What’s your understanding of education? It is a term that can have many meanings, but it is     1     (general) defined as the process of learning information. Formal learning in     2     school or university is one of the most common     3     (type). Communities around the world place a high value on     4     (educate) people of all ages, whether formally or informally.

When talking about education, most people will think of schools and classrooms where trained teachers present information     5     students. Classroom learning usually     6     (start) when a child is very young—around five years old in most countries. The purpose of most classroom learning is not to prepare a child for a specific job,       7     to help him or her develop critical reasoning and thinking skills.

Millions of first-year Chinese primary, middle and high school students have received new versions of Chinese language textbooks     1    (write) by the Ministry of Education, the textbooks attach more importance to traditional Chinese culture.

Textbooks for high schools have more content on traditional Chinese articles and poems.

Primary school students’ books contain 129 ancient Chinese articles,     2    take up 30 percent of all the texts. The articles were chosen from classic essays, historical records, and poetry     3    (date) back to the Han, Tang and Song     4    (dynasty). Before the official release, the textbooks     5    (test) in schools in 2016, but not everyone is a fan. Some parents have questioned the added focus on classical Chinese no longer     6    use.

However,     7    welcome the new books. “Students at that age may not be able to understand classic poetry and essays well, but they will benefit sooner or later,” one teacher said.

Recently a really strange thing happened in a middle school in China’s Hubei Province. Over 600 students there took part in a “caring for an egg like a baby”     1    (active) in which they were asked to keep an egg close at hand for a month without     2    (break) it.

“It’s hard for parents to bring up their children     3     many students just ignore it, ”said Liu Kang, the school’s director. “They should be taught to be grateful to their parents, who     4    (give) them life but ask for nothing in return.”

Li Ming is one of the students. His egg didn’t break during the month, but he felt     5    (exhaust).”I now understand what great difficulty my parents have had     6    (bring) me up. I’ll do all I can to make their life easier and     7    (comfort) when I grow up,“ promised the 13- year- old boy.

    8    (luck) about 450 students broke their eggs. Yan Yueming broke his egg after just five days,    9    made him frustrated. He said, “I can’t imagine how sad my parents would be if there was something wrong with me, their ‘egg’! It is now time I should do something in return     10     their love,”said Yan.
