As children grow up, they will likely be drawn to participate in sports. But not all children will be interested in or successful at every sports experience. Some children tend to join in team sports while others will prefer individual sports.     1     So how can parents help their child pick a most suitable sport? Here’s How:

    2

A child’s interest in a given sport is the best determiner of whether he or she will enjoy it as a participant. So expose the child to a wide variety of sports experiences. Talk with them about what they like and dislike about each sport.

    3

As you check out the various sports, see if you can tell which of them seems most interesting to the child. Listen to your child for signs about their preferences. Maybe they will talk about the players, the skills, or they will tell others about the experience. If you watch and listen, you can pick up what interests them most.

Find out: team or individual?

Some children will prefer to participate in a team sport like football, baseball or basketball in which they play a role in a team.     4     Sports like these include swimming, tennis or golf. Or they may simply enjoy individual sports like cycling and gymnastics. As you observe your child, try to find out what their preferences are.     5

A.Watch out for signs of enthusiasm.
B.Expose the child to a variety of sports.
C.Match the sport to your child’s body type.
D.Some body types are better suited to some sports than others.
E.Others will prefer being on a team where their own skills matter most.
F.Make sure that the child has a physical exam before participating in sports actively.
G.These observations will help you focus on the sport that will work best for your child.

【推荐1】Everyone at some time feels that their life is going nowhere. Have you reached a plateau where things are ok, but not very exciting? Do you feel that ok is not good enough?     1     Here’s how you can make your life better and more enjoyable.

Make a daily plan.

Do you wake up in the morning with a strong feeling of something unpleasant because there is just so much to get done?     2     A few minutes spent making a list will prevent you from forgetting something important, and will help you prioritize (优先处理) your tasks.

    3

Being negative damages your quality of life. Stop being a defeatist and start being an optimist. Changing the way you think will bring greater happiness and make your quality of life considerably better. ‘Can do’ is a fantastic motto for life. Why not buy a t-shirt with ‘YES I CAN’ on the front?

Create a gratitude list.

4     And making a list helps to concentrate your mind on these positives. Allow yourself a few minutes to think about your life and identify the good things. Make the list detailed, so, for example, when you say you love your garden, single out a particular plant or tree that you especially appreciate.

Contact a loved one.

If you have a loved one who brightens your day when you speak to them, give them a call. It is easy to let days and weeks go by without making contact. You will feel better for making contact.     5

A.Develop a positive thinking habit.
B.Believe that you can do everything.
C.Everyone has things to be grateful for.
D.You will also feel much more positive after talking to them.

【推荐3】Students who say they never or hardly ever used dictionaries may speak English well but usually write poorly, because they make many mistakes.
The students who use dictionaries most do not learn especially well either. The ones who look up every new word do not read fast. Therefore they do not have time to read much. Those who use small two-language dictionaries have the worst problems. Their dictionaries often give only one or two words as translations of English. But one English word often has many translations in a foreign language and one foreign word has many translations in English.
The most successful students are those who use large college edition dictionaries with about 100,000 words but do not use them too often. When they are reading, these students first try to get the general idea and understand new words from the context. Then they reread and use the dictionary to look up only key words that they still do not understand. They use dictionaries more for writing. If they are not sure how to spell a word, they always use a dictionary. Also, if they think a noun might have an unusual plural form, they check this in a dictionary.
