Housing officials say that lately they are noticing something different: students seem to lack the will, and the skill, to address ordinary conflicts. “We have students who are mad at each other and they text each other in the same room, ” says a teacher. “So many of our conflicts are because kids don’t know how to tackle a problem by formal discussion. ”
And as any pop psychologist will tell you, bottled emotions lead to silent discontent that can boil over into frustration and anger. At the University of Florida, emotional conflicts occur about once a week, the university’s director of housing education says. . “Over the past five years, roommate conflicts have increased. The students don’t have the person- to-person discussions and they don’t know how to handle them.” The problem is most dramatic among freshmen; housing professionals say they see improvement as students move toward graduation, but some never seem to catch on, and they worry about how such students will deal with conflicts after college.
Administrators guess that reliance on cell phones and the Internet may have made it easier for young people to avoid uncomfortable encounters. Why express anger in person when you can vent in a text? “Things are posted on someone’s wall on Facebook like: Oh, my roommate kept me up all night studying, ” says Dana Pysz, an assistant director at the University of California, Los Angeles. “It’s a different way to express their conflict to each other, consequently creating even more conflicts as complaints go public. ” In recent focus groups at North Carolina State University, dorm residents said they would not even confront noisy neighbors on their floor.
Administrators point to parents who have fixed their children’s problems in their entire lives. Now in college, the children lack the skills to attend to even modest conflicts. Some parents continue to interfere on campus.

Thanksgiving falls on the fourth Thursday of November in the US. This year, Thanksgiving in the US falls on Nov 21. But, in Canada, the festival has always been on the second Monday of October, the season for maple (枫叶).
There is, however, some debate as to when Canada’s first Thanksgiving actually happened. Some claim it started in 1578 when English explorer Martin Frobisher landed in the Canadian Arctic. But others believe it was created by French navigator (航海家) Samuel de Champlain in 1604, who liked to keep his crew happy by throwing harvest parties.
Either way, the Canadian version of Thanksgiving isn’t as big a deal as it is in the US. “It is,” according to Sara Levasseur at McGill Daily, “less noticeable, like many Canadian things”. It’s basically just a simple holiday, little more than a celebration of the harvest.
There are no presidential pardons (总统特赦) of turkeys, no parades and no American football. It is “celebrated most typically with a plentiful stuffed-turkey meal and other seasonal indulgences (当季美食), as well as a genuine appreciation for all that Canada has to offer”, said HuffPost.
“Canada’s Thanksgiving is often seen as a time to simply relax and eat good food,” Levasseur writes. “It is more of a subtle (微妙的) feeling, like long drives home on tree-lined roads. It’s the feeling of home.”

Despite this, these creatures frequently appear as characters in literature, films and television programmes. Below are some of the most well-known mythical creatures, which you may talk about when telling bedtime stories.
Yetis: There are many stories about sightings of a large, hairy creature that lives in the snow-covered mountains of the Himalayas. It is said to resemble a giant ape and walk like a man. Many scientists have visited the Himalayas in search of this giant creature, and though they have never seen a yeti, many people claim to have seen huge footprints in the snow. Due to the cold and dangerous conditions in the mountains, it is impossible for humans to explore there for long, so it is difficult to know what creatures may live there. See also Bigfoot a similar creature from North America.
Phoenixes: The phoenix is a bird that is said to be the size of an eagle and to have colourful feathers. Many stories report that the phoenix lives a long life and that once it grows old it will make a nest and set itself on fire. After the phoenix’s body has been consumed by the flames, it will be born again from the ashes. It is thought to represent the Sun, which sets every evening and rises again each morning. Stories of the phoenix are found in countries throughout Africa, Europe, Asia and the Middle East.
Mermaids: A mermaid is a creature that lives in the sea. The upper part of a mermaid’s body is human while the lower part is a fish’s tail. Stories of mermaids have been around for thousands of years and exist in many cultures. In British stories, mermaids are often portrayed as evil creatures that give sailors false information leading to their deaths. There are, however, many stories showing mermaids as beautiful creatures that help humans at sea. Some people believe stories of mermaids were made up by sailors who saw sea mammals such as dolphins.

