China has a very rich and brilliant tea culture. It is one of the most important parts of Chinese tradition. A small cup of tea contains the spirit and    1    (wise) of the Chinese people. It seems like the most    2    (enjoy) thing to drink a cup of tea on a quiet day.

Just like coffee, tea grown in different areas    3    (have) different flavors. Some needs to be drunk with small and delicate tea cups, and some can    4    (drink) from a big bowl.

Chinese people believe tea needs to be drunk quietly,    5    many of the tea shops are located in a corner of a Hutong, providing customers    6    a very quiet and comfortable environment—but the fast—pace of life sometimes doesn’t allow that. So there are tea shop owners who, just    7     Starbucks does, locate their shops in the downtown area to provide service for quick customers.

Take Heytea as    8    example. It was just a small tea shop    9    (locate) in a small lane in a small city of Guangdong province in 2019. But in only 5 years, it    10    (expand) 83 stores over China, including big cities like Beijing. Waiting in lines for more than an hour for their tea is a common occurrence.

The 23rd of La is celebrated as the Minor Festival. From 23rd of La onwards the festive mood of Spring Festival begins to pick up. There are more and more vendor’s (小贩) stands along the streets filled with a great     1    (various) of Spring Festival goods that catch the eye: Spring Festival couplets, New Year paintings, window decorations, paper cuts, fireworks, firecrackers, lanterns, etc. You can hear vendors     2    (call) for business up and down the streets.

The Minor Festival is also known     3     the Kitchen God Day. In the past, Kitchen God,     4     was placed next above or next to the stove, was worshiped (敬奉) in every household. On this day, Kitchen God was to go and report to Jade Emperor in Heaven what he     5    (see) on earth. He was believed to be able to determine fortunes or misfortunes of the household,     6     the household took great care to worship Kitchen God as best they could. Among the offerings     7    (present) to Kitchen God there was the sticky malt sugar. When Kitchen God took it, his     8    (tooth) and lips got stuck up and couldn’t report to Jade Emperor for anything bad about the household. When     9     worshiping ritual (仪式) was over, the portrait (画像) of Kitchen God was burned and people believed he went up to Heaven while crackers were fired.

This sounds like a funny story.     10    (unlucky), as people know more and more about science, old customs like this are being forgotten.

Evolving from the discovery that     1     (use) stone needles to prick specific points on the surface of the body could relieve pain and symptoms, for thousands of years acupuncture     2     (become) an essential part of traditional Chinese medicine, in line with the philosophy that promotes the     3     (harmony) coexistence of humans with nature.

According to Records of the Grand Historian, written by Sima Qian about 2,100 years ago, Bian Que, a     4     (high) seasoned physician during the Warring States Period (475-221 BC), was famous for having saved a prince from “death” by using needles to stimulate the Baihui acupoint on the head of     5     unconscious man.

According to TCM, stimulating the acupoints can unblock motionless qi,     6     restore normal circulation, thus improving health. Treatments of traditional Chinese medicine, have won increasing recognition throughout the world since they     7     (list) on the Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in 2010.

Li Ming, a 41-year-old, spent one and a half years on the treatment of her dry eyes. After more than 130     8     (visit), her symptoms significantly decreased, and her eyes became moist (湿润的) enough     9     her to resume work.

In 2010, UNESCO inscribed acupuncture and moxibustion of TCM on the Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Yet, the practice is not only cultural and historical, but a medical technique     10     is widely used and researched today.
