Michael Jeffrey Jordan （ born February 17, 1963 ）, also     1    （know）by his initials, M J, is an American former professional basketball player, entrepreneur, and majority owner and chairman of the Charlotte Bobcats. His biography on the National Basketball Association（NBA） website states, “By acclamation （喝彩）, Michael Jordan is the     2     （great） basketball player of all time.” Jordan was one of the most     3    （effective）marketed athletes of his generation and     4    （consider） helpful in popularizing the NBA around the world in the 1980s and 1990s.

After a three-season career at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill,     5     he was a member of the Tar Heels national championship team in 1982, Jordan joined the NBA’s Chicago Bulls in 1984. He quickly grew as a league star, entertaining crowds     6     his plentiful scoring. His leaping ability earned him the nickname “Air Jordan”. He also gained a reputation for being one of the best defensive     7    （play）in basketball. In 1991, he won his first NBA championship with the Bulls, and followed that achievement with titles in 1992 and 1993, securing a “three-peat”. Although Jordan suddenly retired from basketball at the beginning of the 1993-1994 NBA season to pursue a career in baseball, he rejoined the Bulls in 1995 and led them to three     8    （addition） championships（1996, 1997 and 1998）as well as an NBA-record 72 regular-season wins in the 1995-1996 NBA season. Ten years ago, Qieyang Shijie gained the honor of being the first Tibetan athlete     1     (win) an Olympic medal after claiming a bronze in the women’s 20km race walking at the 2012 London Olympics. She is now ready to turn that medal into gold after three Russian athletes had     2     (they) results overturned owing to doping (服兴奋剂).

The Athletics Integrity Unit said on Monday that race walker Yelena Lashmanova had been stripped (剥夺) of her Olympic gold medal for the event. In 2016, Olga Kaniskina, who won the silver medal, also had her results canceled because of doping.

The International Olympic Committee     3     (official) changed the results based on the     4     (punish) in June 2020, elevating Qieyang Shijie to silver medalist, and her fellow teammates Liu Hong to third place and Lyu Xiuzhi to fourth. Monday’s placings still need confirmation by the IOC and World Athletics.

After hearing the news, Qieyang Shijie thought it was     5     (surprise) news and she expressed mixed feelings on her Sina Weibo microblog account. “It’s been 10 years. When     6     (inform) that I’d won the Olympic championship this way, I was both happy and sad,” she said. “I feel happy that I can become the champion in my heart. But I feel upset at     7     same time that I could not get the feeling of being a champion. I did not get the aura (气氛) of being an Olympic champion. Although the aura is temporary, I still want to have the aura of that moment. However, past is past.”

Qieyang Shijie,     8     birthplace is Qinghai province’s Haibei Tibetan autonomous prefecture (地区),     9     (select) to become a member of the national race walking team when she was 20 years old. She is now training in Italy     10     this year’s World Championships in July and the Asian Games in September.

Gail Devers, an American athlete and also a three-time Olympic gold medalist in track and field, got her first one in 1992.     1     made Devers’ win so special was not just the nature of the race but also the journey she had taken     2     (get) there.

She also says, “My Graves’ disease has made me who I am. Therefore, I always tell people that if I had my life to live over, I would ask for this disease again,” she says. “I believe I’m stronger at     8     (have) to go through what I went through. Everybody is faced     9     challenges. We all feel like sometimes walls are closing in on us     10     there’s no way out. What do you do? You remember that strength and resilience that you have when you step on the line.
