Most people assume that life in the rat race is bad for your health.But reversing the traditional gender roles is a stressful     1    , according to the latest research by American scientists. By giving up their jobs in order to become house husbands, men     2    their risk of heart attacks by as much as 82%, according to research based on a 10-year study of 2,500 people in Boston, USA.

According to Dr Eaker, the key to the problem is that some man became     3     about performing a role not     4     assigned to them by society. Men who stay at home tend not to have the same levels of support from fiends and family as women who do the same. Jack O’Sullivan, of the Father’s Direct group, was quoted as saying: “Society expects the main carer to be a woman, and society is     5     around that. Daycare is called mother and toddle groups and some men feel     6     about belong to those groups.”

Professor Gary Cooper, a psychologist at the University of Manchester, said many men tend to     7     the task of caring for a family. He said:“Most men think being a house husband involves putting on a bit of washing , taking the kids to school and then putting their feet up with a cup of coffee. They are crazy. Most men are not used to performing a     8    of activities at the same time-the kind of multi-tasking which is second     9     to most of women.”

It is estimated that men have taken over the main homemaker’s role in one seven homes, as increasing numbers of women become the main breadwinner. The study also found that women in high-powered jobs were more likely to develop heart disease than those in more     10     positions.

A Mother’s Day surprise

The twins were filled with excitement as they thought of the surprise they were planning for Mother’s Day. How pleased and proud Mother would be when they brought her breakfast in bed. They planned to make French toast and chicken porridge. They had watched their mother in the kitchen. There was nothing to it Jenna and Jeff knew exactly what to do.

The big day came at last. The alarm rang at 6 a.m. The pair went down the stairs quietly to the kitchen. They decided to boil the porridge first. They put some rice into a pot of water and left it to boil while they made the French toast. Jeff broke two eggs into a plate and added in some milk.Jenna found the bread and put two slices into the egg mixture. Next, Jeff turned on the second stove burner to heat up the frying pan. Everything was going smoothly until Jeff started frying the bread. The pan was too hot and the bread turned black within seconds. Jenna threw the burnt piece into the sink and put in the other slice of bread. This time, she turned down the fire so it cooked nicely.

Then Jeff noticed steam shooting out of the pot and the lid starting to shake. The next minute, the porridge boiled over and put out the fire. Jenna panicked. Thankfully, Jeff stayed calm and turned off the gas quickly. But the stove was a mess now. Jenna told Jeff to clean it up so they could continue to cook the rest of the porridge. But Jeff’s hand touched the hot burner and he gave a cry of pain. Jenna made him put his hand in cold water. Then she caught the smell of burning. Oh dear! The piece of bread in the pan had turned black as well.

The Zalmanovich family, from Hod HaSharon, Israel, has told of their anger after they were told to leave the plane and had their return tickets cancelled without a refund.

The drama       1     as eight-year-old Yaheli Zalmanovich began to sob uncontrollably minutes before the family’s connecting flight from Zurich to Geneva was       2     to take-off. There were no problems on the flight from Tel Aviv and despite his parents’ best efforts, the boy could not be calmed down.

His mother, Noa, told the Israel Hayom newspaper that Swiss air cabin       3     apologized to other passengers and did not ask the family if they needed help, even though the boy vomited on himself. They were soon told they would have to leave the plane and miss their flight to Geneva，where relatives were waiting for them, she said.

Mrs. Zalmanovich told the newspaper: “They       4     kicked us off the flight. We were left with our luggage,       5     and humiliated. It was 10 p. m. and luckily we were able to catch the last train to Geneva. ”
