Disney’s live-action remake of Mulan tells the story of a young Chinese woman, Hua Mulan (Yifei Liu), who disguises herself as a man and takes her father’s place in the army. The new movie is a more realistic take than the previous 1998 animated film-causing it to receive the first PG-13 rating given to a Disney live-action reboot. The movie won’t be released in theaters until March 27, but critics got a first look at the film Monday night at the Hollywood premiere and took to social media to post their initial reactions.
The responses from journalists are relatively positive so far. Slash Film’s Peter Scretta tweeted on Monday, “It’s so majestic, the action is thrilling, it aims for a level of sophistication (复杂) and beauty you don’t expect.” “Mulan is exciting, vibrant, emotional, and different from the animated version,” Fandango’s Erk Davis tweeted. “It’s definitely its own thing, which I dug-a more mature Disney film, featuring stunning production design and fight choreography (战斗编排). Director Niki Caro and star Liu Yifei are the big stand-outs.” Mashable’s Alison Foreman wrote, “Disney’s Mulan remake leaves a lot behind, but offers much more in its absence. Plenty of 1998 throwbacks pepper a story full of incredible action, humor, and heart.”
Not all the reviews were positive. Screen Rant’s Mansoor Mithaiwala tweeted, “There’s a great film yearning to break out in Mulan, but it’s surprisingly stuck by adapting the animation. It has its moments, but the poor villains and inconsistent action quality results in an ordinary movie.”

The heroine in question is Meilin — or Mei — (Rosalie Chiang), a hard-working student who transforms into a huge, shaggy red panda whenever she is stressed. Turning Red appears to be drawn from the experiences of its writer-director, Domee Shi — except, presumably, for the bit about swelling up into a giant, furry animal.
Released internationally on 11 July.
The Batman
Robert Pattinson channels his inner bat in this latest reboot. Matt Reeves, who co-wrote and directed, told Empire he sees his version of the crime-fighter as a recluse inspired by Kurt Cobain. Pattinson has the right brooding game for this, portraying a hero who is only in his second year of saving Gotham, still finding his way as he takes on the ruthless Riddler (Paul Dano).
Released, internationally on 4 March
Avatar 2
The new film returns to the planet of Pandora; where blue-skinned Neytiri (Zoet Saldana) and her human husband Jake (Sam Worthington) are now parents, and Earthling is still haven’t solved the climate crisis. Most of the action took place underwater and was shot in a 900,000-gallon tank. The Avatar sequels have been in the works for a decade, but Cameron’s water-logged hits, Titanic and The Abyss, also arrived behind schedule, and it all turned out just fine.
Released internationally on 27 May.
Top Gun: Maverick
It was back in 1986 that Cruise last played Pete “Maverick” Mitchell, a trainee fighter pilot in the US Navy. Can anyone really believe that all these years later, Maverick would only be a captain while his old frenemy “Iceman” (Val Kilmer) would be a four-star general? Maybe not, but it should be fun to see Cruise in his Aviator shades and bomber jacket once again, alongside such new recruits to the series as Jennifer Connelly, Jon Hamm, Ed Harris and Miles Teller.
Released internationally on 16 December.

Mary Santiago has that secret dream, too. Her story is featured in Another Cinderella Story, a film set in a US high school.
Mary is shy but loves to dance. Compared with other girls, she is invisible. However, her world changes completely when a famous teenager pop singer, Joey Parker, appears.
Joey is everything the rest of the boys in her class are not—kind, handsome and desirable. Mary and Joey’s paths cross at a ball. They meet and fall in love with each other. But when Mary has to rush back home, she leaves behind her MP3 player, which becomes the only clue Joey has to find the girl of his dreams. Of course, there is a wicked stepmother, who turns out to be Dominique Blatt and she takes in Mary after her dancer mother dies. Dominique treats Mary like a maid and does everything she can to make sure Mary doesn’t get into the top dance school. Her two daughters are equally determined to stop Joey falling for Mary, even if that means embarrassing her.
The story, though it mostly follows Cinderella, does add a few modern day twists to the classic fairy tale. Refreshingly, the film, unlike many high school films, does not focus on looks, although the actors are all beautiful. There is also a lot less materialism in Another Cinderella Story than in many similar movies.
“The movie takes the Cinderella fairytale as its jumping off point,” writes movie critic Amber Wilkinson. “Yet the focus is firmly on following your dream.”

