Jobs at Apple

Amaze Yourself, Amaze the World

A job at Apple is unlike any other you've had. You'll be challenged. You'll be inspired. And you'll be proud. Because whatever your job is here, youll be part of something big.

Every detail matters.

Every piece of packaging. Every swipe of the finger. Every "How can I help you?” Everything. And it doesnt matter just some of the time. It matters all of the time. That's how we do things at Apple. The result is some of the best-loved products in the world.

Simplicity isn't simple.

Ask anyone here. It's hard work. It means forever asking, “Why is it this way?” and “How can it be better?” It means rethinking every customer experience until the clutter has fallen away — until all that remains is what's essential, useful and beautiful. That might be a new product feature that delights even die-hard fans. It might be a customer support call, or even a display in an Apple store, arranged and lit exactly so.

Creativity from every comer.

When you imagine the creative process at Apple, at first you may not picture someone in HR. Or operations. Or finance. But we expect creative thinking and solutions from everyone here, no matter what their responsibilities are. Innovation takes many forms, and our people seem to find new ones every day.

文章大意:本文为一篇说明文。作者通过举例“太空营销”这一设想,引出我们的生活中充满着大量广告的事实,同时介绍了生活中的各种广告形式。

【推荐1】A few years ago, a company called Space Marketing came up with a plan to send a mile–long advertisement into space. To advertising agencies (机构), it would have been “a dream come true”. However, advertising standards agencies finally decided not to allow Space Marketing to go ahead with their plans and they were forced to give them up.

Space may indeed be the final place for advertisers, because on Earth we are already surrounded by advertising wherever we are and whatever we are doing. Apart from the obvious adverts that we see every day on TV, and in newspapers and magazines, there is a whole “other world” of advertising messages for our attention. There are ads that we see on the side of the bus we catch to work, for example. And what about the logos (商标) we see on the clothing of the people we walk past in the streets?

Most of the time, we are probably not even aware of (意识到的) these less obvious advertising methods, but that doesn’t mean that they don’t work. Take “product placement”, for example. You are in a cinema, watching the latest Hollywood movie. Look carefully at the make of car your favorite actor is driving. And what about his watch? Can you see what brand it is? Chances are, you can, and the company that owns the brand is likely to have paid thousands for it to appear in the film.

So, whether Space Marketing finally succeeds in sending ads into space or not is perhaps less important than it might seem. This would not change a thing. Our everyday lives are already strongly influenced by advertising whether we realize it or not.

1. What happened to the plan of sending an ad into space?
A.It came to nothing.
B.It was a dream come true.
C.It had to wait a few years before it was carried out.
D.It was supported by the advertising standards agencies.
2. How does the author explain the “other world” of advertising messages?
A.By showing research findings.
B.By explaining research findings.
C.By giving instructions.
D.By using examples.
3. As a form of advertising, product placement ________.
A.costs a little
B.doesn’t work
C.is less obvious than TV ads
D.mainly appears in Hollywood movies
4. What does the author suggest at the end of the text?
A.We live in a world of advertising.
B.We’ve changed a lot because of advertising.
C.Space Marketing leads in the advertising industry.
D.Space ads will mark the beginning of a new world.

【推荐2】Sports account for a growing amount of income made on the sales of commercial time by television companies. Many television companies have used sports to attract viewers from particular sections of the general public, and then they have sold audiences to advertisers.

An attraction of sport programs for the major US media companies is that events are often held on Saturday and Sunday afternoons—the slowest time periods of the week for general television viewing. Sport events are the most popular weekend programs, especially among male viewers who may not watch much television at other times during the week. This means the television networks are able to sell advertising time at relatively high prices during what normally would be dead time for programming.

Media corporations also use sports to attract commercial sponsors that might take their advertising dollars elsewhere if television stations did not report certain sports. The people in the advertising departments of major corporations realize that sports attract male viewers. They also realize that most business travelers are men and that many men make family decisions on the purchases of computers, cars and life insurance.

Golf and tennis are special cases for television programming. These sports attract few viewers, and the ratings are unusually low. However, the audience for these sports is attractive to certain advertisers. It is made up of people from the highest income groups in the United States, including many lawyers and business managers. This is why television reporting of golf and tennis is sponsored by companies selling high-priced cars, business and personal computers, and holiday trips. This is also why the networks continue to carry these programs regardless of low ratings. Advertisers are willing to pay high fees to reach high-income consumers and those managers who make decisions to buy thousands of “company cars” and computers, with such viewers, these programs don ’t need high ratings to stay on the air.

1. What do we know about sport programs in the US?
A.They are only broadcast during weekends.
B.They struggle to attract female viewers.
C.They bring more money to the television networks.
D.They make weekends dead time for programming.
2. In many families, men usually make decisions on ______.
A.travel destinationsB.grocery shopping
C.family sports budgetD.expensive purchases
3. Why aren ’t the ratings important for golf and tennis programs?
A.These programs don ’t make money from advertisements.
B.These programs are sponsored to attract rich people.
C.These programs charge viewers high channel fees.
D.These programs aim at increasing the popularity of the sports.
4. What is the passage mainly about?
A.Male viewers dominate the TV audience.
B.Rich viewers contribute most to television companies.
C.Sports are gaining importance in advertising on television.
D.Commercial advertisers are the major sponsors of sport events.
