The village of Yucun, located in Anji County of east China’s Zhejiang Province, is often referred to as a “beautiful town” as its     4     (environmental)conscious (有……意识的) local authorities treasure the area’s clear waters and green mountains. Back in the 1980s and 1990s, the village based its economy     5     the area’s high-quality mineral resources and became the     6     (rich) community in Anji, but it also paid     7     high price for pollution. In recent years, Yucun has made the effort     8     (improve) its environment and by now it has become a popular tourist destination.

Xidi,     9     unique, elegant black tile (瓦片) roof wooden houses and decorative gate towers are well-known, is located just 40 km from the Huangshan tourist attraction. Xidi ranks among China’s ten most important historic and cultural     10     (center).

My family and I travelled across the North American continent in two weeks. We started from Vancouver,     1    we picked up our vehicle for the trip. We got    2    (lose) because Dad had no sense of direction, but eventually we managed    3    (cross) the Rocky Mountains, where there were beautiful forests, mountains with snowy tops and     4    (mass) of ice. We    5    (reach) Quebec on the    6    (eight) day, when the funniest thing happened. While I was sleeping, Dad stopped for some petrol, and Mum got out to take photos. Then Dad came back and drove on, not realizing Mom wasn’t in the car, and you can guess the rest...In     7    (celebrate) of the end of our journey, we went on a boat trip. When we saw something     8    (amaze) — a killer whale. Mum was    9    excited that she dropped Dad’s phone into the sea that she used to take photos. This time it was Dad’s turn to get mad. What    10    exciting trip!

Potala Palace (布达拉宫) is the highest ancient palace in the world. The palace,     1     (name) after a holy hill, is said to be used for greeting a Han princess. Legend has it that in the 7th century,     2     (greet) his bride Princess Wencheng of the Tang Dynasty, Songtsen Gampo built a palace with a thousand rooms up on the Red Hill and named it Potala. The Palace has two parts, the Red Palace as the center and the White Palace as two wings. The Red Palace is the highest part in the center that is completely devoted to     7     (religion) study. It was painted red to represent power. It consists of different halls and     8    (library)on many levels with winding passages. The White Palace,     9     once served as the office building of local government makes up the living quarters, and     10     (it) wall was painted white to convey peace and calmness.
