Richard Wright was born on September 4, 1908. He was a pioneering African American writer who was best known for the classic     1     (story) Black Boy and Native Son.

Schooled in Mississippi, Wright only got a ninth-grade education, but he was a passionate and     2     (energy) reader and showed early on that he had a way with words.