David Strayer is a professor of psychology at the University of Utah. He claims that camping may be just what a tech-tired brain needs. His argument finds strong support from Carl and Kate, two experienced campers. Carl, who works for a mobile phone company, says that being outdoors makes him feel relaxed. It also prepares him for the work he must do. “Camping gives us a chance to be in touch with nature and it’s very relaxing. When you return to work on Monday, you’re in a better state of mind. I really like the way I feel on Monday. Kate is a senior editor. She says camping brings her some peace she couldn’t have otherwise. She even finds herself more creative.”
David Strayer explains that camping allows close contact with nature and being in nature calms the brain and helps it to focus. When people go camping, they need to learn about animals and natural environments; they have to deal with the weather, learn to stay dry in the rain or warm in the snow and have to keep the feet in good condition when hiking and walking.
Some might say that taking a long walk in the woods or by the ocean or in a city park is wonderful, too. But camping requires that one spend more time in nature and it can test him in different ways. And it brings more health benefit as well.

An unnamed male student from Nanjing University said he will try first-tier cities only if he can get a high salary.“I would go to Beijing only if I can earn 200,000 yuan a year,”he said.
“Beijing,Shanghai and Guangzhou once had the advantages that other cities don’t have, but the high housing prices and living costs make young people barely able to breathe,”said Ren Leiming from the job service center of Jiangsu’s colleges and universities.

The group said it was unfair and unacceptable that the student and her 18-year-old classmate at Spring Valley High School who taped the incident were the only people charged that day when authorities already knew Richland County Deputy Ben Fields had tossed the girl from her desk to the ground.
They also said their petition had hundreds of thousands of names from around the country asking prosecutor Dan Johnson to drop the "disturbing schools" charges against the teens. The students in the case are black; Fields is white.
Johnson issued a statement Wednesday saying he won't do anything with the case until the FBI finishes its investigation into Fields, who was fired after the video became public. "I do not simply decide cases based upon feelings, public opinion or sentiment, nor do I decide them based on political pressure," Johnson said in the statement.
Disturbing schools is punishable by a fine of up to $1,000 or 90 days in jail. The students' lawyer did not respond to telephone messages.
The video spread quickly across the country, prompting questions about when police officers should get involved with classroom discipline. Fields was called to the classroom after the student refused to stop using her cellphone, and then she would not leave the classroom for a teacher or administrator.
In the days after the incident, the teacher turned her class over to a substitute and the administrator was placed on leave. Richland two officials didn't respond to an email asking about their current status. The students were allowed back in school.
Organizers of the protest said they plan to be at South Carolina's Statehouse next year, calling for legislators to change the law that allows police officers to arrest students for misbehaving at schools. Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott blamed that law for escalating the situation. "Let's find a way where we don't saddle students with arrest records," said EfiaNwangaza from the Malcom X Center for Self Determination. "Let's get ahead of the schoolhouse-to-jailhouse train in South Carolina."

Recall, The first step is to recall the wrongdoing in an objective way. The goal is not to think of the person in a negative light, but to come to a clear understanding of the wrong that was done.
Empathize. Try to understand the other person’s point of view regarding why he or she hurt you, but don’t minimize the wrong that was done. Sometimes the wrongdoing was not personal, but due to something the other person was dealing with.
Altruistic gift. This step is about addressing your own shortcomings. Recall a time when you treated someone unkindly and were forgiven.
Commit. Commit yourself to forgiveness. For instance, write about your forgiveness in a journal or a letter that you don’t send or tell a friend.

Have you ever argued with a friend and said or done something you regretted?
Why do we argue?
We argue for all kinds of reasons. For example, you might think your football team is fantastic, but your friend disagrees, or you don’t want someone to join in your game. Sometimes, especially if you are angry, things can become out of control, and you’ll say or do something you regret.
What does saying sorry mean?
We all make mistakes, and apologizing is a way of admitting we’ve got something wrong and will try not to do it again.
Sometimes another person may pressure you into taking the blame when it has nothing to do with you. If you feel this is happening, try talking about why you argued in the first place and explain how it made you feel. If you still can’t agree, you could ask a parent or teacher to help you resolve the problem.
Does apologizing always work?
A genuine apology is a magic word. It may take time for someone to understand and forgive.
A.What if it’s not my fault |
B.How should we apologize to others |
C.Try it again if you fail to get others’ forgiveness |
D.Even after you’ve said sorry, you could still feel bad |
E.Arguing and disagreeing with others occasionally is normal |
F.It may be hard to say sorry, but if you want to make something better you must try |
