Subject: “Museums of the World” Travel plan
Here I' m sending you the travel plan for some of the interesting and unusual museums of our "Museums of the World" tour with the full schedule next week.
The Museum of Bad Art (MOB A) (Boston, the U.S.A) shows what it describes as “art too bad to be ignored”. The museum hopes to bring the worst of art to the widest possible audience. As part of the visit, we'll be shown some truly awful portraits, landscapes and sculptures.
The Devils Rope Museum (in McLean, Texas) and The Kansas Barbed Wire Museum (in La Crosse, Kansas) both claim to have the best barbed wire collections, telling the story of the wire's role in the development of America. We'll be visiting both of them.
The Washington Banana Museum (Auburn, Washington, the U.S.A.) contains 4,000 objects related to the history of what the museum describes as “the world’s most perfect fruit". During a guided tour around the museum, we'll learn all sorts of interesting things, such as the fact that the bananas were introduced to the U. S. A. in 1878 in the same exhibition where Alexander Graham Bell's telephone was displayed, and that banana is now the U. S. 's number one selling fruit.
The Hair Museum (Avanos, Turkey) is located in a cave in Cappadocia, in Central Anatolia. It contains 16,000 samples of people’s hair. You'll be offered a chance to add your own hair to the collection. Later in the year, the museum manager will select 10 donors to attend a pottery workshop.

These stars produced the essential building blocks for entire galaxies (银河系), for planets, and for the creation of life in the universe.
In this fascinating masterclass with Dr Emma Chapman, the author of First Light: Switching on Stars at the Dawn of Time, she will attempt to fill in the missing first one billion years from the timeline of the universe, by revealing more about the earliest stars — how they were formed and why they were so unusual.
Emma will also discuss recent discoveries in astrophysics, including what the James Webb space telescope is revealing to us about the origins of the universe, and what the next big missions in space exploration will be.

Victoria Falls
Victoria Falls has always been considered to be an incredible place worth taking pictures of. There are a lot of spots that tourists love. Some of them are very dangerous for people. Yet the brave are ready to overcome their fear for a shot of a lifetime.
Arctic Cliff Face
A cliff does not make the most comfortable place for camping. Camping on the ground is far safer anyway. Despite all the inconvenience, the new trend is rapidly gaining popularity among climbing enthusiasts and outdoor addicts.
Auckland’s Sky Tower
Auckland’s Sky Tower is popular with bungee jumpers. Some celebrities, such as Beyonce, have already tried it, which proves that the place is not only safe but popular as well. The tower is 630 feet tall. At the top of the structure there is an observation deck (甲板).Trust us, most of those reading this article would prefer to stay on the ground rather than climb up this scary structure.
North Yungas Road
The Road of Death is the right name given to a road in Bolivia. Hundreds of people die here every year. The major cause of all those accidents is the road. The problem is that it is too narrow and badly maintained while here the traffic is heavier than anywhere else. Nevertheless, it seems like tourists will continue visiting this strange road despite its scary nickname.

The environmental effects caused by meat consumption (食用)—waste, animal treatment, health problems and even the greenhouse gas effects that are potentially caused by methane gas produced by cows—have given rise to a number of startups(新兴公司)looking to develop meats in different ways.
For example, San Francisco-based Memphis Meats is developing cell-based meats in its labs without requiring any animals. Israel’s Future Meat Technologies is doing the same by producing fat and muscle cells that are being tested by chefs in Jerusalem. All of these companies use special processes to harvest cells from animals and grow them in a lab.
But don’t worry if you’re not a meat lover. Startups such as Jet Eat, which is also based in Israel, are working on food products grown in labs that are plant-based and replicate (复制) meats using natural elements while still keeping flavor, consistency and the “overall sensory experience”, according to a report on NoCamels. Jet Eat, which was founded in early 2018, aims to 3D-print their lab-grown products by 2020.
As you can imagine, there are plenty of barriers facing the industry. Educating the public is a big one. Another controversial issue is the labeling of the products. Recently both the USDA and the Food and Drug Administration(FDA) announced that they will begin jointly controlling the new “cell-based meat” category.
Many of us have concerns about the challenges facing future generations as our global population increases and the earth’s natural resources decreases. The good news is that there are plenty of businessmen around the world—like those producing lab-grown meats—who are working to solve some of these problems and make a little money in the process. Nothing wrong with that.
1. Why do some companies begin to develop new kinds of meats?A.To analyse the causes of air pollution. |

