I grew up in a large family of twelve siblings(兄弟姐妹).We weren’t poor by most standards, but things were definitely tight for us. My parents never shared their financial worries. Instead, they chose to let us have a carefree childhood. But despite their consideration, I knew, as children often do, that there were times they went without and that certain things my friends had wouldn’t be available to me.
Back in those days, hot lunch was a luxury for the wealthier kids, and hot-lunch buyers sat separately from the students who brought cold lunch. My siblings and I brought lunch from home every day: thick slices of homemade bread hiding one scant slice of bologna, three oatmeal cookies, and a small apple. We would look on longingly as the rich kids proudly sat down with their steaming plates of fried chicken or fish sticks and potato puffs, cartons of cold milk, chilled peaches and a slice of cake.
I never said anything, but my first grade teacher, Mrs. Caruso, must have seen the desire in my eyes. One day she quietly pressed a note into my hand and whispered, “Give this to your mother.”
I skipped home and gave my mom the note. She read it and smiled. “Well, Mrs. Caruso said because of all your hard work, she wants to buy your lunch tomorrow.” The next day, I proudly carried my tray of chicken fricassee across the cafeteria and took my seat at the hot-lunch table. Honestly, the food wasn’t as great as I had imagined, but I was pleased to be there and felt honored to be a part of the group.
One rainy day, Mrs. Caruso asked me to stay after school. My stomach instantly dropped to the floor. Surely, I must be in trouble! Did she know I hadn't finished my math sheet? Did she see me teasing Billy on the playground?

Of all the people in Lily’s life, one in particular stands out. As Lily thinks of Shanda, a smile spreads across her face. She feels loved and grateful more than ever that she has such a teacher and friend. Thanks to Shanda’s presence, Lily has become a good dancer now.
Eleven years of dance and going on twelve that year, she thought it would end up like any other year. She would never win any prize in the dance contest. She might be stuck in any empty spot and didn’t know what to do with her next dance move. But little did she know that year would change her completely.
That year, Lily felt lucky that Shanda would choreograph (编舞) for her dance. Lily expected to work with Shanda, a young talented dancer, to have an okay dance, but she never expected she would have such an impressive influence on her way to dance.
The moment Lily walked into the marble floored, wall-to-wall mirrored rooms, she already felt like Shanda had faith in her. Shanda smiled at her with appreciative eyes. In the following days, Shanda always encouraged her, “Work to the best of your ability and keep going.” When she wanted to give up, Shanda told her that the real importance of dance was to love it.
Through their hard work and devotion, not only did Lily’s ability to dance grow, but also their friendship grew. Shanda became more than a teacher to Lily. She was also a close friend that Lily could turn to for anything. Shanda gave her encouragement and was always there to cheer Lily up when she felt down.
As the year quickly came to an end, it was high time for Lily to show her dance to the audience. As she walked to the backstage filled with other dancers warming up and expecting their performance, she prayed for a good performance that would convey her improvement. The rhythmic music before her rang in her cars. She waited anxiously for her turn. Finally, after what seemed like days, the hostess announced “Lily”.

In the thriving city of Chengdu, a group of high school seniors were preparing for the biggest milestone of their academic journey: the college entrance examination. Among them was a young student named Liang Mei. Liang Mei was known for her exceptional academic performance, but as the exam drew near, she found herself overcome with anxiety.
Liang Mei’s worries weren’t just about the exam itself; she was also struggling with the fear of losing touch with her closest friends and the uncertainty of what the future would hold. The once carefree and joyful atmosphere among her classmates had been replaced by stress and tension. Liang Mei felt isolated in her concerns, as everyone seemed consumed by their own worries and study schedules.
One day, after a particularly difficult practice exam, Liang Mei trusted in her favorite teacher, Mr. Zhang. Mr. Zhang was not only a knowledgeable instructor but also a compassionate mentor who had always been there for his students. He listened attentively as Liang Mei shared her fears and concerns about the upcoming exam and the future.
Understanding the importance of addressing the emotional well-being of his students, Mr. Zhang decided to take action. He organized a group discussion session during one of the study breaks, inviting all the senior students to participate. The session provided a safe space for the students to express their anxieties, share their feelings, and offer support to one another.
During the session, Liang Mei found relief in hearing her classmates voice similar concerns. They realized that they were not alone in their fears and that their shared experiences could be a source of strength. They discussed strategies for managing stress and ways to maintain their friendships even after graduation.
Mr. Zhang also encouraged the students to focus on their personal growth and the valuable lessons they had been learning during their time in high school, rather than solely fixating (专注) on the exam results. He reminded them that their worth was not defined by their test scores but by their character, perseverance, and the relationships they had cultivated.

