Becoming a positive thinker

Some people seem to be born with positive attitudes.     1     Developing a positive attitude is typically a process of replacing old habits of negativity with confidence. While some may be hard to break, no habit is too fixed to be changed.

Accept your accomplishments.     2     Our attitude is often the difference in whether we consider the cup half-empty or half-full. Practice celebrating the victories — even the small ones — such as meeting a deadline, accomplishing a task you dislike or solving a difficult problem. Consider obstacles (障碍) as problems to be solved by recognizing the knowledge gained through failure.

Turn capacity into capability. Humans are born with an enormous amount of capacity — one’s innate (与生俱来的) physical, intellectual, and emotional abilities — but little capability without learning and practice.     3     The Einsteins and Hawkings of the world do not know “E equal MC squared” or theories about black holes at birth. Their insights were the result of years of study and boring mathematical calculations. In other words, they transformed their capacity for intellectual breakthroughs into capability.

4     When your inner monologue starts suggesting that you will never get your assignments done on time or that the work is too hard, find a way to take a more positive view of the situation. For example, if you are struggling to finish a research paper on time, look for ways that you can rearrange your schedule to make more time for the project rather than giving in to hopelessness.

Being a positive thinker is not about ignoring reality in favor of hopeful thoughts.     5

A.Focus on your thoughts.
B.Watch carefully for negative self-talk.
C.Every life is filled with wins and losses.
D.It is more about taking a proactive approach to your life.
E.Self-blame is another common type of negative thinking.
F.Fortunately, those not so lucky can learn to be positive thinkers.
G.For example, a child has two legs but needs training to master the skill.

【推荐1】If you are a newcomer to the USA, you may find your name hard for the local people to pronounce. It often brings trouble.     1    . Here are some practical tips for you.

Make your name easier

When you are applying for a job or attending a presentation, write down the phonetic spelling next to your name. This will make your name much easier. From my own experience, my new friends find this method useful. When they see “Ilincha [ee-lean-ka]”, they can follow the guidance correctly.     2    .

Act in a right way

If others mispronounce your name, you should never question why they can’t pronounce it correctly.     3    . Instead, you can behave politely by offering the right pronunciation to your friends. Just politely show them how to say your name right. And then, you can even start interesting conversations about the meaning of your name.

Stay true to yourself

4    . Take me as an example. People often ask me if I have a nickname, or if they could just change my name into something easier. But I hold to my ground. I would be true to myself and say, “No, I would prefer to be called [ee-lean-ka] as this carries great meaning for me.”

5    . We should all love and celebrate each of our names. Therefore, be proud of your name and speak up for yourself.

A.Be patient and kind
B.And don’t blame them for the mistake, either
C.You may wonder how to handle such problems
D.As a result, they can pronounce my name easily
E.Hopefully, the tips above will bring you confidence
F.Remember, you shouldn’t change your name to fit in
G.It should be noticed that some names can be easily mispronounced

【推荐2】Are your days a continuous race against the clock? If so, you probably don’t know how you’ll be able to complete everything.     1     .Whatever the reason is, learn to become more efficient with your time, manage your work or school load, and enjoy the time you have.

2     There is a variety of ways to do this. Try keeping a log or journal for several days. You can also make a chart or graph showing how your time is spent. Be sure to keep track of everything that’s taking up your time: sleep, work, eating, chores, school, etc.

Start with your most important goal. Put a large amount of your energy into completing more important tasks before moving on to less important items. Work on your biggest project in the daytime when you have the most energy. For some people, this may be the first thing in the morning, while night owls prefer to deal with it at night.     3

Multitask smartly. You can stick to multitasking when it comes to thoughtless jobs (doing the laundry, washing dishes, making meals, etc.).     4     In other words, allow your mind to focus on one task at a time, preferably at a time of day when you work the most efficiently.

Remove distractions (使人分心的事).     5     .Today, devices, emails and social media all compete for your careful attention at any given moment. If you find yourself having trouble completing tasks, try turning off your cell phone, signing out all social media sites and going somewhere quiet. You’ll find that being able to focus on one task may increase your efficiency.

A.Everything demands your attention.
B.Determine how you spend your time.
C.Or maybe you’re confused about how to spend your time.
D.Remember to spare time for family, relaxation or personal matters.
E.Simply say that you can’t do it, because it doesn’t work out for you.
F.Then find out what works for you and don’t waste your valuable energy.
G.But don’t try to write a poem while reading an article or talking on the phone.

【推荐3】Tips to Start Doing Things That You Do Not Like To Do

Even though it is there on our to-do list, we give it less priority (优先权) because we dislike doing it.     1     On the other side, if you put effort into doing difficult things or those things you do hate to do, you will be able to do harder tasks with confidence later in life. Here are some good-to –know tips that will encourage you to start doing things that you do not like to do:

Stop hating the task.     2     To become a confident and better person, you should start loving to do difficult things, especially the ones you do not like to do.

Look at the bigger picture. If you meet a difficult task, instead of shying away from it, take some time and think about it. What is the major reason behind doing this task?     3     you need to look at the bigger picture instead of just thinking about the task.

Overcome your fear. One thing that stops you from carrying out the task is fear. You may develop a fear, thinking that the task is very difficult or you are not comfortable when doing it. You can never overcome fear by running away from it.     4     Why not face it now and become braver?

5    . If you think you have enough time on your side, you may not put enough effort into carrying out the task. So, if you limit yourself to carry out a certain task in a set period, you will not waste time but make the best use of it and accomplish the task.

A.Do not think about the failure.
B.Set a time period to complete it.
C.Sooner or later you have to face it.
D.What will happen if you complete the task?
E.Life would be boring without difficult situations.
F.Successful people do things they do not like to do, too.
G.Instead of giving it a try, we may stay away from it completely.
