The Most Beautiful Beaches in Tulum
With a colorful arts scene and many wonderful restaurants, Tulum is one of the best travel destinations in Mexico, especially this town’s Caribbean coastline. Here’s our summary of the most beautiful beaches in Tulum.
Playa Ruinas
Playa Ruinas is home to well-preserved Mayan ruins overlooking the Caribbean Sea. The beach has whites and, blue waters and a site of historical importance. The top of Castillo was built as a watchtower in the 13th century and is now the third most visited archaeological site in Mexico after Teotihuacán and Chichén Itzá.
Playa Paraíso
Playa Paraíso is another beautiful spot in Tulum. The sand, surrounded by palm trees, is a popular place for volleyball lovers—and it’s large enough to ensure that it’s never overcrowding. There are also plenty of restaurants where you can enjoy lots of food, plus boats offering diving journeys in the warm sea.
Las Palmas
Las Palmas owns peaceful sand and gentle blue waves, more peaceful than Playa Paraíso. You won’t find dealers or restaurants in the area. Although this may be less convenient, it also means Las Palmas is the perfect place if you’re looking to get away from the crowded beaches.
Akumal Beach
Driving a car for less than 30 minutes from central Tulum, Akumal Beach is great for family outings and diving. Clearly busier than the peaceful beaches around Tulum, Akumal is near many bars and restaurants. Beach umbrellas are available to rent, and delicious food and ice-cold beers are on offer all day long.

Visit an “abandoned” Tube station underworld and discover what secrets are hidden beneath our busy streets in our new Hidden London exhibition at London Transport Museum!
Hidden London: the Exhibition takes you on a journey of some of London’s most secret spaces in the world’s oldest underground system. These “forgotten” parts of the Tube network have incredible stories to tell about Britain’s wartime past.
You can enjoy the largest number of rare photos and objects from disused stations that have been brought together in one location.
Discover stories about how Churchill took shelter at the height of the Blitz deep underground at Down Street station. See how shelterers lived down at Clapham South station, where they slept and how they kept entertained.
You can also explore other locations that we have recreated in our Global Gallery, including the historic abandoned ticket hall at Aldwych station with an original 1930s ticket office.
The exhibition uncovers why these “lost” parts of the underground network exist. Changes in population, economic priorities and political pressures have all led to spaces being abandoned. But they rarely stay that way. While some sections of the Tube system lie “forgotten”, many have been repurposed for new activities and are used for special Hidden London tours, growing salad leaves, and for filming locations, including Charing Cross, which featured in Skyfall (2012).

That really happened. In January 2009, I had a front-row seat on Flight 1549, the plane that crash-landed in the Hudson River in New York.
Now let me tell you the three things I learned when the silence came.
First, I thought about all the people I wanted to reach out to but didn’t. I thought about all the experiences I wanted to have but never did. I no longer wanted to put off anything in life. Second, I really regretted the time I wasted on things that did not matter. I decided to remove negative energy from my life. Third, I realized, wow, dying was not scary. But it was very sad just because I only wished I could have seen my kids grow up.
Fortunately, I was given the gift of a miracle of not dying that day. I was given another gift, with which I was to see into the future and come back and live differently.
About a month later, my wife and I were at a performance by my daughter, not much artistic talent. Yet, I’m crying. I realized that above all, the only goal in my life was to be a good father.
Audience, again, imagine the same thing happening on your plane. How would you change? What would you get done? And more than anything, are you being the best parent you can?
Thank you.

We will work with you and after the first 1-2 articles, most of our young writers are up and running on their own. We will be selecting 4-6 young writers to join our team this year and will guide you through the experience. Does this sound like a challenge you are up to? First, let’s answer some questions that you might have.
How Old Should I Be?
Most of our Young Editors are typically 13-17 years of age. You will be writing on politics, science, environment and other current events which will require you to read and understand the background material. If you have strong writing skills, are part of your school newspaper or see yourself as a future journalist, this is for you!
How Long Is the Program?
It is a six-week program from July to mid-August, where you will be writing one article a week. We understand summer is also a time for vacations, and we are flexible as long as you inform us in advance.
What Do We Expect from a Young Editor?
Good writing skills and the ability to communicate your thoughts clearly are most important since you are writing for other young readers. We use current events to explain the underlying context or a concept, so you will need to put your research hats on. It is important that articles be unprejudiced and state all points of view of an issue. And of course, your articles have to be original—no copying! We will send you guidelines if you are selected. A few benefits of being a summer writer:
Your work will be seen by young readers all over the world.
Your knowledge of topics deepens, broadens and widens as you research and write articles.
Is that reason enough to want to join? Send us an email to editor@youngzine.org.
Please contact us by June 10 if you are interested.
