Four destinations for electric-bike tours across Canada
Banff by e-bike
White Mountain Adventures and Banff Cycle both launched guided e-bike tours of Canada’s first national park this summer The former’s offerings include a 50-kilometre there-and-back ride along the Bow Valley Park way and a50-km return ride along the car-free Rocky Mountain Legacy Trail. Banff Cycle, meanwhile, adds a three-hour “Banff and Bow Valley” guided trip to the mix.
Fat-biking in Yukon
This new ride from the luxurious Mount Logan EcoLodge on the Alaska Highway near Haines Junction provides an exception to the rule that Canadian e-bike tours are unavailable in winter. Equipped with oversized tires to allow riding on snow and other unstable surfaces, the electric fat bikes can be booked for two-hour guided tours that explore the wilderness bordering Kluane National Park.
Sipping and e-cycling in Niagara
Niagara Cycling Tours hosts group outings of at least four e-bike riders that range in length from 65 to more than 110 kilometres. The offerings include a two-day “Niagara Introductory Ride,” which can be customized to visit local attractions, and a new “Beers and Bikes” tour, which rides between more than a dozen craft breweries (啤酒厂).
Gardens and gouda on Vancouver Island
Based in pretty Qualicum Beach. the new Electric Bike Co. offers a three-hour “Home and Garden Tour” highlighting high-design private houses and seaside flowers; and a four-to five hour ride and ferry (轮渡) voyage to Hornby Island, home of the Helliwell and Tribune Bay provincial parks.

Italy's culture ministry is looking for someone to run Pompeii: the enormous ruins near Naples of an ancient Roman city in Italy destroyed by an eruption (火山爆发) of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD- -and one of the country's most popular tourist attractions.
Who can get the job
For the first time ever, the job is open to persons of any nationality as well as Italians, and a global search for the right candidate (候选人) is now underway.
“Pompeii is loved by archaeologists (考古学家) from all over the world. We imagine that many applications will arrive ,”said Dario Franceschini, the country's minister of cultural heritage and tourism.
Advantage of the job
The job is a four-year agreement of employment, with the option to extend for another four. “There will be digging and more big discoveries will be made,” said Franceschini, “This is a job which brings huge satisfaction as well as great responsibility. ”
Ways of getting the job
If you think you're up to the job, the application deadline is November 3. Now's the time to dig up the resume (简历). You can hand it in in person or by fax. The email is also available, but not the phone.

When he went to the bank, he was surprised. He told Sherry, “When you open a checking account, it’s like shopping. You choose the services you need. The man at the bank asked us to read this chart and choose the plan that is right for us.”
Types of Checking Accounts | ||
Plans | Benefits | Fees |
Special Checking ($ 25 to open) | * open with only $ 25 * 5 free checks per month | * $ 3.00 monthly service charge * $ 0.50 for each check over 5 |
Personal Checking ($ 100 to open) | * unlimited free checks * no fee to use bank’s automated teller machine ( ATM) | * $ 8. 00 monthly service charge * no fee when you keep a $ 750 daily balance or $ 1,500 in savings |
EARN Checking ($ 200 to open) | * unlimited free checks * no fee to use bank’s ATM * pay 2% interest | * $ 8. 00 monthly service charge * no fee when you keep a $ 1500 daily balance or $ 2,000 in savings |
Jon and Sherry thought over the number of checks they would write each month. Between home expenses and personal spending, they realized they would write as many as 25 checks in a month. They decided the Special Checking account would cost too much. It had a check charge and a service charge. The EARN Checking account would require them to keep too much money in the bank. They chose the Personal Checking account because the $ 8.00 service charge would be cheaper than paying $ 0.50 per check.
1. Which plan does a customer choose if he wants to get the interest?A.None available | B.Special Checking |
C.Personal Checking | D.EARN Checking |
A.$ 2.5 | B.$ 12.5 | C.$ 13 | D.$ 15.5 |

Ecotourists are people who want to experience the natural world without damage and leave it that way when they return home. This started in the 1990s and ecotourism is now growing three times faster than the tourism industry at large. The Ecuador’s remote Amazon Basin (盆地) is leading to that enlarging, and it gives a snapshot of what ecotourism looks like.
At the Ecolodge, a small group of small houses sits Kapawi Ecolodge in the middle of the Achuar people’s reserve (保护区) and is only reached by air. From here, visitors can explore parts of the Amazon rainforest seen by few outsiders. As they do local Achuar guides explain how the forest is like their supermarket, where they find food, clothing, medicine and tools. As a result, tourists learn to enjoy the local culture as well as the natural environment.
The owners of Kapawi pay monthly rent to the Achuar people, but they also train the community to run and manage the lodge. They have agreed on a plan to turn the operation over to the Achuar completely by 2011. The owners are working to make ecotourism benefit and empower the local people.
You probably won’t start your own ecolodge (生态旅馆), but you can be an ecotourist if you follow these guidelines: Protect the environment; Support local businesses; Respect the local customs and traditions.
The world is full of fascinating places to visit. As an ecotourist, you can enjoy them yourself and make sure that they remain beautiful for future generations as well.

Subject: getting back our old subscribers
Since the marketing meeting yesterday, it occurred to me that we might be ignoring one potentially important source of subscribers. We have focused so intently on how to expand the appeal of our product to groups that have never used it before that I’m afraid we may have overlooked the obvious; we may have forgotten that there is a whole group of interested people who have used it and stopped for one reason or another.
This target group has particularly good potential because it consists of readers who have demonstrated interest in the subject matter we present. Their interest is not something we have to work to stimulate. I suggest that making a maximum effort to win these readers back will be more effective on a percentage basis than pursuing some of the other groups we’ve identified.
Since these readers quit using our product once, they were most likely dissatisfied with some aspect of our presentation or our pricing. Our new product will be vastly improved over the old version and is priced more competitively. We need to do everything possible to get those points across, perhaps by sending them a free issue and by asking for their opinions on how we might improve it even further. This could be in the form of a very short survey, either included with the free issue or accessible online.
If you think this idea has merit and might be willing to authorize it, let’s discuss it further when you’ve got a few spare minutes. I have a rough draft of the survey questions I could show you.
1. What kind of product is the writer referring to in the memo?A.A web-based information service. | B.A magazine. |
C.A consulting service. | D.Computer software. |
A.Their product has no competition. |
B.Their product has changed dramatically. |
C.They have reduced the price of their product |
D.The need for their product has increased. |
A.Start her plan immediately. | B.Wait for input from the survey. |
C.Get Mr. Rodgers’ approval. | D.Present her idea in the next meeting. |
