Day 1:Arrive into Sorong and Meet Your Fellow Travellers

After your flight arrives into the West Papuan port town of Sorong, you will be met at the airport and sent to the Swiss Belhotel in Sorong for one night. Here, you will have a welcome dinner and meet some experts.

Day 2:Search for the Small Birds of Paradise

Today we will try our best to help you view small birds of paradise (天堂) displaying in the wild. It is an unforgettable experience for anyone lucky enough to see them. You will rise around 4 a. m. and have a quick breakfast and go ashore at Kapatcol, where local guides will be waiting to take you through the forest to hopefully see the birds as they dance around in the trees.

Day 3:Southern Halmahera

When you wake up today, you will find yourself off the extreme southern tip of Halmahera near the islands of Djoronga and Damar, where you will visit an ancient village before heading off later in the day for Bacan.

Day 4:Explore Ternate Before Departure

Today marks the end of your adventure, but first you will head into the city, which is the only one where the ancient Sultanate has survived without being disturbed. You will visit Fort Toluko built by the Portuguese. After your tour, you will travel back to the boat and say goodbye to the crew before we take you to the airport for your onward journey.

【推荐2】Located about 10 km northeast of the city center, the Chengdu Panda Base is a popular place to see lots of pandas of different ages in what’s close to their natural habitat.

Highlights and Travel Tips

The Chengdu Panda Base is a nonprofit research and breeding (繁殖) facility for giant pandas that was originally founded in 1987 and opened to the public in 1993. The center began with a population of just six giant pandas and has since grown to more than 100 pandas.

For visitors, it is more like a nice park than a traditional zoo. The base is large and nice to walk around, since much of it is in a bamboo forest. There are also shops selling panda-related souvenirs, but the prices are usually higher than markets or shops outside the base.

Accessibility Information

While the main road is flat, the base is large, so it is better for visitors with mobility issues to ride the shuttle (往返) bus. Visitors who completely rely on wheelchairs may need help from others to guide. Most restrooms within the base are wheelchair accessible.

How to Get There

It takes about a half hour and costs around 30 CNY to get to the Chengdu Panda Base from the city center by taxi. You can also get there by public bus or subway, although these routes require a few transfers.

The White Tower

The first stones of this structure were laid around 1078 by order of William the Conqueror. Its mighty walls are now home to displays from the Royal armouries (铠甲) including original armours worn by Henry VIII and Charles I plus a reconstructed display of massive collection of weapons once housed in the Grand Storehouse.

Ravens

The Ravens are one of the Tower’s most famous sights. These magnificent birds have lived within its walls for hundreds of years and legend has it that, if they leave, the kingdom will fall. Look out for these unique guardians around the Tower and make sure you visit their lodgings.

【推荐3】Instructors can use examinations to evaluate student performance in a class. Midterm examination notices and final examination dates and times are published before registering begins.

Midterm examinations are usually held during regularly scheduled class meeting times. However, large classes with multiple sections requiring a common midterm examination can hold examinations outside regular class meeting times with the following restrictions:

●Notice of out-of-class midterm examination dates and times must be published in the Schedule of Classes and on MyUCLA before registration begins.

●Instructors must include out-of-class midterm examination dates in the course outline.

Final examinations are generally held in the same rooms as class meetings; however, by prior arrangement with the Registrar’s Office, common final examinations can be scheduled, and additional room locations may be booked. Final examination locations are displayed on Monday of the ninth week of the term in the Schedule of Classes and in MyUCLA. It is the student’s responsibility to make sure the final examination times do not conflict by checking the Schedule of Classes.

The instructor’’s methods of evaluation must be announced at the beginning of the course. Final written examinations may not surpass three hours’ length and are given only at the times and places established and published by the department chair and the registrar.

Instructors must submit grades no later than 10 days after the last day of finals for fall, winter, and spring terms, and no later than 10 days after the last day of any given summer session.
