Zhangye National Geopark, which    1     (lie) in Northwest China’s Gansu Province, is blessed with a splendid Danxia landform area    2     (cover) about 1,289 square kilometers. The Danxia landforms are    3     masterpiece of nature. The colorful mountain ridges are just like an overturned palette from heaven. Bands of fiery red, creamy orange, rich green and bright yellow streak across the mountain, forming    4    is known as the most beautiful rainbow mountain.   

The beautiful landscapes    5     (create) by sandstone and minerals piling on top of one another over the years due to tectonic plate movements. Wind, rain, and time then carved the rock formations and rolling hills into    6     (vary) extraordinary shapes, including towers, pillars and valleys.   

    7    (declare) a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2010 and a national park in 2011, the landform has become a top tourist    8     (attract). The park features a series of boardwalks that allow visitors to walk around the colorful sandstone landscapes. There are viewing platforms    9     (special) designed, enabling tourists to get close to the hills and feast their eyes on the magnificent sights without damaging the fragile ecosystem. Shuttle bus service is available, making    10     easy for tourists to get around the park.

Located in the north-east of Italy, Venice is known     1     "The Floating City". It is made up of over 100 small islands,     2     are connected by waterways and bridges. Unfortunately, water is also putting Venice in great     3    (dangerous). Saltwater is     4     ( slow) damaging the bases of Venice's buildings. The Floating City is, in fact,sinking.

More problems     5     (cause) by floods, which usually hit the city each winter. But these floods could now be a thing of the past thanks to a new flood prevention project.     6     (lie) in the middle of a lagoon, Venice was often hit by seawater caused by rain and strong winds every year, which travels through the     7     (nature) gaps to Venice.Dozens of gates have been built to hold back the sea until now. Each of these gates is 20 meters wide, with     8    longest about 30 meters long. In the event of a big rise in the water level, the gates will be raised to separate the city from the sea.

But only time will tell whether this project is the right solution. The important thing is that action is being taken    9    (protect) this unique city for future    10     (generation). And if it works, it means a longer, drier future for Venice.

Today, I arrived back in San Francisco and it feels    1    (definite)good to be back in the city again.The city succeeded in     2    （rebuild） itself after the earthquake that     3    （occur） in 1906, and I stayed in the Mission District, enjoying some delicious noodles    4     (mix)with cultures.

In the afternoon, I headed to a local museum that showed the     5    (history) changes in California. I learnt that America got California from Mexico in 1848. In the same year, gold was discovered near San Francisco. Over 300, 000 people came from all over the world to seek     6    (they) fortune. To earn     7    living, many Chinese arrived here and opened up shops and restaurants in Chinatown. Many others worked on farms,     8     (join) the gold rush, or went to build the railway that connected California to the east. The museum showed us how America was built by     9    (immigrate) from different countries and cultures.

In the evening, I went to Chinatown, and ate in a Cantonese restaurant     10    served food on beautiful china plates. Tomorrow evening, I'm going to a jazz bar in the Richmond District.
