In August I spent two weeks working at the Sauraha day care center. I found working with the children very rewarding, as I believed I was making a     1    (differ) to the children’s lives and future. A concert featuring the musical instruments of various Chinese ethnic groups was staged at Minhang Culture Park on Friday evening. As you walk into the Shandong Arts and Crafts Exhibition Center, you are greeted by a magnificent sight: a larger-than-life rabbit. His winning top prize at the competition encouraged him to quit his job     8     a designer and devote himself to making statues of the rabbit god. Yang said, “For me, crafting the rabbit is not just a job,     9     a lifelong career that I will stick with. I hope my creations can remind tourists of the old and happy times. What is even     10    (important), they can get to know Jinan’s history and culture and fall in love with the city.”

Xiao Han and He Ting, are now full-time artists and they run their own studios. They graduated from Shanghai Normal University     1     they majored in traditional Chinese painting,     2     unique ancient art form, which is created by using ink and water-based colors on materials such as paper or silk.

Xiao     3     (use) to creating paintings on round silk fans. His creative     4     (inspire) comes from the pure and simple life of people in the Southern Song Dynasty, “That is the very ideal painting and life style in a busy world     5     I dream of,” says Xiao, who set up a home studio in Shanghai     6     a window allowing him to enjoy the sunrise.

Despite drawing people and life, He Ting, from the coastal city of Xiangshan in Zhejiang Province, decorates the folding fans     7    (feature) paintings that are focused on landscapes. And he loves the views of Jiangnan water towns, which can bring people much     8     (warm).

“We are lucky to be living in a time when the government supports the culture industry     9     (complete). Now the revival(复兴) of traditional Chinese culture     10     (promote) in the whole country. And I believe that artists will get more chances to spread the culture both at home and abroad,” says He Ting.

Paper-cutting artist Rich McCor creates small silhouetted (显出轮廓的)     1     (shape) and brings them to life by holding them against European monuments. He positions simply cut-outs at the perfect angle,     2     (make) it appear as though buildings, statues, and fountains are     3     (direct) interacting with his work. McCor then takes a photo     4     (document) the unusual scene.

The playful project     5     (start) when McCor decided to be     6     tourist in his own city—London. He wanted to explore the landmarks and history he had previously ignored, so he began researching for interesting facts and brainstorming     7     to photograph the place in an     8     (origin) way. McCor’s first photo transformed the Big Ben Tower into a wrist watch. While he was there, his work was appreciated by others nearby,     9     encouraged him to build on the idea.

Since he took his first photograph, McCor has applied the same playful treatment     10     many sites in London. And thanks to a commission (委托) from Lonely Planet, he’s created similar cut-outs for monuments in Stockholm. Amsterdam, Copenhagen, and Paris, introducing each image with random facts about the respective landmark.
