Everyone is born with the ability to learn. There are normally two types of learning in our daily life and study — active learning and passive (被动的) learning.
Active learners think about information deeply and critically. Being thoughtful is an important part of active learning, because it means that you are analyzing and absorbing the information.
All in all, behavior of an active learner and a passive one varies greatly. Equipping yourself with study strategies (策略) of active learners may eventually help you become one of them

【推荐1】Attacking school fears
There are real fears and imagined ones. Most school dangers are imagined.
Fear of failure
Most students have plenty of ability to meet school demands. Most assignments and courses are within reason, more likely to be boring than difficult.
Fear of teachers
This is clearly an unreal fear. Look around at your fellow students. Some of them will be teachers. As you can see, there is nothing special about them.
Fear of talking in class
Anyone can make a mistake, but an hour later people will not even remember a mistake was made.
This fear can help you watch for real danger. The future can be dangerous. But to let it keep you from trying new things would be to give up life. Your own experience shows that most of the time things work out all right. The more things you try out, the more you will feel at home.

B.Fear of potential danger |
C.Rarely is it lack of ability that makes people fail. |

【推荐2】Frequently Asked Questions about Assessment
Does it matter if my coursework is too long or too short?
The word count for each piece of coursework should be provided on the title page. IOE allows a 10% margin(差额)on the word limit set for the coursework. For example, if the word limit is 5, 000 words, you can submit an assessment of between 4, 500 and 5, 500 words. Note that if your work exceeds (超出)the 10% margin, it will automatically fail.
When is the deadline for coursework assignments?
Final deadlines for coursework submissions are normally 2 calendar moths after the end of term in which the module runs. Coursework deadlines will be published on your programme webpage at the start of the academic year. The deadline for reports is normally the first working day in September. Note that you MUST submit your coursework by the deadline and that failure to do so in automatic fail.
When will I receive the grade and feedback for my coursework?
Your coursework and report are independently marked by two members of staff. Once the markers have agreed a grade, you will be informed of your results by the programme administrator. We aim to complete this process within 4 weeks of the submission deadline. Feedback and grades are not guaranteed within 4 weeks for extended, delayed, or resubmitted coursework. In special circumstances, you may apply for additional time to complete your coursework but must submit the evidence proving you are impacted by unforeseen factors. The time should be not later than two weeks before the original deadline.
If you are in any doubt about the assessment, please contact the programme administrator.

The good news is that wearable technology, such as smartwatches, is beginning to provide such information. The smartwatch-like systems contain sensors that collect data.
Jessilyn Dunn is a biomedical engineer at Duke University in Durham. Her team asked 49 volunteers to wear wristbands before and after they received a cold or flu virus. At least once per second, these wristbands recorded heart rates, body movements skin temperatures and more. After analyzing the data, Dunn’s team found that in nine out of very ten volunteers, there were signs of developing illness at least a day before symptoms (症状) appeared.
The early warning, says Dunn, can head off severe symptoms that otherwise would send some people into hospitals. And knowing you’re sick before you have symptoms can warn you to lie low so you can reduce the chance of spreading your disease.
However, these systems aren’t yet ready for the real world, notes virologist Stacey Schultz-Cherry. “This is exciting but also very preliminary (初步的),” says Schultz-Cherry. “Much more work is needed before this approach can be rolled out on a larger scale.” One challenge is that many infections (感染) have analogous symptoms. Actually, besides viruses, many other things also lead to signs of a cold or the flu. Examples, Schultz-Cherry notes, include food poisoning and seasonal allergies (过敏反应). Likewise, heart rates also respond to things that have nothing to do with infections. Examples include exercise and scary movies.
Researchers expect continued improvement in prediction accuracy (准确性). Future models will show signs of developing illness. And researchers will adjust those models by analyzing how well they predict effects on thousands of people.

Over 3,000 people was divided into four groups. The first group were asked to have a warm shower every day. And the second group were asked to end it with 30 seconds of cold water, the third with 60 seconds of cold water, the fourth with 90 seconds of cold water. After a three-month follow-up period, they found that the groups that had cold shower had a 29 percent drop of self-reported sick leave from work.
The reason why cold water might stop people from getting ill is not clear, but some research suggests it may have something to do with improving the immune (免疫的) system. A study from Czechia showed that when athletic young men were asked to take cold shower three times a week for six weeks, it gave a slight improvement to their immune system. However, more studies are needed to prove these findings.
Cold water has also been shown to improve the movement of our blood. When we are taking a cold shower, there is less blood flow to the skin. When the cold water stops, the body has to warm itself up. And then there is an increase in blood flow to the surface of the skin, improving the movement of our blood.
There is also some evidence that a cold shower can help you lose weight. A study found that cold water at 14℃ increased metabolism (新陈代谢) by 350 percent. Metabolism is the process by which your body changes what you eat and drink into energy, so a higher metabolism nearly equals more energy burned.
A cold shower may also help you feel less stressed and get you less likely to feel down. Because of the high density (密度) of cold receptors in the skin, a cold shower sends a large amount of electrical waves from the the brain, which may help people get out of stress and stay positive. While cold shower may do good to our health, we should still be careful to try it.
1. How did the researchers get the conclusion of the study?A.By watching videos. | B.By surveying volunteers. |

Recently, the only child of her mother's colleague died at the age of 35, and all that was left to his lonely, old parents was sorrow. Dong, a researcher of social science in Beijing, says she doesn't want such a tragedy (悲剧) to happen, and hopes to be able to support her family even if she is gone. Buying insurance became one of her wisest choices.
She pays about 350 yuan every month for the life insurance, and about 300 yuan annually for critical illness insurance with coverage of 4 million yuan, in case she runs out of money for “having to treat a serious disease someday” "It's a good way to face the unpredictable risks of life with a small amount of money. Of course hopefully I won't use it," she says, adding she purchased insurance on Alipay, as she is too busy to visit insurance companies in-person, and she plans to continue investing (投资)in it.
The younger generation, those born in the 1990s, in China is showing a higher interest in buying insurance, driven by the increased awareness of crisis and a willingness to improve risk resistance ability, experts say. The fact that more people get severe diseases at a younger age or feel their worse health condition, as well as uncertainties brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic(流行病) to both their personal lives and on a Socio-economic level, also strengthens anxiety and is contributing to the trend.
