September is the month for fashion, with four international cities hosting the fashion week. All eyes will turn to New York, London, Milan and Paris this month to see which city puts on the best show.
New York
New York Fashion Week (NYFW) Spring 2020 kicked off on September 4th, 2019 and ran for approximately eight days. NYFW is considered the most commercial and casual of the four. It is also the only event to allow some fashion school students to participate, bringing a fresh look to the runway.
London
London Fashion Week (LFW) Spring 2020 came on the heels of NYFW Spring 2020, starting on September 12th, 2019 and running through September 17th, 2019. Once considered a minor player among the “Big Four”, LFW can now command a list of big names as well as promising new designers. London fashion houses have a reputation for being very experimental and open to new ideas.
Milan
Fashion Week Spring 2020 moved to Milan on September 17th, 2019. This beautiful Italian city is home to some of the biggest fashion houses and designers in the fashion world, including Armani and Prada. Milan's fashion houses are known for offering glamorous (富有魅力的)yet practical options.
Paris
The month of fashion made its way to France as Paris Fashion Week Spring 2020 began on September 23rd, 2019. Saving the best for last, Paris never fails to offer some of the most exciting shows of the season. World-famous brands like Chanel and Dior try to outdo one another with their latest designs. In a few weeks, White Castle restaurants will test a robot arm that can cook French fries and other foods. The robot, called Flippy, is a product of Miso Robotics, a company based in Pasadena, California.
Robot food service was becoming popular even before the coronavirus pandemic(冠状病毒). Hospitals, college dining areas and other places tried to meet demand for food while keeping labor costs low. Robot chefs appeared at places like Creator, a restaurant in San Francisco. Now, some say, robots may become necessary for the food service industry. "I expect in the next two years you will see much more robotic adoption(采纳)in the food space because of COVID-19," Jain said.
Some peoples say, robots can lower the demand for labor. At the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock, cafe workers used to spend six hours per day making salads, notes Tonya Johnson, the school's director of nutrition services. But two years ago, the university added a Sally, a kind of robot that now makes around 40 salads per day. By adding Sally, the school was able to cut a job opening in its cooking staff, Johnson said. "I think the pandemic has made us realize how much we need more equipment like Sally," Johnson said.
Miso Robotics co-founder and chief Buck Jordan said fast food restaurants are already having trouble finding workers, partly as a result of a losing population of young workers. Jordan added that his company's position is that "automation(自动化)is not a choice". He added, "You must automate in order to survive in the future."

Now, most regulations across various cities in China still require the presence of a safety driver in vehicles, but the company foresees that as more data gets captured over time, that requirement would be reduced, Xiao told CNBC's “Street Signs Asia" on Wednesday.
The autonomous driving tech firm chose to partner with Alibaba's AMAP — a Chinese mapping service provider --- to roll out its RoboTaxi ride hailing service in Shanghai on Monday. AMAP is a "super mobility app" with almost 500 million active monthly users, according to Xiao.
AutoX had received support from Shanghai authorities to roll out a fleet of 100 autonomous ride-hailing cars in Shanghai's Jiading district in September last year.
Earlier this month, AutoX announced that it had set up an 80,000 square feet RoboTaxi operations center in Shanghai to help facilitate (使容易)operations of its driverless fleet, as well as act as a center to collect data from daily operations.
Backed by investors such as Alibaba, Shanghai Motor and Dongfeng Motor, AutoX is one of the players in the trillion U.S. dollar Chinese autonomous driving vehicles market alongside others like DiDi Chuxing.
Xiao said they were working with the technology to ensure the vehicles were "very, very safe" and are carrying out a lot of testing.
Over a hundred vehicles have been arranged on roads daily to obtain enough data needed to validate the software and system, according to Xiao.
He added that the company was also running a hundred times more simulations (模拟)in the car every day, and the “huge amount of data" would help to prove that the vehicles could be used in "full safety".
“Our goal is not to just make (it) as safe as human beings, but going one step forward to really make...a superhuman safety standard; (cars) that (can) drive much safer than any human being ever,“ Xiao said.
1. What will be most required to go driverless according to CEO of AutoX?A.Traffic regulations. | B.Driving technology. |

While numerous researchers found that simultaneous (同时的) use of electronic devices has a harmful impact on learning, a researcher, professor Shelly J. Schmidt of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign said many students dismiss warnings about the negative consequences because they consider themselves such good multitaskers.
While the faculty (全体教员) restrict or ban students’ unapproved use of cellphones and other devices in the classroom, these policies can be difficult for instructors to enforce and cast technology as “the enemy”. “Banning technology use in the classroom suggests to our students that they are children who can’t learn to appropriately handle it, rather than young adults we are helping to grow into professionals,” Schmidt said.
While it’s virtually impossible to make students limit all distractions in class or out, Schmidt said teachers and parents can encourage youths to develop an internal locus of control (内控点).
Researchers found that media multitasking during schoolwork disturbs students’ attention and working memory. Students may understand less and have difficulty recalling what they have learned and applying it in new contexts. Their reading comprehension, note-taking ability, test performance and grade point averages all decrease, according to the studies Schmidt reviewed.
Some researchers suggest that mobile devices can worsen a form of social anxiety called the “fear of missing out” that forces people to interrupt their studies and work projects constantly to read and respond to social media posts and messages, negatively affecting their performance. When working on the projects that require lasting concentration, Schmidt said intentionally removing irrelevant devices from their workspaces can help people limit distractions and resist the urge to respond to every buzz or ping sent by their phone.
1. What does Schmidt find in the recent research?A.Students are good at multitasking while studying. |
B.Students are not affected by the use of electronic media. |
C.Students attach great importance to using electronic media. |

B.They produce inequality among students. |

C.Why some students perform badly in learning. |
D.The role the brain plays in learning. |
A.It is caused by social media use. |

C.It makes many people suffering stress. |

To the accompanying music of “The Sportsmen’s March”, elephants, camels, monkeys, zebras, sheep and bears will march onto the field. They will be competing in the various events of the “Games” including bicycle racing, skating, gymnastics, boxing, football and rope skipping.
Boxing is always a highlight as the two best fighters - the bears - are said to be the respective kings of the South and the North. Heihei is from Heilongiang Province and Guigui is from Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. The match looks interesting and exciting but both boxers won’t fight according to the rules. They never listen to the referee (裁判).
Sea lions are skilled ball players in the water. But even an excellent player can sometimes make a mistake. When a sea lion misses the ball, it puts its “hands” to its face as if ashamed of the missed shot.
If the audience are brave enough to accept a kiss from a sea lion, they can have their picture taken with the animal.
The organizers also invite the audience to compete with another star of the “Games” in a game of tug-of-war (拔河). An elephant will be on their opposite side. But even 20 strong men won’t be a match for this elephant. Just by using its trunk, it can pull all comers to the ground.
