My Travel Experience in China

During the summer holidays, I visited a variety of regions in China.

My first stop was the Great Wall. Without question it lived up     1     my expectations.

After a long journey, I reached Yunnan. With     2    (it) minority villages and impressive landscape, Yunnan had a lot to offer. One of my enjoyable     3    (moment) in Yunnan was during my visit to the Tiger Leaping Gorge. The climb over the gorge was at times exhausting     4     always breathtaking. The beauty of its views couldn’t     5    (imagine) and they     6    (leave) me with many great memories.

After that, I arrived at Hainan. There I visited the Baihualing Waterfall.     7    (look) up at the waterfall with a background of blue sky was one of the most     8    (relax) experiences in my life.

Throughout China there are many ancient buildings. It was remarkable to step back in time and get an idea of     9     China might have looked like all those years ago. I thought the buildings were beautiful and full of history.

I had a wonderful time! China is     10    (extreme) fascinating!

Chengdu has dozens of new millionaires, Asia’s biggest building, and fancy new hotels. But for tourists like me, pandas are its top     1    (attract).

So it was a great honour to be invited backstage at the not-for-profit Panda Base, where ticket money helps pay for research. I     2    (allow) to get up close to these cute animals at the 600-acre centre. From tomorrow, I will be their UK ambassador. The title will be     3    (official) given to me at a ceremony in London. But my connection with pandas goes back     4     my days on a TV show in the mid-1980s,     5     I was the first Western TV reporter     6    (permit) to film a special unit caring for pandas rescued from starvation in the wild. My ambassadorial duties will include     7    (introduce) British visitors to the 120-plus pandas at Chengdu and others at a research centre in the misty mountains of Bifengxia.

On my recent visit, I held a lively three-month-old twin that had been rejected by     8    (it) mother. The nursery team switches him every few     9    (day) with his sister so that while one is being bottle-fed,     10     other is with mum—she never suspects.

TRAVEL PERU

Amazon Rainforest Tour   A short flight from Cusco takes you from the Andes into the Amazon rainforest. Lake Titicaca Tour Enjoy the beautiful countryside     7     you spend a day driving along the new highway connecting Cusco to Lake Titicaca. There, a boat will take you     8     (stay) with a local Uros family on an island for three    9     (day).
