Even the most talkative and energetic children can feel a little discouraged after school. So the age-old question “how was your day?” can sometimes be met with half-hearted responses. Dr Siggic Cohen, a family psychologist in child development, has uncovered why kids struggle to answer this question.
The professional, who goes by the name of @parenting. with. dr. siggie on TikTok, explains that the question is too big for a child to answer. After all, there are probably so many new experiences and memories that have happened during the day for them to process. Instead, it’s better to go more specific(具体的).
Dr Siggie Cohen then gives some examples of some more focused questions such as “during snack time, who did you sit next to?” or “did your teacher say something funny today?” She says: Help your child break down their big experience in a more detailed and balanced way. This will help make things a little less at a loss, but will give them a specific part to go on with.
The TikTok, which has been watched more than 2.8 million times, has received lots of praise from parents — many thanking the psychologist for her advice.
One person replied: “Thank you for this info. I’m guilty of asking the same question. I’m now a little bit more educated.” While another added: “This is my everyday story after picking my son up from school and it upsets me. Thank you for the help.” Another parent cut in with their own strategy, stating that they always get a response when they ask their daughter what was your favorite part of your day?

“Well I hate to bring it up because I know you got enough pressure on you already. But…we agreed to get married as soon as you won your first case(law case). Meanwhile, ten years later…my niece…the daughter of my sister is getting married. My biological clock is ticking like this (stomp, stomp, stomp). And the way this case is going…I ain’t never getting married.”
“Lisa, I don’t need this. I swear to God I don’t need this right now.”
Using it this way, a biological clock means the time in a woman’s life when she is able to bear children. In the not-so-distant past, most people thought that when a woman reached her 40s it was too late for her to have children. The time on her biological clock had run out.
Well, that has changed. These days some women are resetting their biological clocks. They are giving themselves more time to have children.
Make no mistake. Being a “Single Mother by Choice” is very different from younger women who find themselves pregnant, perhaps not by choice.
Generally speaking, single mothers by choice are older and well educated. They are usually financially secure and successful in their careers. So, they have the money. What they may not have is a partner.
This is the place in life where writer Kerry Reichs found herself several years ago. She says she did not plan to become a single mother. She says she just did not find the right partner.
“Well, I think I had a set of standards for the partner I was looking for and I didn’t meet anyone that fit those standards. And, at 39 I found myself single, without children and I wanted them very much. So, I made the difficult decision that I could do this on my own.

MacCallum moved quite a bit in childhood and spent her formative years outside Canberra in a farmhouse without electricity, where she enjoyed the freedom of the natural world. In her teens, she and her family moved into the heart of inner-city Sydney, and she found she adored that too.
In 2015, MacCallum and her then partner had a daughter, Amelia. They wanted to make sure that despite being a city kid, Amelia had plenty of natural encounters so they sought out places to climb trees, watch lizards and spot turtles. But one day MacCallum realised her little girl was more at ease with busy streets than bushland. “When she was about seven, we were visiting a friend whose place had a beautiful lawn. Amelia called out to me and said, ‘I can’t go into the wild!’ We decided we had to let her experience a wider world and two months later we were in a camper van heading off around Australia.”
MacCallum admits she felt worried. “I thought we’d need to know some basic things but the trip was like a leap in the dark. ” As it happened, the van they’d bought broke down just 90 minutes into the trip. But after repairs they set off again and travelled the country for six months, during which Amelia became an enthusiastic adventurer. “That trip helped me understand that success doesn’t have to be assured,” MacCallum says. “I realised that you can start something and just work it out as you go along.”

However, there is one special exception, some say: the so-called walking palm tree (棕桐树) was found in the rainforests of Central and South America. Many people believe it can really walk around. This is because of its unusual root system: while most trees have one trunk, the palm breaks into many smaller roots a few feet off the ground, giving it the appearance of many little legs.
The amazing walking ability of the palm tree has always been told by rainforest guides to tourists for years, and appears in many sources of documents as an amazing plant adaptation. As journalist Sherry Seethaler writes in her book Curious Folks Ask 2: “Screen writers searching for the perfect B-movie (小成本电影) plant hero could take inspiration from the walking palm. The tree slowly walks from shade to sunlight by growing new roots toward the light.”
A tree that walks in search of the sun is a fascinating, strange story. And it’s not true either; the tree is real enough, but it doesn’t walk. It sits where it began to grow, not moving except under the force of wind or an axe.
Biologist Gerardo Avalos is one of the world’s top experts on the palm tree. His analysis of the plant and its roots shows that the walking tree can’t walk because its roots don’t move. A few roots on one side or another may die off, but the trunk itself remains, well, rooted to the spot.
“My paper proves that the belief of the walking palm is just a myth,” Avalos said. “Thinking that a palm tree could actually track the sunlight changes by moving slowly over the forest floor… is a myth that tourist guides find amusing to tell visitors to the rainforest.”
1. What is the reason for no worries about wandering trees?A.Trees are not always standing. | B.Trees are not always moving. |
C.Trees are not always growing. | D.Trees are not always dying. |
A.It has no roots underground. | B.It appears to have several trunks. |

D.It grows well in the shade of the rainforests. |
A.The palm tree cannot actually walk at all. |
B.The palm tree can move its roots. |

【推荐3】Some people are allergic (过敏的) to tree nuts. Would it be safe for a nut-allergic person to eat baked goods with coconut or coconut oil? Here are the views of Dr. Scott Sicherer.
Despite its name, coconut is not actually a nut, but a fruit. Regardless, the Food and Drug Administration considers it a tree nut, which is why it’s included in U.S. labeling laws.
It is difficult to assess the risk of coconut allergy among those with tree-nut allergies because allergic individuals may avoid it on purpose. Still, coconut allergy appears rare, and uncommon even among those with tree-nut allergies.
In a national registry of 5,149 people with peanut or tree-nut allergies, only four self-reported an allergy to coconut. And a more recent study of 40 children with positive tests or known allergy to peanuts or tree nuts showed no increased risks for having positive tests or allergy to coconut.
Your allergist would consider your personal allergy history in deciding whether to add coconut to your diet or to perform any testing. However, be aware that tests are often positive to coconut in people who could actually tolerate it, so a physician-supervised feeding test may be necessary for a conclusive answer.
When it comes to coconut oil, there is almost no medical literature on allergic reactions to it, which may reflect the likelihood that the processed forms of coconut oil contain little or no protein, although this has not been studied. Still, for those with coconut allergy, avoidance of coconut oil should be considered because it may still have a little protein.
Finally, it’s important to note that people with peanut or tree-nut allergies who choose to eat coconut must be careful to avoid cross-contact with tree nuts or peanut being avoided.