According to a newspaper, “The Pillars of Hercules”, which is inspired by Elton’s middle name Hercules, will cover events set in the 70s, including never-before-seen backstage footage of the singer and the late Beatles legend John Lennon.
Elton's long-time guitarist Davey Johnstone has been working on the documentary for years and is now hoping to do a deal with Netflix. A source told the newspaper: “The documentary features stories within the Elton John Band which weren't shown in the previous film. Davey has got the approval from Elton.” Davey previously put the documentary on hold for six years to avoid it clashing with both the movie and Elton’s concert tour.
He told the “Greatest Music of All Time” podcast, “It was entirely right that I should do that as I did not want to get in the way of those projects. I had a lovely conversation with Elton the other day in which he was really happy that I was going ahead and doing it again. Quite honestly I would never do anything, especially of a documentary nature, about anything we did without them being OK with it. So with this documentary we are painstakingly making the final decision right now because of putting together all the last things we need. There are two more interviews we are looking to get and we will probably be finished with all the recording by late January and then we will go into editing and we will be ready about Easter.”

Although protecting wildlife may seem too hard at times, even small actions in your own neighborhood can help protect many different animals. Here are some tips on how to protect wildlife through small actions. Create wildlifefriendly areas in your backyard.
When trying to make your garden more beautiful, you can choose plants that can provide food and shelter for the native wildlife. This will also help cut down on pollution. Besides, bird or bat houses in your yard or garden can attract and shelter more species.
Avoid harming the natural ecosystem (生态系统) in your backyard.
Some plants from other places can kill or harm the native plants that provide food and shelter for wildlife.
Have a greener lifestyle.
By using less water and fewer fuels, you will do good to help protect the wildlife around you. Take buses or the subway if you can, turn off the electric devices when you’re not using them, take showers for a shorter time, and keep the temperature in your room at or below 68 Fahrenheit degrees in winter.
Buy products that are friendly to wildlife.
Don’t buy products that are made from endangered animals. Keep in mind that some endangered animals are killed by traps, or hunters who are eager to earn money with them.

The encouragement to donate again begins shortly after the donor leaves the clinic when he/she receives a "thank you" text. Though that certainly helps them feel appreciated, what is even more pleasing is the text they receive each time their blood is used to help someone in need.
Karolina Wiberg, manager of the Stockholm blood service, believes this small gesture not only results in repeat donors, but helps bring in new ones. The program that was started in Stockholm has received such positive feedback that it is now being rolled out across the country.
However, Swedish officials are not stopping there. They are also encouraging local clinics to publish the exact levels of the different blood groups they have at any given time on their websites. This allows potential donors to realize that their blood can make a difference in saving someone ' s life.
While all these outreach programs are great, busy citizens, even the ones with the best intentions have to be occasionally reminded. In order to jog their memories, officials ask people for authorization to send them text, Facebook, and e-mail reminders. Though that may sound disturbing, the citizens do not seem to mind, given that the messages are light-hearted and fun-things like "We won't give up until you bleed."
Though Sweden is currently the only country using modern technology to urge more donations, don't be surprised if more join in, especially if the Nordic (北欧) country's blood banks start to overflow!

According to research from the National Pen Company in the U.S., your handwriting can give away clues about 5,000 different personality traits based on the way you space your letters and how you sign your name. A closer look at someone’s handwriting style can provide you surprising insights about their character and personality, enabling you to come off like a proper Sherlock.
According to the results, the size of someone’s handwriting can determine the type of personality they have. People with small handwriting tend to be shy, bookish and very careful. Tiny letters indicate the writer has somewhat low self esteem but is intelligent, whereas outgoing people who love attention will have larger handwriting. Moving onto the spacing of words, people who leave large gaps between words enjoy their freedom, while people who write words close together can’t stand to be alone.
If handwriting leans to the right, the person is open to new experiences and enjoy meeting new people. If it is to the left, that person tends to keep themselves to themselves. People whose handwriting doesn’t lean in either direction are logical and practical.
The results also claim that a person’s health can be identified from their handwriting, for example, people with high blood pressure tend to have writing that is sometimes heavy and dark, and at other times light.
The process of analyzing handwriting is called graphology( 笔迹学). It is classed as a pseudoscience (伪科学) because there are debates about how accurate it can be at determining psychological and even physical features.
