Are you having difficulty centering on your studies? Well, don’t worry. Here are some easy things you can do to center on study.

Have everything you need to study.     1     Even if you’re not sure if you’ll need them, they should be in your study area. In this way, you won’t have to get up, interrupting yourself from studying.

Write down your study goals. For just today, what do you want to get finished? It’s your goal, and it’ll give you something to work toward during your study time.     2     For example, if you have to read 100 pages this week, break it down to 20 passages a day.

Spare some time to think about other things.     3     At this time, keep a pen and paper beside you and write down everything that comes to your mind when you’re studying. Then do or think about those things once you’re having a stop.

Make studying more active. Reading can get boring, especially when it’s in a topic you don’t enjoy. So, how can you make your studying easier?     4     Or look away from the page and summarize out loud what you read.

Listen to your body. The fact is that we all have highenergy time of the day. When are yours? If possible, study during your highenergy time.     5     For some people, this will be early in the morning. For others, they feel good at night. Whichever is yours, listen to your body and study during that time.

A.You’ll be able to center better.
B.Well, ask yourself questions as you read.
C.Make sure your cell phone is turned off.
D.However, make sure your goals can be achieved.
E.Make a study plan based on your learning style.
F.Pencils, pens, and books should be within your reach.
G.Sometimes the real world keeps getting into our minds, good or bad.

【推荐1】Nosebleeds may be annoying but they're not uncommon. Each year, up to 60 million people in the U. S. experience a bloody nose, according to Yale Medicine. The nose contains many blood vessels(血管) that help warm and humidify the air you breathe in.    1    This makes them injured easily either from dry environments, blowing your nose too hard or picking at them with your fingers. In most cases, nosebleeds aren't reason for alarm and can be effectively treated at home.

    2

There are several ways to stop a bloody nose, but Yale Medicine suggests the following steps to stop it at home:

Sit down and firmly pinch(捏紧)the soft part of your nose just above the nostrils(鼻孔)for about 10 minutes using a tissue or towel.

Don't lean your head back.    3    This will force blood toward the tissue on your nose and help prevent blood from rolling down the back of your throat and into your stomach.

Place a cloth-covered ice pack on the bridge of your nose to tighten blood vessels and help relieve any inflammation(炎症).

Don't lie down.    4    It will help reduce blood pressure in the blood vessels in your nose and lessen the bleed.

If bleeding doesn't stop after 10 minutes of pressure, use nose drops such as Afrin.    5

A.They are exposed to air.
B.How do you stop a nosebleed?
C.Keep your nose above your heart.
D.What's the favorite way to stop a nosebleed?
E.They lie close to surface of the inside of your nose.
F.Instead lean forward and breathe through your mouth.

【推荐2】Teach your teens to be safety-minded passengers

Over half of teens who die in car crashes are not behind the wheel, and teens’ chances of being in a deadly accident rise obviously if they ride with a teen driver. Teen passengers can lower this risk by limiting distractions (分心), respecting the driver and always wearing a seat belt.

Here are some quick tips for teaching your teens to be safety-minded passengers:

1.     1     Distractions are a major cause of crashes, and passenger distractions are especially dangerous for new drivers. Discuss helpful passenger behaviors, such as reading directions when asked and respecting the driver by not talking loudly, talking on a cell phone, playing loud music, or acting wildly.

2. Insist on seat belts. Most teen passengers who died in accidents were not wearing seat belts.     2     In a crash, a body without a safety belt can hurt others in the car.

3. Don’t let your teens ride with a driver who has less than a year of experience. Most teen crashes are the result of “rookie (新手)” mistakes.     3

4. Pay attention. To help your teens make good safety decisions, keep the lines of communication open.     4     Provide alternatives (可能的选择), like rides, to allow them to avoid unsafe driving situations.

5. Create a code (密码) word. Help your teens get out of unsafe situations by calling or texting you with a previously agreed-upon code word that signals trouble.     5

A.Lead by example.
B.Talk about how to be a safe passenger.
C.Seat belts will help protect their friends’ lives as well as their own.
D.When you hear or see the word, pick them up right away.
E.Parents play an important role in teen driving safety.
F.Know where they are going and discuss how they will get there.
G.Even the most grown-up teen needs time to gain driving experience through driving.

【推荐3】A school girl writes to me and says that a girl named Jane just transferred (转学) to their class and became her deskmate.     1     But Lucy and she have been friends for a long time, and they enjoy doing things together. She asks me what she should do. The following is what I say to her:

This is quite a compliment (祝贺).

2     Imagine if you were new in a class and hadn't made friends yet. I knew I would be very nervous and a bit shy to reach out. This is why when I was younger and there was a new student in my school or my class, my friends and I would introduce ourselves and get to know him or her. It's important to put yourself in the other person's shoes.

It's really nice that she felt comfortable enough to ask you to be a friend. Are you worried that Lucy will be upset or that being friends with the new girl in class will take away the time you spend with her?     3

You can introduce the new girl to Lucy as well. If you are worried this might change things between you and Lucy, I don't think it has to be a bad thing.

While sometimes adding another person to your circle of friends can change the dynamic (活力), chances are that you all get along really well.     4     In fact, it’s important to always try to make new friends.

Reaching out to someone when they are in an uncomfortable situation is also a sign of kindness and empathy (同感).     5     And you never know-you just might make a lifelong friend.

A.Being the new kid can be tough.
B.You can't agree on everything.
C.If so, I don't think you should worry.
D.Having a new friend doesn't mean you lose your old one.
E.You will have a positive influence on your other classmates.
F.You should have a heart-to-heart talk with your old friend.
G.Jane doesn't have friends in the class and wants to make friends with her.
