A 63-year-old Chinese grandpa’s traditional carpentry skills are delighting tens of millions of viewers online as he creates woodwork without glue, screws or nails.
The Chinese master carpenter, Wang Dewen, known as “Grandpa Amu” on YouTube, has been honored as the modern day Lu Ban, a famous Chinese structural engineer during the Zhou Dynasty, thanks to his vast carpentry knowledge. One of his videos, which shows him making a fantastic wooden arch bridge, went viral on the platform, gaining more than 42 million views.
Grandpa Amu follows an ancient Chinese technique, which means no nails or glue are involved in the entire process of building the arch bridge. Grandpa Amu has also made several wooden toys for his grandson using the same technique. He created a folding stool (凳子) that looked like the China pavilion from the 2010 Shanghai Expo. “A block of wood transforms into a stool. Genius,” a YouTube user named Rey commented under the video.
Li Ziqi, who lives in a picturesque village of southwest China’s Sichuan Province, has made a name for herself by making various Chinese dishes on YouTube since 2016. In her videos, she gracefully works as a farmer, impressing viewers with her understanding of food, nature and Chinese culture while showcasing the charm of Chinese culture in every detail of daily life. Her traditional food preparation craft and Chinese rural lifestyle have attracted 11.1 million subscribers on YouTube. Just like Li Ziqi, Grandpa Amu is also trying to spread unique Chinese techniques to the world.
Grandpa Amu’s son and daughter-in-law now work full time on his videos, hoping that the channel’s popularity would help local villagers better sell their farm produce.“ We came up with the idea of making the videos because we wanted to bring our rural culture to others and let people learn about these ancient Chinese techniques,” said Huang Chunmei, Grandpa Amu’s daughter-in-law, in an interview with South China Morning Post. In my opinion, going to a restaurant in Brazil will rarely be an embarrassing situation. But there are some basic and necessary rules of etiquette (礼节) that Brazilians usually respect every day. They are:
●Being on time is polite, but it is not a strict rule in Brazil. Being late for up to 15 minutes probably will not make a Brazilian angry.
●When you go to a restaurant, be careful to greet the people who work at the place, and don't forget to greet the people who are already waiting for you at the table. It's not necessary to hug or kiss everybody if they are already seated.
●You can ask somebody about how the food is prepared and also about prices or tips if you are not sure about them.
●You should never talk to another person while you still have some food in your mouth.
●Making noise while eating is also considered really rude. Avoid doing it.
●Be careful not to put your elbows on the table while eating. It is not terrible, but it can be considered a little bit rude by some people.
●Don't worry about the time. Usually people in Brazil stay seated for a long time, especially when they have interesting things to talk about.
●It's not necessary to talk in a really low voice because people there usually talk in a little loud voice.
●Finally, saying “thank you” and “bye” are always common in Brazil.

The new guidelines on physical activity, sedentary (久坐的) behaviour and sleep for children under 5 years of age were developed by a WHO panel of experts. They assessed the effects of inadequate (不足的) sleep on young children, and time spent sitting watching screens or restrained (被限制) in chairs and prams. They also reviewed evidence around the benefits of increased activity levels.
Failure to meet current physical activity recommendations is responsible for more than 5 million deaths globally each year across all age groups. Currently, over 23% of adults and 80% of adolescents are not sufficiently physically active. If healthy physical activity, sedentary behaviour and sleep habits are established early in life, this helps shape habits through childhood, adolescence and into adulthood.
“What we really need to do is bring back play for children,” says Dr Juana Willumsen, who focuses on childhood obesity and physical activity. “This is about making the shift from sedentary time to playtime, while protecting sleep.”
The pattern of overall 24-hour activity is key: replacing sedentary screen time with more active play, while making sure young children get enough good-quality sleep. Quality time spent in interactive non-screen-based activities with a caregiver, such as reading, storytelling, singing and puzzles, is very important for child development.
The important interactions between physical activity, sedentary hehaviour and adequate sleep time, and their impact on physical and mental health and well-being, were fully recognized, which called for clear guidance on physical activity, sedentary behaviour and sleep in young children.
Applying the recommendations in these guidelines during the first five years of life will contribute to children’s motor and cognitive development and lifelong health.

A 69-year-old grandmother with no teeth of her own has eventually won a long legal battle to stop a Scottish regional council (政务委员会) adding fluoride(氟化物) chemical to the public water supply.
In a case which has already cost the taxpayer £1,000,000, the judge ruled that it was beyond the powers of the local authority to add the chemical to the water in order to reduce tooth decay.
At her home last night Mrs Catherine fluoride to public drinking water made it into some kind of dirty soup. “Where would it stop?” she asked. “They might come up with the idea of putting drugs into the water to keep the unemployed quiet.” It was a horrible poison, she said, that could have caused al kinds of diseases, including cancer.
The judge, however, concluded that there was no evidence to suggest that the inclusion of fluoride in the water supply would have had a negative effect on pulpier health. Although the chemical might serve as an efficient and convenient means of achieving a beneficial effect on the dental health of consumers generally, he said, and its use was greatly favored by the dental profession. He could also understand why some members of the public, Mrs McColl in particular, might be passionately opposed to the action of the Water Authority in assuming the right to improve public well-being without consulting the public in the first case. The Authority’s legal duty to provide “wholesome” water for public consumption which was both safe and pleasant to drink, did not, he said, extend to their right to safeguard public health by chemical means.
