As children grow up, they will likely be drawn to participate in sports. But not all children will be interested in or successful at every sports experience. Some children tend to join in team sports while others will prefer individual sports.
A child’s interest in a given sport is the best determiner of whether he or she will enjoy it as a participant. So expose the child to a wide variety of sports experiences. Talk with them about what they like and dislike about each sport.
As you check out the various sports, see if you can tell which of them seems most interesting to the child. Listen to your child for signs about their preferences. Maybe they will talk about the players, the skills, or they will tell others about the experience. If you watch and listen, you can pick up what interests them most.
Find out: team or individual?
Some children will prefer to participate in a team sport like football, baseball or basketball in which they play a role in a team.

The students who use dictionaries most do not learn especially well either. The ones who look up every new word do not read fast. Therefore they do not have time to read much. Those who use small two-language dictionaries have the worst problems. Their dictionaries often give only one or two words as translations of English. But one English word often has many translations in a foreign language and one foreign word has many translations in English.
The most successful students are those who use large college edition dictionaries with about 100,000 words but do not use them too often. When they are reading, these students first try to get the general idea and understand new words from the context. Then they reread and use the dictionary to look up only key words that they still do not understand. They use dictionaries more for writing. If they are not sure how to spell a word, they always use a dictionary. Also, if they think a noun might have an unusual plural form, they check this in a dictionary.

The 10,000 steps a day target seems to have come about from a trade name pedometer sold in 1965 by Yamasa Clock in Japan. The device was called "Manpo-kei", which translates to "10,000 steps meter". This was a marketing tool for the device and has seemed to have stuck across the world as the daily step target. It's even included in daily activity targets by popular smart-watches, such as Fitbit.
In ancient Rome, distances were actually measured by counting steps. In fact, the word "mile" originated from the Latin phrase mila passum, which means about 2,000 steps. It's suggested the average person walks about 100 steps per minute, which would mean it would take a little under 20 minutes for the average person to walk a mile. So in order for someone to reach the 10,000-step goal, they would need to walk about five miles a day, nearly two hours of activity.
Researchers have investigated the 10,000 steps a day target. The fact that some studies have shown this step target improves heart health, mental health, and even lowers diabetes (糖尿病) risk, may, to some extent, explain why we have stuck with this number.
But while some research has shown health benefits at 10,000 steps, recent research from Harvard Medical School has shown that, on average, nearly 4,400 steps a day is enough to significantly lower the risk of death in women. This was when compared to only walking around 2,700 steps daily. The more steps people walked, the lower their risk of dying was, before leveling off at around 7,500 steps a day. No additional benefits were seen with more steps. Although it's uncertain whether similar results would be seen in men, it's one example of how moving a little bit more daily can improve health and lower risk of death.

A.The more you walk daily, the healthier you will be. |
B.7,500 steps or so a day is the ideal number for women. |
C.To be healthy you'd better walk ten thousand steps. |
D.The number of effective steps is the same for men and women. |

Smart phones can provide music for you and track your route. But experts warn that it’s not a good idea to hold your phone in your hand while you go out for a run because it could cause hip (臀部) and shoulder injuries.
Professional UK Athletics running coach, Alexa, asks runners to carry phones in a fanny pack (腰包) instead.“When you hold something in your hands, there are slightly indirect influences on your pace. It influences the balance of muscles (肌肉), affects the weight of some body parts, and makes you run less fast,” she tells Cosmopolitan UK.“This could be happening every time you train, week after week, month after month.” And as mobile phones get bigger and heavier, the more injuries are likely to happen.
People like to always hold their phones in the same hand. It’s a force of habit. With one arm heavier, your body will try to compensate for the imbalance, by working certain muscles harder than others.
The other risk of running with phones in hand, of course, is damaging the screen of your phones if you fall. It’s very expensive to change a screen. Some of the latest phones can close to $300.
