My friend and I looked over at the beaches and were highly excited. We had     1     (final) arrived at the Canary Island of Fuerteventura and were staying in the quiet coastal town El Cotillo. After     2     (hope) to visit the Canary Islands someday for so long, it was worth the wait to get a chance     3     (relax) in these beautiful surroundings (环境) .

The nearby beaches were beautiful with rich white sand and clean waters     4     weren't far from our hotel. People often walked by with     5     (they) dogs, and families played nearby but there were no crowds.

One evening weds covered a number of restaurants and bars (酒吧) as well as a market. We     6     (see) the Castillo de El Cotillo, a historic monument (纪念碑). It felt very safe to walk around, so I went for     7    evening walk alone along the nearest beach one night.

One day we took an exciting cart our of Fuerteventura with a(n)     8     (friend), knowledgeable guide and enjoyed views of mountains. We even drove up one. Our tour also showed us beautiful coastlines, and many local places of interest.

After seven days we left this wonderful island. I had been far away     9    home, but was in a homely, quiet place with lots of exciting     10     (thing) to see and do. I want to go back one day and experience some more.

National Geographic explorer Paul Salopek has just hiked across Erlang Mountain in Southwest China’s Sichuan province. This is just a start of his     1    (ambition) plan of trekking (跋涉) in China.

As a trekker with global footprints, Salopek is committed to experiencing different cultures all over the world and     2    (record) the lives of people he encounters on his journey. China, a large country with diverse natural and human landscapes,     3    (be) an important stop on Salopek’s global trek.

Starting in September 2021, Salopek set off from Yunnan province and     4    (plan) to walk through many regions.“My route is not always to famous tourist landmarks,”says the explorer, who likes to visit grassroots areas     5    (find) real life.“It could be someone’s dinner table,     6    the sight of an old ethnic Bai weaving at home.” Because every step of the way is new to him, Salopek tries to keep an open mind about     7     he can seek memorable things.

Salopek is also witnessing China’s achievements in the fields of ecology, wildlife conservation.“I hiked across other places    8    (empty) of their wildlife by human beings. The Gaoligong Mountains represents a chance for comfort,” Salopek says while hiking across the mountains.

Salopek is still currently    9    the road, walking across China,     10    journey in China is being recorded by a film crew for a 10-episode documentary series entitled The Forever Walk: China.

Chinese netizens recently expressed     1     (amaze) at a map online clearly marking the country’s historic relics (文物). The map     2     (make) by Wu Yunjie, who was born in the 1990s.     3     (interest) in history, Wu would often spend his spare time travelling around the country, when he was in college, and     4     (explore) ancient sites.

In 2020, he started collecting information on cultural relics and uploaded the data to the mapping software. As many historical sites in rural areas cannot be located     5     (specific) , Wu did a lot of field research. “The job is rather difficult     6     I have much joy in it．I’m happy to make people more aware of the huge and rich historical heritage (遗产) from China’s long history,” he said.

Now, the map     7     (include) nearly 10,000 relics or museums. Many valuable temples, bridges and towers     8     have been lost in the country are also shown on the map. One post online said “The ancient tower around my house on the map! I can’t wait to visit     9    .”

However, in Wu’s eyes, the map is just     10     step forward, as it records a very small part of the cultural relics in the country, and he still has a long way to go.
