There is a saying that when life gives you lemons, you should make lemonade. But what if you are in     1     town on the French Riviera and life gives you extraordinarily delicious lemons? You sell them at high prices, of course! Then you have a big festival. Well, that’s     2     the city of Menton does anyway.

During this celebration, there are parades of floats, interspersed (点缀) with marching bands and costumed     3     (entertainer), just like any other carnival parade. But there’s one big     4     (different) — all of the floats     5     (make) of lemons and oranges. It’s an all-natural and refreshing change. But the real show-stopper is the exhibition of huge fruit sculptures in the Biovès Gardens. Some of these figures can be up to 10 metres tall.

First held in Menton, France in 1934, the festival is held every year     6     (celebrate) the coming of spring. It is spread over a couple of weeks,     7     (typical) near the end of February. During the festival, about 300 designers and builders spend several weeks     8     (create) structures with lemons and oranges     9     (base) on a particular theme. Berck-sur-Mer is a little gem of a seaside resort in the North of France. The sandy beaches run for 12 kilometers, making the city     1     ideal location for sand yachters and kite flyers. The tourist season there begins in April with the International Kite Festival, the largest and     2    (influence) kite-themed event in France.

The festival this year from April 20 to 28 is     3    (unprecedented) anticipated, as China will become the guest country of honor. It’s the first time that the festival     4    (introduce) the concept of guest countries since its establishment in 1987. The China Cultural Center in Paris will join hands with Weifang city —known as the “kite capital of the world” —    5    (showcase) authentic Chinese kite art to the audience.
