We do not stop playing because we are old: we grow old because we stop playing. That’s what I learnt from my new and special friend. On the first day of school our professor introduced himself and challenged us to get to know someone we didn’t know.
I looked around when a gentle hand touched my shoulder. I turned around to find a wrinkled, little old lady with a smile. She said, “Hi, handsome. My name is Rose. I’m eight-seven years old. Can I give you a hug?” I laughed and enthusiastically responded, “Of course you may!” She gave me a giant squeeze. “Why are you in college at such a young innocent age?” I asked jokingly. “I always dreamed of having a college education and now I’m getting one!” she replied. After class we walked to the Students Union building and shared a chocolate milkshake there. We became instant friends.
Every day of the next three months we would leave class together and talk nonstop. I was always listening to this “time machine” as she shared her wisdom and experience with me. Over the course of the year, Rose became a campus icon and she easily made friends whenever she went. At the end of the semester we invited Rose to speak at our football dinner. I’ll never forget what she taught us.
“There is a huge difference between growing older and growing up. Any body can grow old. That doesn’t take any talent of ability. The idea is to grow up by always finding opportunities in change. Have no regrets. The elderly usually don’t have regrets for what we did, but rather for things we did not do. The only people who fear death are those with regrets.”
She concluded her speech by courageously singing The Song of Rose. She challenged each of us to study the lyrics(歌词)and live them out in our daily life. At the year’s end, Rose finished the college degree she had begun all those years ago. One week after graduation Rose died peacefully in her sleep.

Sensing her sadness, I drove 12 hours to give her a hug. I could feel this hug restored (恢复) her trust in humanity. She was ready to live again. This simple act of kindness had the ability to restore life. How many others out there wanted love in the form of a hug? Thus, the hugs campaign was born.
I printed leaflets (传单) with words of inspiration and passed them out while giving hugs at the Santa Monica Promenade. Every Saturday and Sunday, I stood holding a sign, inviting people with a smile. At first, 1 was frightened of offering strangers hugs, and it was a personal challenge for me to overcome my own fear But once I overcame it, the rest was magic.
I have learned a lot about people through my hugs campaign. I have learned to read people in much the same way as you would read a book. I started to find out who would be most likely to receive a hug, who would need some time to warm up before accepting a hug, and who would look at me with disgust while they hurriedly walked away as if I were giving them poison.
There was a gentleman who walked back and forth, looking at me first with disgust, then with interest, and then with fear. Upon the fifth time he passed my station, he finally walked slowly in my direction and stood waiting for me to meet him the rest of the way. I went slowly not to scare him off, and I stretched (张开) my arms out hoping he would meet mine. He did. We stood in an awkward (笨拙的) hug, and then he rushed off never looking backwards.
There was a homeless man in a wheelchair who asked for a leaflet but said I did not have to hug him, as he had not showered for some time. I told him it didn't matter. He looked at me amazedly as if to say, "Really?" The world had been cruel, and he was used to being walked away from. I bent down and held him close and told him he was loved.
People want human touch, yet many do not get enough of it. Some are afraid of hugs, but I have learned that given the chance, many will seize the chance to be hugged.

I tried to talk with locals to solve the mystery. But at a newcomer’s spying curiosity, the villagers always avoided any conversation. It left me completely in the dark.

I felt a bit scared and was prepared for anything, but all that happened was that he took out a tired-looking $ 1000 bank-note. Roughly printed on it was: MINNIE.
“All you do is take Minnie to the bank and put her up for any amount up to $1000. You pay the bank their required interest, and then Minnie comes back to me. “He continued. “Minnie loved this village, and she wanted to keep on helping people after she was gone.”

Seeing the amazing experiences unfold for her big brother, Heidi Hudicka set out to create her own first business, a fashion clothing line for her 18 dolls.
But one day, Joey and Heidi met after school and experienced a real breakthrough. “I was telling Joey I was asking friends if they would like me to outsource (外包) the sewing of my designs to them, since it is not really my favorite part of that business, but none of my friends understood what I meant by outsourcing,” recalls Heidi.

In Nigeria, where road conditions can be poor, and rural clinics are often unprepared to deal with major medical emergencies, Flying Doctors has become a lifesaver, airlifting patients from remote areas to hospitals, and providing care on the way.
London-born Orekunrin was inspired to set up the company after her 12-year-old sister died. When she was still in medical school in the U.K., her sister was on holiday in Nigeria and unexpectedly needed emergency treatment. The nearest clinic wasn't able to treat her. The family tried to find an air ambulance to move her to the hospital, but the quickest-available service was far away in South Africa. Her sister had died by the time a flight became available.
“I was filled with deep sadness and almost anger,” Orekunrin says. “I wanted to come to Nigeria and try to contribute in some way.”
After studying other models of emergency air ambulances in the U.K. and other parts of Africa, Orekunrin knew it would be the most effective way to help patients access the proper facilities in a large area that is often difficult to travel by car.
But getting Flying Doctors off the ground wasn't easy. Orekunrin began by renting aircraft as a way to keep costs down. She then established partnerships with hospitals across Africa and abroad and started her company nearly five years ago. The company now has 20 helicopters and jets and a staff that includes seven senior flight doctors.
Orekunrin has also worked toward improving medical care across Nigeria. Flying Doctors now provides scholarships for medical students and has established partnerships with rural non-governmental organizations, such as the Starlite Hopes Initiative, in Nigeria's Delta State, which offers care to the poor.

His life is pretty normal, which is astonishing considering doctors didn’t even expect Noah to survive his first birthday.
His mom, Michelle Wall, was pregnant when tests revealed that her little one had spina bifida (脊椎裂). When they performed more tests, a scan of Noah’s head showed a cyst (囊肿) that was destroying his brain.

Yet Noah is not mentally disabled. In fact, he’s impressively clever! At 9, he is physically active and dreams of becoming an astronaut someday.
“They told us he might not be able to speak, hear, eat, or anything,” Michelle said. “But I see he can tell the time, read, do maths and love science He can talk about the solar system He has incredible dreams”.
Noah has gone through 11 surgeries so far and there are many more to come, but he has already exceeded everyone’s expectations—in every possible way!

“Practice makes perfect. You get used to the elevation (海拔) when you love the sport and train hard enough,” said the potential basketball star, who has been passionate about the sport since taking it up three years ago.
Cigla wears wristbands when playing her favorite sport. With her outstanding speed, agility (灵活) and accurate passes, she never fails to shine on the basketball court, even when she competes against the boys. Though she is a freshman in high school, Cigla already has a clear picture of her future-entering a sports college to study basketball. In the eyes of Cigla, who comes from a poor herder’s family in northern Tibet’s Nagqu City, studying in Lhasa, the region’s most developed city, has made it much easier for her to realize her basketball dream.
With an average altitude of over 4,500 meters, Nagqu is among the most uninhabitable places in Tibet, known as the “roof of the world”. Low-oxygen environments and extreme weather have long influenced the health of Nagqu students, hampering the development of primary education in the area.
Like Cigla, many students at the school are from poor farmers’ and herders’ families. Dawa Droma, a senior student also on the school’s female basketball team, said her passion (热爱) for the sport started from her first basketball game in her freshman year.
“I had never touched a basketball before that game but joined the class team anyway. When I scored and heard my classmates cheer for me, I couldn’t feel more proud. That’s how I fell in love with basketball and never looked back,” she recalled.
