The Sixty One
The Sixty One is devoted to showcasing obscure or unknown artists of all genres. There’s a range of musical styles from classical to rock and roll, folk to jazz, and everything in between. Don’t expect to find big name musicians on here; you’re more likely to find the musicians playing at local coffee shops than bands you hear on the radio. You can find fantastic music that you never would have heard of otherwise.
Pow Wow
Pow Wows are the Native American people’s way of meeting together, to join in dancing, singing, visiting, renewing old friendships, and making new ones. This is a time method to renew Native American culture and preserve the rich heritage of American Indians. PowWows.com has 2 online radio stations that play Native American Music 24/7 free! Here you can listen to your favorite artists and drum groups on your computer or mobile device and add your music to our station.
Playlist
Playlist has an enormous library, so you can create playlists with almost any musician you can think of. They have both some lesser known artists and big names, so you have a really good selection. The worst part: Due to licensing laws, many of the songs on Playlist are now restricted to certain countries. So unless you live inside the US, it is likely that you might not be able to find all of your favorite songs.
Pandora
Pandora is an intelligent Internet radio site. Basically, as you listen, you can give each song a thumbs up or thumbs down. You can create your own radio station that only plays music you like. A kaleidoscope (万花筒) of heroes
Patriotism and realism reflected in My People, My Country are the top two elements that have won the audiences’ hearts. “In the seven stories in My People, My Country, the protagonists (主角) are no longer the main creators of history,” Zheng Yang, a teacher, said after watching the movie.
“We don’t want to simply sing praises of China’s achievements over the past 70 years; we want to show that all the achievements have been made thanks to the Chinese people’s efforts,” Chen Kaige, told People.com.cn in a video interview.
A miraculous escape
The Captain, directed by Andrew Lau, is based on a real incident.
On May 14, 2018, a Sichuan Airlines flight from Chongqing to Lhasa in southwest China’s Tibet Autonomous Region, made a miraculous escape when a cockpit window broke. It caused a sudden drop in the air pressure inside the aircraft, leading to the co-pilot almost being sucked out. He was saved by his seat belt. The temperature plunged to minus 40 degrees Celsius.
But against great odds, Captain Liu Chuanjian managed to land the plane and keep all 128 onboard safe. It was regarded as a miracle in civil aviation history.
Peak performance
The Climbers, is based on two expeditions (探险) by Chinese climbers to Mt. Qomolangma, the highest mountain in the world.
In 1960, three Chinese climbers, were the first to reach the summit from the dangerous northern side, becoming the first men to do so. However, the feat was not recognized internationally as the team failed to provide any evidence. To vindicate the Chinese climbers, a gigantic team of over 400 members was put together in 1975. During this expedition, nine climbers reached the top. The expedition also measured the height of the peak—8,848.13 meters.

【推荐2】Around July I had made a purchase from a website in the US. My shipment was sent out the very next day, and I expected the package to arrive at my doorstep within 5 to 7 days like before. Two weeks had passed, and I had not received my package. I decided to track it, and to my shock, the courier (快递公司) actually sent my package to a different country!
I didn't know what to do, so I emailed the courier, who told me I had to email the company from which I had made the purchase. Instead of helping me, the company redirected me to the courier. Rather than getting mad at this entire mess, I tried to calm down by focusing on the good things, those like the fact that I even had the money to make the purchase and that the company shipped out the package rather quickly. I also imagined myself receiving the package, which made me happier.
Weeks turning into months, there was still no sign of my package. As I signed up for updates, I was horrified when I woke up one day in September to see that my package had been returned to the US. Instead of getting depressed, I contacted the company to inform them about the shipment and sought advice about what to do next as I really wanted the items which were a limited edition. The customer service told me that they could only offer a full refund (退款) as the items were already sold out. Even though I accepted and was very pleased, there was still a part of me that was slightly disappointed.
Around the end of November, I received a text update that my package has cleared customs in the UK but I thought it had been returned to the company. Yesterday, my package arrived at my doorstep!
While it did take many months for the package to reach me, I felt incredibly grateful as I got what wanted! And for free! This showed me that the universe works in mysterious ways that we can never really understand but it is not our job to worry about how things will unfold.
1. Why was the author shocked soon after making the purchase?A.The delivery took much less time than before. | B.He was informed that his package had been lost. |
C.His package was mistakenly delivered elsewhere. | D.There was a delay in the shipment of his package |
A.He was happy with the company where he made the purchase. |
B.He liked the items so much that refunding couldn't clear regret. |
C.The positive feedback from the company really comforted him. |
D.The courier and the company agreed to return the package to the US. |
A.Thankful. | B.Peaceful. | C.Hurtful. | D.Hopeful. |
A.Good things come to those who wait. | B.Time and tide wait for no man. |
C.Where there is a will, there is a way. | D.Chance only favors the prepared mind. |
【推荐3】To be honest. I’ve been missing the online shopping experience in China since I moved to the US four years ago. So when I noticed Shein becoming mainstream in the US over the past few years, I though, Great! I finally have a Taohao replacement! So I went on my first Shein journey in August 2022.
But somewhere along the way, I started questioning why I enjoy this particular kind of shopping, and also what it means for an e-commerce platform to offer endless deals.
To be fair, there are Shein purchases that I’ve really enjoyed, like a $2 nylon watchband that feels better than my original Apple Watch band. I also think people should be able to choose quantity and price over quality, because the idea of demanding that people only buy premium products feels unrealistic.
But as it turns out, I’ve finally started to see through the illusion (错觉) of Shein-like platforms. To get these occasional incredible deals, you are encouraged to shop much more than is necessary or even reasonable. This illusion has worked for a long time and for a lot of people, including me! But it’s become harder and harder to ignore the environmental consequences of my purchases, and the ways in which platforms trick people into buying more and more.
And I don’t think I’m the only one experiencing that awakening. Broadly speaking, I think society is slowly but surely shifting toward recognizing the climate impact of mass-produced cheap goods. While these conversations have yet to happen as widely and furiously in China, companies like Taobao and Shein will inevitably have to answer the question of whether their business model is sustainable for everyone—or only for themselves. So where are they beading from here? There’s certainly a lot of soul-searching for the industry to do.
And I’m doing some soul-searching of my own.
1. Why does the author mention a “$2 nylon watchband”?A.To compare it with her original band. |
B.To persuade readers to buy it. |
C.To show her satisfaction with Shein. |
D.To show its cheapness. |
A.High-quantity. | B.Expensive. |
C.High-quality. | D.Original. |
A.They get incredible products on sale. |
B.They often buy much more than what they need. |
C.They ignore the environmental impacts. |
D.They are tricked into buying more and more reasonable products. |
A.Environmental harm. | B.Price reduction. |
C.Energy shortage. | D.Worldwide starvation. |
