No matter what you’re interested in Atlanta has museums for you. Here are museums you can’t miss on a trip to Atlanta.

Michael C. Carlos Museum at Emory University

You don’t need to travel the world to find art from ancient Egypt, Greece, Rome, Africa, Asia, the Americas and the Near East. Fancy collections are housed here, located on the quadrangle (四方院子)of Emory University’s campus. It’s one of the premier ancient art museums in the Southeast.

Visiting Tip: Download a podcast discussing how to view the collections in unusual ways. Free admission.

Atlanta History Center

Start with native peoples who lived in what is now Georgia. Move into the Civil War era and see where Margaret Mitchell wrote her masterpiece, Gone With the Wind, or learn about Civil Rights hero Dr. Martin Luther King. Here you’ll explore the city’s origins and its accomplishments and tragedies.

Visiting Tip: The restored Atlanta Cyclorama, a painting of the Battle of Atlanta, re-opens in February 2019.

Center for Civil and Human Rights

From the American civil rights movements to what’s happening around the world today, it tells stories and inspires action. Visitors can see Dr. Martin Luther King’s personal papers and other items, while interactive displays help them understand what it was like to be a Freedom Rider. Despite the tragedies, the museum offers hope for a brighter future.

Visiting Tip: Record your own civil rights story. The staff will show them on the center’s walls.

Wonderland Museum of Atlanta

A visit to the museum is child’s play. Kids from 10 months to 8 years old won’t even realize they’re learning while they play in interactive zones. Education is disguised (伪装)as fun in this inviting museum, where children can pop into programs about music and movement, science, and more.

Visiting Tip: Let little Picassos create masterpieces on the Paint Wall in the Arts Studio. The price is not included in your admission ticket.
