket and buying online. The prices are as follows:
Adult | Child Under 12 | Disabled |
Normal Day Pass: £32 | Normal Day Pass: £22 | Normal Day Pass: £16 |

The theatre changed a lot during Shakespeare’s lifetime. The authorities didn’t like it and didn’t allow acting in the city itself: They thought it had a bad influence on people and kept them from going to church. Queen Elizabeth, on the other hand, loved acting and helped the theatre become popular.
The theatre in Shakespeare’s time was full of life. People did not sit all the time and it was not quiet during the performance. The audience could walk around, eat and drink during the play.
Theaters were open arenas or playhouses that had room for up to three thousand people. There was almost no scenery because the dialogue was the most important part of the play. Colourful and well-designed costumes were very important and told the people about the status of a character. Women never performed in plays, 80 young boys played female characters. The performances took place in the afternoon because it was too dark at night.
There was no stage crew as there is today. Actors had to do everything themselves-from making costumes to setting the stage. Plays were organized by acting companies. They performed about 6 different plays each week because they needed money to survive. They had almost no time to rehearse (排练).
The companies in Shakespeare’s time had a rank system. The company belonged to shareholders and managers. They were responsible for everything and got most of the money when the company was successful. Sometimes they even owned their own buildings. Actors worked for the managers and after some time became a permanent member of the company. Apprentices (学徒) were young boys and were allowed to act in unimportant role. They also played female characters in plays.

Every year London’s Royal College of Art (RCA) organizes its Secret exhibition and sale. The idea behind it is simple. The College invites both established, well-known artists and young art students to create an original piece of art based on just two rules — the work must be done on a postcard and must be signed on the back in order to keep the artists’ identity a secret. All the cards are exhibited for a week and then sold in a one-day sale at a price of just £40 each.
Since the first exhibition, Secret has really captured the public’s imagination. Now over 1,000 artists take part in the event each year. The postcards can be viewed in person at the RCA or online. Part of the fun is deciding which of them is by a famous artist or designer, and which is by a hard-up art student. Buyers could end up with a great investment or just a pretty picture by a student the public has never heard of.
Secret was set up in 1994 and was the brainchild of an RCA student who wanted to help raise funds for fine art students at the college. Since its beginnings, over one million pounds has been raised for the Royal College of Art Fine Art Student Award Fund. The money has helped hundreds of students in the early stages of their career. Professor Glynn Williams, Head of Fine Art of the RCA said: “RCA Secret is about securing the future of the next generation of artists and when the public buy postcards at the event they are helping to make this possible. It’s one of the fairest art sales in the world — everyone has an equal chance of getting a big name.”
As well as raising much-needed funds for the students at the College, RCA Secret has attracted loyal support from a group of art lovers who have been visiting the show since it started. It is not only one of the most popular events at the RCA, but it has also developed into an important date in the British art calendar.

As time went by, people forgot his real name. Later, when Rockefeller, the board chairman of the oil company, heard of it, he was very surprised, so he invited Albert to come to his office.
“Some people give you a nickname for ‘Four dollars a bucket’. Why aren’t you angry?” asked Rockefeller with some puzzlement in his eyes.
“Oh! Mr. Rockefeller! I like this nickname very much, because ‘Four dollars a bucket’ is our company’s advertisement. As long as someone calls me ‘Four dollars a bucket’ once, I think it’s a free advertisement for our company. I have no reason to get angry. Don’t you think so, Mr. Rockefeller?”
“Oh! What a fantastic man!” Rockefeller said excitedly when hearing Albert’s words. “Young man, work harder! You must succeed in the future! I believe in you!”
Five years later, Albert became the second board chairman after Rockefeller.