A.They cost less. | B.They are plant-based. |
C.They are more delicious. | D.They are available on the market now. |

“When I was a child, the peasants cut down the trees to make grasslands and charcoal, and the water dried up and did not come back,” he told the reporters. “I thought:‘Water is valuable, no one makes water and the population will not stop growing. What is going to happen? We are going to run out of water.’”
With only some donkeys and a small team of hired workers, Antonio Vicente set about bringing back the forest to his land. What started out as a weekend hobby soon became a permanent way of life , and Antonio recalls often spending whole days and nights in his young jungle, surrounded by rats and foxes, and eating banana sandwiches for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Over the last 40 years, he has planted an estimated 50,000 trees on his 31-hectare land, which now make up a small but unique area of rain forest, and a haven for wildlife.
As the forest grew, the water returned, and Antonio says that there are now over 20 water sources on his land that were no longer there when he bought it. Then the animals started making a home there. Today, the forest is alive with the sounds of birds and insects living there, and more species are settling in every year.
“There are toucans(巨嘴鸟),all kinds of birds, squirrels, lizards, and even the boars are returning,” 83-year-old Vicente says. “If you ask me who my family are, I would say all this right here, each one of these that I planted from a seed.”

【推荐3】Last Monday, I decided to go into a superstore to prepare a picnic. It was a huge one, spread onto 2 stories. After 45 minutes of shopping to just get some tomatoes, cheese and 3 toothpicks-yes, the ratio time/articles is ridiculous-I arrived to the cashier line, thoughtful and a bit frustrated by the time I spent to get 3 articles. I wondered why I did not go to a small local store.
After 15 minutes of waiting in the line, the woman in front of me called me, "Hey you only have 3 articles? Pass before me. I have more articles than you!" It wasn’t the first time it had happened to me. She did not wear any mask, so I could see her smile. Not knowing what else to do, I accepted her offering. We chatted a bit waiting for the customers ahead of us to finish-she was incredibly pleasant. Then I thanked her, giving her back my brightest smile (although I was wearing a mask).
Getting back in my car, I rethought about that good moment, and realized that she made my day. In the meantime, I wondered how to give it back to her. No doubt it was quite impossible, so I considered how to pay-it-forward to someone else. While driving, I realized that she saved me 10 minutes. And while I was driving at 70mph, I reduced my speed to 55mph. My fuel consumption(消耗)strongly dropped down by 35%.
Admittedly, I re-lost part of the 10 minutes that the woman offered me, but it was a way to repay her and do a small thing for the environment.

【推荐1】I accidentally heard a father and daughter in their last moments together at an airport. They had announced her plane's departure Standing near the door, he said to his daughter, "I love you. I wish you enough." She said," Daddy, our life together has been more than enough. Your love is all I ever needed. I wish you enough, too, Daddy." They kissed good-bye and she left.
He walked over toward the window where I was seated. Standing there, I could see he wanted and needed to cry. I tried not to intrude (干涉)on his privacy, but he welcomed me in by asking, ''Did you ever say good-bye to someone knowing it would be forever?" "Yes, I have," I replied.
Saying that brought back memories of expressing my love and appreciation for all my dad had done for me. Recognizing that his days were limited, I took the time to tell him face to face how much he meant to me. So I knew what this man was experiencing. ''Forgive me for asking, but why is this a forever good-bye?" I asked.
''I am old and she lives much too far away. I have challenges ahead and the reality is, her next trip back will be for my funeral," he said.
"When you were saying good-bye, I heard you say, 'I wish you enough.' May I ask what that means?”
He began to smile. "That's a wish that has been handed down from other generations. My parents used to say it to everyone." He paused for a moment and looked up as if he were trying to remember it in detail. He smiled even more. "When we said 'I wish you enough,' we were wanting the other person to have a life filled with enough good things," he continued and then turned toward me. He then shared the following as if he were reciting it from memory:
"I wish you enough sun to keep your attitude bright. I wish you enough rain to appreciate the sun more. I wish you enough happiness to keep your spirit alive…I wish you enough 'Hellos' to get you through the final 'Good-bye…

