I teach online and have been doing so for years .I understand the value of traditional face-to-face course offerings for certain courses and certain subjects. I doubt an online course in chemistry can ever be as effective (有效的) as a face-to-face course held in a lab. Fortunately, I teach writing, and the Internet is an effective place for teaching subjects that call for careful reading and discussion.
It is true that there are things I cannot do in my classes on the Internet. It is also true, however, that there are things I cannot do in my classes held in traditional classrooms. So the question we should ask is: What works better or worse in face-to-face classes rather than in online courses, and vice versa(反之亦然)?
One of the things I value most in my online classes is the necessity for everyone to take part in order to show their presence. In my face-to-face classes, a student can sit quietly and appear to be engaged in(积极参与) the discussion without ever offering a thought or opinion. Online, I consider a student who sits quietly but who does not join in the discussion to be simply not present. Further, students in face-to-face classes who are too shy or who are talked over by quicker and louder voices have the chance to take part in an online discussion.
When I teach online, my students and I can be inside or outside and we can sit wherever and however we want. In Michigan, where a winter storm can make going to campus dangerous or even impossible, the ability to learn in class from the comfort of wherever you live is a big advantage. When the weather is not nice, I often teach while sitting in a local coffee shop. When the weather is nice, I often teach while sitting in my backyard.
I agree that online education is not a “recipe (秘诀)for personal success.” Then again, I’m not sure traditional face-to-face education is such a recipe, either.

The kids are practicing mindfulness. That means they are learning to pay attention to the present moment. Why?
Being mindful can help people stay calm and focused, according to Heim. She is the founder of Green Generations. The organization brings mindfulness classes to eight schools in New York City.
Isafye Lewis, 10, has been taking in the class at P.S.54 for two years. "Mindfulness teaches me to relax, " he told TFK. "It really helps me feel better when I'm sad or angry."
At P.S.54, students practice mindfulness through deep breathing, movement, and relaxation exercises. But Heim says that mindfulness is about more than just staying calm. It also boosts confidence. "It helps children have a right attitude, " She says, "so they can make healthy decisions."
Recent research published in Developmental Psychology supports this view. The study also found that mindfulness training can help kids succeed in school. That's because it trains the brain to pay attention and manage stress.
"It doesn't solve math equations for kids," Mariam Gates, author of This Moment Is Your Life, told TFK. "But what mindfulness does for all of us is help us focus on the moment we're in, which is the only place we can learn, change, or grow."
But you don't have to be in a classroom to practice mindfulness. Gates says, "You can always bring your attention to this moment and change how you experience it."

The curriculum, which is available to any schools that choose to use it, does point to industrial agriculture as being a major source of greenhouse gas emission. It encourages students to “eat less dairy and meat, have meatless days each week, eat more fruit and vegetables, drive less, recycle and buy second-hand products when possible”. Some of these suggestions, however, are being challenged for not being scientifically sound.
But animal agriculture is widely accepted in the scientific world as a driver of emissions, particularly methane (甲烷), which warms the Earth 86 times faster than carbon dioxide. A brand new study has shown that cutting the consumption of animal products by 50% would reduce dietary-related greenhouse gas emissions by 35%. It is just one of countless other studies that have made similar conclusions.
Kids aren’t clueless (笨的). They hear about the coming global catastrophe (灾难). They deserve to be given the tools with which to comprehend it and to take action. They deserve the knowledge with which to make their own decisions. The curriculum is a response to kids “really crying out for something like this”, in the words of an official from New Zealand.
There isn't about biting the hand that feeds, but rather engaging in thoughtful debate over how humans could be fed in ways that are better and gentler for the planet. Livestock farmers shouldn't be so offended, but rather be open to this debate so as not to become outdated or irrelevant.
1. What's Lumsden's attitude towards the new curriculum?A.Unconcerned. | B.Disapproving. | C.Ambiguous. | D.Skeptical. |
A.Advocating green lifestyles. | B.Blaming traditional agriculture. |
C.Challenging experts' suggestions. | D.Forbidding eating dairy and meat. |

Sure, it’s good to get along with your teacher because it makes the time you spend in the classroom more pleasant.
And yes, it’s good to get along with your teacher because, in general, it’s smart to learn how to relate to the different types of people you’ll meet throughout your life.
But really, there’s one super-important reason why you should get along with your teacher. When you do, “learning bursts right open,” says Evelyn Vuko, a longtime teacher who writes an education column called “Teacher Says” for the Washington Post newspaper.
In fact, kids who get along with their teachers not only learn more, but they’re more comfortable asking questions and getting extra help. This makes it easier to understand new material and do your best on tests. When you have this kind of relationship with a teacher, he or she can be someone to turn to with problems, such as problems with learning or school issues, such as bullying(欺负人).
As a kid in a primary or middle school, you’re at a wonderful stage in your life. You’re like a sponge(海绵), able to soak up lots of new and exciting information. On top of that, you’re able to think about all this information in new ways. Your teacher knows that, and in most cases, is very excited to be the person who’s giving you all that material and helping you put it together. Remember, teachers are people, too, and they feel great if you’re open to what they’re teaching you. That’s why they wanted to be teachers in the first place --- to teach!
Some kids may be able to learn in any situation, whether they like the teacher or not. But most kids are sensitive to the way they get along with the teacher, and if things aren’t going well, they won’t learn as well and won’t enjoy being in class.

C.there’ll be more problems with learning |
D.there’ll be no problems with learning. |
A.You are getting on well with your teachers, so you have more questions than others. |
B.You find it comfortable to ask questions, so you can build a good relationship with teachers. |
C.You have a good relationship with teacher, so you can turn to him/ her when in trouble. |
D.You are in trouble, so you can build a good relationship with teachers. |
A.Teachers are exited even if you wouldn’t like to accept their teaching. |
B.Teachers sometimes have the same feelings as students do. |
C.Though few there are still some students who can learn even if they don’t like the teacher. |
D.Having a bad relationship with your teachers does more or less harm to your studies. |

Supermodel Bella Hadid is finally coming clean about having plastic surgery (整形手术), but she is speaking out on her regret of having it done when she was 14, according to a Vogue report.
“I was the uglier sister. I wasn’t as pretty as my sister Gigi,”the twenty-five-year-old said. “That’s really what people said about me. And unfortunately when you get told things so many times, you do just believe it.”
“Now I wish I had kept the nose of my ancestors,” Hadid said.
Approximately 229, 000 cosmetic(整容的) surgeries were performed on teenagers between the ages of 13 to 19 in 2017, which accounted for approximately four percent of all cosmetic procedures.
But experts caution that rhinoplasty, otherwise known as a “nose job”, is not recommended until the growth of the nose is completed, which is typically around ages 15 to 16 in females and ages 16 to 18 in males, although in certain situations, such as a child with cleft lip(兔唇), the procedure may be performed earlier.
“Some teens are more psychologically mature than others, but it’s important to note that their brain development is not at a point where they can really think through long term implications(含 义) and the possible consequences,” said Dr. Diana Zuckerman, president of the National Center for Health Research.
Cosmetic procedures improve confidence in teenagers rather than the actual physical changes, especially for those who have poor self-esteem(自尊), according to Dr. Steven Pearlman, a facial plastic surgeon.
Zuckerman argues that in an ideal world, surgeons would delay certain surgeries in teens, while parents would work with their children to delay decisions of cosmetic procedures“... until a teenager is of age, like at least 18.”
