Years ago, I had to travel a lot as part of work. Locked in my depressing world then, I lived as a robot working in a mechanical way every day.

On one of my work trips, I went to take a bus downtown as usual. Unexpectedly, there was a beautifully landscaped space that I had never seen before. The bus came along but I let it go past because I wanted more time to enjoy the landscape. Finally, the next bus approached and I got on that one.

After a while, a boy carrying lots of bags was seated next to me. Watching how he was accommodating his stuff, I was thinking how annoyed he must be at having to manage so much stuff. Just then, he gave me the most sincere smile I had seen from a stranger. He said "Hi! The perfect day in the perfect place, huh?" "Perfect day!" I answered, distracted by his shining smile and started to chat with him.

"Homeless since 10 years old, I lived on the street, but I've been lucky because I've known many people who have been kind to me." He said simply. Hearing this, I couldn't say a word. "Now I'm on my way to the army school where my deceased grandfather studied a long time ago." He smiled and told me for 10 years he had only one thing on his mind, to join the army like his grandpa. "I will follow my dream and every day I will be happy." He said calmly.

At this point, the bus had reached his stop. Taking his luggage, he waved goodbye to me with a big smile. Choked up with emotion, I forced a smile and shook his hands tightly. Never would I have imagined such a young homeless boy could change my perspective towards life during one short bus ride. From then on, whatever I encountered, I always try to do everything with my best smile on my face.

文章大意:这是一篇记叙文。主要讲述了一个名叫勒孔特的法国人在黄山追求理想生活的故事。

【推荐1】After walking for nearly 10 kilometers by China’s Huangshan Mountain, and just as he was on the edge of giving up, Phil Lecomte caught sight of a beautiful village.

This moment took place 14 years ago, when the Frenchman traveled to a small town at the foot of the mountain with his camera and backpack. In 1999, Lecomte traveled to China for the first time. He says that the vast lands and beautiful scenery of China, including mountains, rivers, ancient villages and terraced fields (梯田), are things he never forgets. In 2009,he traveled to Huangshan Mountain in Anhui province, a place that changed his life.

In 2012, Lecomte became a tour guide. Unlike other guides, he rarely takes his guests to the most popular attractions. Instead, he searches for unknown scenery in the surrounding area.

Lecomte often hikes or rides a motorcycle with his friends to find hidden scenery scattered around Huangshan Mountain. He enjoys time spent camping and hiking with his Chinese and foreign friends. They sing and play the ukulele by clear streams, chat with locals herding cattle or picking tea, and fall asleep to the sounds of frogs.

Lecomte has taken more than 118,000 photos in China to date. He still has a photo of his childhood home. A house with a red roof is reflected in the clear lake, surrounded by forests, like a picturesque oil painting. “When I was a child, I loved camping in this forest with my friends. 文章大意:这是一篇记叙文,文章讲述了母亲Lorna和儿子Sivert Klefsaas打赌,让儿子远离社交媒体的事情。

【推荐2】If someone said they’d pay you $1,800 to stay off social media for six years, would you do it? Could you? Sivert Klefsaas did just that.

In 2016, Lorna Goldstrand Klefsaas challenged her 12-year-old son Sivert to stay off social media until he was 18. If he completed the challenge, she’d award him the cash on his eighteenth birthday. On February 19, 2022, Sivert claimed his prize.

Lorna once listened to a radio program called the “16 for 16”, where a mother gave her daughter $1,600 when she turned 16 if she stayed off social media. She decided to up the ante (提价) to two extra years and $200 more.

Sivert said it wasn’t too difficult to live without social media, and he didn’t think about it much during the six years. As a 12-year-old, Sivert said he wasn’t using social media much anyway. “I got to avoid all the unnecessary drama that was on there,” Sivert said. Lorna said she never had to check for any sneakily (偷偷地) downloaded apps. “He’s so competitive; it was definitely more for proving a point,” she said. “It also meant he had more time to focus on his grades and sports instead.”

After Sivert’s success, Lorna took to Facebook to share the challenge. She said it was some of the best money she ever spent. Other parents have seemed interested in trying it out too.

“We are certainly not against social media, but it’s the healthy using of it,” Lona noted. “It’s about not letting yourself get weighed down by (被……拖累) it, or addicted to it, or affected by things that people post.”

Sivert is the youngest of four children, and his three older sisters all used social media growing up. Lorna said there were times she felt her daughters “got too engrossed (沉迷的)” in their apps and feeds. “Social media was affecting their mood, their friendships and was kind of a depressant (镇静剂),” she said. When one of her daughters was 16, Lorna took away her phone because of it. Lorna says her daughter later thanked her for doing so, as it improved her mood.

3. What was the reaction of other parents to Lorna’s action?
A.They thought it was worth promoting.
B.They tended to follow her example.

【推荐3】A policeman was questioning 3 blondes who were training to become detectives. To test their skills in recognizing a suspect, he shows the first blonde a picture for5 seconds and then hides it.
“This is your suspect, how would you recognize him?"
The first blonde answers, "That's easy, we'll catch him fast because he only has one eye!" The policeman says, "Well...uh...that's because the picture shows his profile."
Slightly confused by this ridiculous response, he flashes the picture for 5 seconds at the second blonde and asks her, "This is your suspect, how would you recognize him?"
The second blonde giggles, flips her hair and says, "Ha! He'd be too easy to catch because he only has one ear!"
The policeman angrily responds, "What's the matter with you two? Of course only one eye and one ear are SHOWING because it's a picture of his profile!! Is that the best answer you can come up with?"
Extremely frustrated at this point, he shows the picture to the third blonde and in a very testy voice asks "This is your suspect, how would you recognize him?" He quickly adds, "Think hard before giving me a stupid answer."
