Five tiny Pacific islands have disappeared due to rising seas and erosion(冲蚀), Australian researchers say.

There were no     1    (human) who lived on the five missing islands, part of the Solomon Archipelago. The islands were     2    (occasional) used by fishermen. But six other islands     3    (believe) to have seen lots of land turn into sea, destroying entire villages. One of the six islands is Nuatambu Island,     4     is home to 25 families.

According to the researchers, the Solomon Archipelago     5    (see) sea levels rise as much as 10 mm every year in the past twenty years. However, the report stresses that the current situation doesn’t result     6     rising sea levels alone. Erosion of the shoreline makes the situation worse. The Solomon Islands,     9    (make) up of hundreds of islands and with a population of about 640,000, lie about 1,000 miles northeast of Australia. The US is paying the price for launching a trade war.