【推荐2】As I was busy working on my work plan in my bedroom, I could hear my four children playing upstairs. Suddenly, I heard the children running down the stairs and shouting, "Freddie, Freddie." I heard the word "window" and rushed outside, heart in mouth. My three﹣year old son Freddie was lying on his side on the ground. I cried for my husband Simon to dial 999 and within minutes the air ambulance arrived. They quickly took him in the helicopter (直升机). During the flight, Freddie was looking at me and I remembered thinking was a good sign, but then his eyes began to roll. As the doctors tried to stabilize (稳定) him, I couldn't believe what was happening.
When we arrived at the hospital in Portsmouth, there were some doctors and nurses waiting for us and they immediately set to work on Freddie. I was hopelessly wishing everything would be alright, but Freddie had broken his skull in two places and blood clots were forming in his brain. He needed operation, and only a doctor at another hospital in
Bristol could do it. This meant another helicopter ride, but we couldn't go with Freddie because there was no enough space. Simon and I drove the long 130 miles from our home in north Devon in silence. Neither of us dared say what we were thinking, "What if we get there and he's dead?" "Is he going to be brain-damaged?"
Freddie was just coming out of operation when we arrived. The surgeon said it had gone well. When I finally saw him, I hardly recognize my child-he was covered in tubes (管子) and there were wires coming out of his head.
On the third day, Simon went home to see our three girls and to pick up some clean clothes for us. While he was gone, the pressure in Freddie's brain suddenly increased. He was taken into operation room again and this time I fell apart. Luckily, the operation managed to stabilize Freddie. After almost a week, Freddie was finally woken up. When he opened his eyes, he looked at me. He didn't say anything, but I knew straight away that it was my old Freddie, and that he was going to be alright. Over the next two weeks, his recovery went well. After help with learning to swallow again and encouragement with speaking, he was soon playing with his Gruffalo cards and eating meals by himself.
I still don't know how the accident happened, but we got some idea from our girls. Clearly Freddie and Minnie had been sitting on the window ledge, and Freddie must have opened it to look out and fallen 20 feet onto the ground below.
The guilt (内疚) I feel is awful-for weeks I was full of "if onlys", and we put window locks everywhere. Six months later, although the accident seems a lifetime ago, it has changed me. I feel differently about life now. I've left my job to put my children first. I want to spend every minute with them.

The event was swimming and started with only three men on the blocks. For one reason or another, two of them false started, so they were disqualified. That left only one to compete. It would have been difficult enough, not having anyone to race against, even though the time on the clock is important.
I watched the man dive off the block and knew right away that something was wrong. I’m not an expert swimmer, but I can tell a good dive from a poor one, and this was not exactly medal quality. When he resurfaced, it was evident that the man was not out for gold – his arms were waving in an attempt at freestyle. The crowd started to laugh. Clearly this man was not a medal competitor.
I listened to the crowd begin to laugh at this poor man who was clearly having a hard time. Finally he made his turn to start back. It was pitiful. He made a few desperate strokes and you could tell he was worn out.
But in those few awful strokes, the crowd had changed.
No longer were they laughing, but beginning to cheer. Some even began to stand and shout “Come on, you can do it!” and he did.
A clear minute past the average swimmer, this young man finally finished his race. The crowd went wild. You would have thought that he had won the gold, and he should have. Even though he recorded one of the slowest times in Olympic history, this man gave more heart than any of the other competitors.
Just a short year ago, he had never even swum, let alone race. His country had been invited to Sydney.
In a competition where athletes remove their silver medals feeling they have somehow been cheated out of gold, or when they act so proudly in front of their competitors ,

C.it’s cheerful for athletes to act proudly before their competitors |
D.it’s brave enough for some athletes to remove the silver medals |
A.The event started with three men, two of whom were disqualified later. |
B.The crowd started to laugh at the athlete’s arms waving in an attempt at freestyle. |
C.The athlete, as well as the author, is an expert swimmer. |
D.The swimming event is a show of courage rather than a fierce competition. |
A.Compete for Gold! | B.Try again! |
C.Break a Record! | D.Go for it! |
