Nowadays, more and more people have taken part in voluntary work, that is a sign of social progress. There are many different kind of voluntary activities students can participate. For instance, they can work as volunteers in a library or a book store if they were fond of reading or they can go to the nursing home to help the elderly. As the saying goes, the fragrance always stay in the hand that gives the rose. Being volunteers is of great benefit to students, give them a sense of an achievement when they are helping others. By doing voluntary work, students realize the importance of social work and enhance their social responsibility. Therefore, not all the voluntary activities are suitable for students. It is to say, the activities should be safe and easily to conduct.

Last Saturday, my community organised charity donation drive. The program named Make a Difference with Your Pre-loved, called on citizens to give away their pre-loved item to students in need. A desk was set up and slogans are put up in the community early in the morning to collect the things which would be sent them to the charity center. Within hours, donating things began to accumulate but some of us volunteered to get them sorted and packed. It was not until 5:00 pm when the activity came to an end with great succeed. At the turn of the school year, this timely help will certain make the day of those in need and make it easier with them to get through this term.

I think there should be a specially festival for teenagers in China calling Teenager Volunteer Day. As is known to all, most teenagers in China are bring up as the only child in the family. Usually given too much care and attention, and they are likely to take everything for granted. In Teenager Volunteer Day, teenagers are encouraged to do voluntary works wherever they are needed. They may help to raise money for those which suffer from a serious disease, go to a nursing home to do what is good for the elderly or collecting books for children in poor areas. The more voluntary work they do, more considerate and responsible you will be.

The Student Union is going to hold a party in Saturday evening, August 15, to welcome my friends from the United States. The party will be hold in the roof garden of the Main Building. It will begin at 7:30 p.m. There will have music, dancing, singing, games and exchange of gift. Everybody may bring a small gift on this purpose. Remember to wrap it up, sign your name and write a few words of good wish.

Don’t forget: 7:30, Saturday evening, roof garden, Main Building. There is sure to be a lot of fun. Everybody is welcomed.

How are things with you? I've got a great news for you. A Traditional Chinese Culture Fair is to be hold by our school at the Art Center this Friday afternoon, that lasts from 2pm to 5pm.

Since this event aims help more people learn about the traditional Chinese culture, the staff, all the students and their parents were welcome. At the fair, related books, pictures, videos and object will be exhibited. Thus, visitors will not only understand the traditional Chinese culture much better but also feels the unique beauty of them.

Last weekend a sports meeting hold in our school was unforgettable. Our class attended the opening parade, for what our class had made a lot of preparations. Our parade took in the shape of the letter “V”, which indicated victory for us. To our excitement, our parade performance was great success. After the parade, the games started. My classmates attended various event such as running, high jump and long jump. Due to the hard training we had done before, their performances were particular impressive. On the stand, we applauded and cheer for the athletes, some raising their cameras to capture the excited moments. Finally, the result was announced. It was amazing that our class was won first place. Our efforts paid off!

I am Liu Ying, a high school student. Our school is built 50 years ago. It is very beautifully as you can find many of tall trees, flowers and green grass here. I am very proud of learn in such a school. However, it’s a pity that there is a lot of rubbishes at some corners. I think we can do anything. First, we must know the important of keeping the school clean. Beside, we should spend some time clean up every corner of the school every day. Last, we must remember that no matter where we find rubbish, it is our duty pick it up and put it into rubbish cans.

Last month, our school organized an activity called "Green Travel, Start with Mine". My classmates and I were deep interested. Everyone expressed their willingness to participate. After get home, I talked to my parents about my idea. They were supportive and said they wouldn't drive work from the next day. On the following weeks, as we promised, my parents went to work by bus, and I go to school on foot every day. Since we were tired, we all felt happy. Last Friday, a class meeting was held as the scheduled. Some parents were invited, including my father and mother. We shared our thoughts during the activities. I suggested that we should take effect measures to protect the environment.

There are many people who wants to protect the environment but don’t know that should be done. Here are a few tips that can help you lighten the burden on the heavily polluting earth.

Don’t leave any electrical appliance (电器) on careless if you are not using it. It can contributed to saving energy. In addition, recycle cans, bottles, plastic bags and newspapers if circumstances allow us to. Finally and the most importantly, be an educator. Talk with both your family and friends about global warming or let them be aware the importance of protecting the environment. Please remember that everyone contribution counts when it comes to creating a greener world.
