Douglas Castle is small and largely in ruins, but wandering around it makes for an enjoyable way to stretch your legs.
The service station was privately owned until 2014,when it was acquired by Westmorland. The company has made a point of ensuring the food is to its trademark firstrate standard.

Christmas Oratorio by Johann Sebastian Bach
One of the festive classics is Bach’s Oratorio, which was composed for the Christmas of 1734. It's divided into six parts — each with its own sound and story — that would have been performed separately on feast days during the Christmas season. Profound and reflective. it contains some of the most moving choruses you’ll ever hear.
The Nutcracker by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky
You’d be hard-pressed to find anyone who wouldn't recognize the playful opening notes of the “The dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy”. The tale of a toy soldier who comes to life,The Nutcracker is a firm Christmas mainstay and a master class in musical storytelling. Delightful and imaginative, the piece is the bread and butter of ballet companies around the world.
Messiah by George Frideric Handel
Handel’s crowning achievement is widely considered to be one of the most performed pieces during the holiday season around the world. Famous for its rousing “Halleluiah” chorus, the oratorio was surprisingly not intended for Christmas originally: Handel wrote it with the Easter Lent (四旬斋) in mind.
A Ceremony of Carols by Benjamin
Britten This contemplative (冥想的) choral piece was inspired by English poetry from The English Galaxy of Shorter Poems, which Britten purchased while on a five-week voyage from New York to Britain in 1942. Featuring beautiful chants and heavenly harp parts, the piece feels both modern and ancient.

Potato Eaters
Potato Eaters was Van Gogh's first major work and, despite a distinct lack of colour, it was one that he was most proud of. His aim was to represent the difficulties of country life, so the farmers are painted in earthy tones with rough faces and bony hands. He was more concerned with conveying his message than achieving technical perfection in this painting.
Irises
Van Gogh finished almost 142 pieces during his stay in the Saint Remy de Provence asylum (精神病院), where he was a voluntary patient from 1889 to 1890. This piece was started shortly after he arrived there. The hospital garden provided much inspiration for the artist during his stay there. Originally, the flowers in this work were painted purple but the red pigment (色素) faded over time and has now turned blue.
Cafe Terrace at Night
Despite being painted more than 130 years ago, this cafe still exists in France and has since been renamed the Cafe Van Gogh. This artwork marks the first time Van Gogh's famous post-impressionistic star-filled sky was seen in a piece, and it was painted on the ground, in person, rather than from memory. While the artwork doesn't bear his signature, it's widely known to be Van Gogh's, as he mentioned Cafe Terrace at Night in a number of his letters.
Wheat Field With Cypresses
This piece was inspired by the view from Van Gogh's asylum window and was finished on the spot. The work was the title of three paintings that offer an insight into his stay at the hospital.' Van Gogh was 80 pleased with the summer landscape that he made three copies there, one of the same size—which hangs in the National Gallery and two smaller copies which he planned to gift to his mother and sister.

Radha Taralekar helped teach Imelda how to protect herself from HIV, though the two have never met, and neither knows the other’s name. Taralekar received no payment for the job. She is one of a number of talented people who regularly donate their time online. But what is driving them to help total strangers, while asking for nothing in return? For Taralekar, the project gave her the chance to us her professional experience. “I want to serve people with my medical knowledge,” she says.
For some, the inspiration to volunteer online was far more personal. After losing his wife to cancer, Tony Selman spent many hours online helping Cancer Research to collect data on the disease. “Seeing how painful she was when my wife was dying, I determined to help scientists find a cure for cancer,” he says.
Interests and hobbies are also one of the factors (因素). In 2011 Sam Luk, a designer, joined other online volunteers to try to help the police solve a murder case. The police posted them online, calling for volunteers to help them make sense of the messages. “I’m interested in patterns and I love Sherlock Holmes,” says Luk.

To be successful, Beaumont will have to complete the 18,000 mile route in less than half the time he took when he set the record nine years ago. He will also have to knock about 40 days off the present world record.
Beaumont, 34, will begin his difficult journey on 2 July and will have to travel 240 miles a day to get around the world on time. Beaumont set the world record in 2008, completing his cycle around the globe in 194 days.
As a warm-up to the trip, he will first cycle around the coastline of Britain. The 3,500-mile, 15-day training ride will be at “80 days” pace and will see Beaumont cycle for 16 hours and 240 miles per day.
The cyclist said his average day would see him on the bike at 4:00 and riding for four sets of four hours with half-hour breaks in between. “I’ll get off the bike at 9:30 at night, get some sleep until the alarm goes off at 3:30 and then get back on the bike.”
He said: “I cycled around the world nine years ago but that was unsupported, wild man-style, trying to find clean water and a place to sleep. This time it is Tour De France-style. I have a support team behind me and it is just about performance. That makes a huge difference.”
Beaumont said he thought cycling round the world “sounds like a good idea”. He said he had cycled across Scotland as a 12-year-old boy and had been doing endurance rides for the past 20 years. “I know what I’m taking on,” he said. “It scares me, but I believe this is possible.”

And, as local TV station reports, he was pretty close to realizing that dream, planning for a visit to Disney's Animal Kingdom just in time for his seventh birthday this month.
Then he heard the story of the hurricane: how it transformed the Bahamas into the unhappiest place on Earth—and how it continues to churn up(搅动)the East Coast, leaving tears in its wake.
How could Bell dream of Disney World when so many others were living a nightmare?
So the boy gathered his savings—and went to the grocery store. Instead of a romp(嬉闹)in Disney's Animal Kingdom, Bell bought much-needed food and water for thousands of people forced to leave their homes in advance of the storm.
“The people that are traveling to go to places, I wanted them to have some food to eat, so they can enjoy the ride to the place that they're going to stay at,” Bell told a reporter. Indeed, Bell made it hard for anyone to miss his offer. He pulled a couple of homemade signs to Highway 125 in Allendale with the words "Free hot dogs and water" on them. And he stood at the side of that highway, calling out to motorists, many of them tired and traumatized after leaving their homes behind. In all, he served more than 100 evacuees(被撤离者).
"I am very proud," his grandmother Aretha Grant told CNN. "We knew Bell was very special, but we didn't know he was special in this way, to be such a giver like this."
Indeed, at his little stand in Allendale, Bell is giving people something much more precious than hot dogs. He's offering hope—and along the way, the little boy with the big heart is making his own magic kingdom.
