Flying the friendly skies has been, well, not quite as friendly these days. If you’re looking not just for the best prices, most convenient times and most direct routes, but also for an airline that will treat you right, you’ll want to check these latest rankings.
We got our hands on the 2017 Airline Satisfaction Study, released this month, from J.D.Power North America, a global research firm. Here’s what they discovered about the best airlines.
Alaska Airlines take home the top honor for the 10th time. Flying anywhere and Alaska Airlines is an option? Jump on that deal! Why? For the past decade, they’ve ranked the highest among traditional carriers, with the score of 765 on a 1, 000-- point scale. Delta took home the silver but only with a seven-- point gap from its competitor Alaska Airlines. American Airlines came in for the bronze.
For budget airlines, Southwest is second to none. Since the research was divided into parts, Southwest got an honor of its own in the “low﹣cost carrier” part, defeating Jet Blue Airways by four points. This small margin (差额) is significant, since Southwest officially ends Jet Blue Airways’ winning this category constantly for 11 years.
The full list of the top 10 airlines, either in traditional carriers or the budget ones are below:
Best traditional airlines: • Alaska Airlines • Delta Airlines • American Airlines • United Airlines • Air Canada | Best low-cost airlines: •Southwest Airlines • JetBlue Airways • United Airlines • WestJet • Frontier Airlines |

The 643-kilometer line is China’s first high-speed railway to run through the Qinling Mountains, which form a natural boundary (分界线) between China’s north and south. With a speed of 250 km per hour, it’s also the first mountain-heavy train line to provide a 4G network. Along the way, the train passes through two areas for rare (稀有) wild animals — one for pandas and the other for crested ibises (朱鹮).
To reduce the railway’s influence on the animals, workers and experts have designed and built the railway to be environmentally friendly. There were 345 wild pandas living in the Qinling Mountains. China currently has 1,864 wild pandas in total, according to the Xinhua News Agency.
To avoid disturbing the pandas, the railway was designed to run through tunnels (隧道) within the area. Protective shields (防护屏) are placed near the entrance of each tunnel to stop animals from going in.
To protect the thousands of crested ibises that fly near one part of the railway, protective nets have been set up to make sure the birds will not fly into a train.
The nets are about 32 km long and 4 meters high. Experts tested different shapes and materials for building the nets before making their final choice.

If you don’t have a bike, you can easily get a very nice one from Craigslist, Ebay, or the local paper. You can also rent one from a local bike shop or bike-sharing sites like Spinlister. But if you have a little money to spend or special needs, you can go so far as to get a bamboo comfort cycle or solar-charged battery to get you up the hills without breaking a sweat. The electric bikes make bicycling accessible to more people than ever.
When the weather isn’t too hot, it might be a good idea to take the bicycle for a ride as often as you can. Inactivity-related diseases are the number one killer in the United States. But by adding just 30 minutes of exercise to our day by bicycle, we can save an average of $544 per person per year in health costs.
Increasingly, cities are adding more and more bike lanes, and there are now bike paths in most suburban areas as well. If you live somewhere where you can go to work by bicycle, on top of the health savings, you will save tons of money on gas, parking and car repairing. And as an added benefit, bicyclists also save time during rush hour when they can actually out-pace cars in city areas according to at least one study.
Traveling by bikes also allows you to see the world in a different way. Biking is slower, and you can wave“hello”to a neighbor or halt whenever you want to look around at new things and explore. These days, slowing down and getting relaxed may be the most important benefits of all.

Chocolate
Chocolate is packed with sugar, which can have a serious impact on how well you sleep. A study found that people who ate more sugar and saturated fats(饱和脂肪)experienced less deep sleep and woke up more throughout the night. Chocolate also contains some caffeine, which can stimulate the nervous system and keep you awake for hours.
Hamburger
According to Health, the problem with hamburgers is their high amount of fat content. More fat means more acid production in the stomach, which means more heartburn due to acid reflux(反流)—a no-no before bed.
Broccoli
These vegetables are high in soluble fiber(可溶性纤维), which is great for digestion during the day but can leave the body focused on digestion as opposed to sleep at night. This can cause discomfort or trouble sleeping.
Spicy foods
Spicy foods like chili also contribute to heartburn. If someone experiences acid reflux from spicy foods and lies down right after eating spicy foods, the acids from the stomach can flow back into the esophagus(食道)more easily, causing a burning sensation in the chest, which may disturb sleep.
1. Which of the following will cause excitement?A.Chocolate. | B.Hamburger. | C.Broccoli. | D.Chili. |
A.Broccoli can cause acid reflux. | B.Broccoli does good to digestion. |
C.Broccoli disturbs sleep due to heartburn. | D.Broccoli contributes to sound sleep at night. |
A.Lie down to rest immediately. |
B.Eat hamburgers to reduce acid reflux. |
C.Walk for a while to avoid acid flowing back. |
D.Play with the mobile phone in bed to distract the attention. |