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________Ten years ago, I worked as a teacher in a kindergarten in a community. We had just read stories about heroes, and I had assigned my students to write an article or draw a picture about hero in their hearts. Everyone was sparing no efforts to create works such as scientists, firemen and astronauts. Some children had chosen to draw their family members, such as, their mothers or fathers.
Nevertheless, there was a boy in my class who had trouble with the task. Carl had touched my heart early in the school year. He had dark brown hair and wore his thick glasses. He looks like a younger version of Harry Pouter at best. . He often snorted (鼻息声) when he laughed, and the rest of the class would laugh along with him. Carl suffered from autism (自闭症), but that didn’t matter to me or his classmates. We all loved him just the way he was. He was full of wonderful stories and brought a special feeling to our classroom. I sat and watched as Daniel worked with Carl. Daniel had a wonderful way of interacting with Carl and he helped him find his hero. Within a few minutes, Carl quickly began drawing blue lines and curves on his paper — he was particularly fond of the color blue.
Finally, it was time for everybody to share their hero pictures. I listened as each student proudly stood in front of the class, picture held high, and described his or her hero. Several students described their heroes by giving them superhuman strength. It was finally Carl’s turn to share his hero. Carl stood up and anxiously placed his large blue stick-figured drawing in front of his face. He then quickly burst out that it was a picture of me. He added that I helped him learn things and then quickly sat back down. Tears began to form in the corner of my eyes, but nothing could have prepared me for what happened next.

On a rainy summer morning, Sarah found herself hurrying to catch a flight from New York to London for an important business meeting. However, unexpected traffic delayed her arrival at the airport, leaving her with mere minutes to spare before boarding.
Desperate to catch her flight, Sarah approached the first taxi in line. “Heathrow Airport, Terminal 5, please,” she claimed as she jumped into the back seat. The driver, a middle-aged man named David, nodded and pulled away. As they sped through the streets, Sarah couldn’t shake off her nerves. “Are we going to make it in time?” she asked anxiously. David took a quick look at her through the rearview mirror (后视镜) with a smile. “Don’t worry, Ma’am. I know a shortcut that should get us there just in time,” he replied calmly. Despite David’s assurances, Sarah couldn’t help but feel a knot of worry tighten in her stomach. She had to catch this flight. The success of the entire project depended on her presence at the meeting.
Arriving at the airport, David drove expertly through the chaotic drop-off area and stopped right in front of the departure gate for Terminal 5.“We’re here,” he announced with pride. Relieved but in a rush, Sarah took out her wallet and paid the fare. But then she had some difficulty unfastening the seat-belt. It was stuck. Panic began to rise within Sarah. She couldn’t afford to waste an extra minute. She pressed the button and dragged the belt again and again, but it didn’t work. Just as Sarah was about to lose her temper, the taxi driver David realized what was happening. He quickly got off the car and helped Sarah unfasten the belt. “I’m so sorry,” David apologized with embarrassment. Sarah swiftly got off the taxi and hurriedly ran towards the terminal.

__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________On a snowy day Steve sat down on the usual seat in the Union Square. Every Thanksgiving for nine years he had sat down there at one in the afternoon. Every time, a wonderful thing happened to him, which made his heart feel full of joy.
On those other Thanksgiving Days, Steve usually had been hungry. But today Steve was not hungry. He had come from a dinner so big that he had almost no power to move. His body had suddenly become too big for his clothes; it seemed ready to break out of them. They were torn. You could see his skin through a hole in the front of his shirt. But the cold wind, with snow in it, felt pleasantly cool to him.
The dinner had not been expected. He had been passing a large house near the beginning of that great broad street called Fifth Avenue, where lived two ladies of an old family who had a deep love of tradition that on Thanksgiving Day food will be offered to the first hungry person to walk by. Today Steve happened to be the one to pass by on his way to the park.
Steve sat in the park, appearing to be waiting for somebody, but appearing not to expect something to happen. Suddenly his eyes grew wider and his breath stopped. For the old gentleman was coming across Fourth Avenue toward Steve’s seat.
Every Thanksgiving Day for nine years the old gentleman had come there to find Steve on his seat. Then he had led Steve to a restaurant and watched him eat a big dinner, which had been a part of Thanksgiving Day. The old gentleman was thin and tall and sixty. His hair was whiter and thinner than it had been last year. His legs shook, seeming not as strong as they were the year before.

And she was often regarded as the best worker there. Recently, she became the supervisor (主管) of the restaurant. She was kind and friendly to all the workers and the customers.
One morning, Amy was taking orders when she heard a conversation. “What you did there was great, Mason! It was hard to carry the old lady safely out of the fire. For a moment, I thought you couldn’t make it, my friend,” one man said. Then the other man replied, “Yeah, it was difficult, but that’s our job. And you were the hero today, Gordon. You carried that girl on your shoulder and her dog in your hand. It’s going to be on the newspapers tomorrow, I’m telling you.”
From their clothing and conversation, Amy knew they were firefighters. And she quickly realized that they were talking about the previous night’s fire at the old hotel on the other end of the road. Then the man named Gordon continued, “I don’t care about being in the papers. The little girl and her dog reminded me of my own daughter. She’s constantly asking for a dog, too.”
Amy was moved by the courage and sincerity of the two men. She wanted to show her appreciation for their selfless service. “How about helping pay for their meal?” she thought.
However, she wasn’t a rich girl at all. Weeks ago, her father had an accident and broke his legs. The operation cost a lot of money. And now he needed a wheelchair (轮椅) to move around so that he could live an easier life. But her family was poor and a good wheelchair wasn’t cheap. Amy was trying hard to save money for a wheelchair for her father. And she still needed a lot of money. “Well, the firefighters’ meal won’t cost too much,” Amy finally thought.
Paragraph 1:Then she went to the cashier (收银员) and secretly paid for their meal.

The next day, the firefighters began raising (募捐) money for a wheelchair for Amy’s father.
