The listening skill is the keystone of developing interpersonal (人际的) relationships, but it is also one of the most ignored language skills in teaching environments. The lack of listening skills is a major challenge to children in the classroom. Then what can we do?

·Teach them how to listen and show why it is necessary for good communication with others. Make it fun and try a new game: Tell them to talk, sit down and be quiet. Do it with them with about five seconds in between. Move it to 10 seconds and then 15.

·Make another game out of it using a favorite doll. Storytelling is one of the best ways to practice this skill. Let the doll tell a story. Then let the children practice by holding the doll and let them tell a story. When you talk, show them how to pay attention and listen. When they talk, show them how you are quiet and pay attention. Take turns repeating the story to each other.

·Read to your children. Before you begin, tell the children you are going to zip (拉上拉链) their lips and then pretend (假装) to do it. Tell them you are going to lock the zipper and throw away the key. When they want to say something, get the pretend key and unlock the pretend lock and unzip the pretend zipper and let them talk.

It’s a good idea to get started on this as soon as possible. If you do, interaction (互动) and communication at playgroups, in school and in many   other places will be less stressful and more productive in the end.

If you want an ad-free experience and other extras, you can pay for Duolingo Plus. The app encourages you to keep going, even if it’s just for a few minutes each day. The exercises are interesting, switching between different types of practice in order to test your reading, listening, and speaking as you progress.

Memrise

With a colorful, friendly interface (界面) and a gentle learning curve (曲线). Memrise is perfect for those who want to learn the basics of a language. And as a little confidence booster, Memrise displays summary screens at the end of each exercise, tracking your progress to fluency.

【推荐2】If you ever wanted to learn a new language, I recommend that you test the waters on your own before working with a teacher.     1     You can set your own goals and track your progress of how you are doing and it forces you to be more proactive and take greater initiative(主动性) for your own learning. Here are three easy steps for learning a language on your own!

Step 1: Online Language Sites

Learning always begins with the self.     2     The first time I tried to learn French online, I used Babbel, and I loved it! I love their site because it is very interactive and makes learning more interesting! They don’t make you learn a lot of information at once. Instead, it breaks it down in chapters and introduces only a few vocabulary each time. Then, it tests your memory using multiple choice and fill-in-the-blanks. Finally, it ends off with a listening comprehension session, where you learn how the words are now used in the context of a real conversation.

Step 2: Find a Language Partner

Once you have started to grasp some basic grammar and vocabulary, it is time to find someone to practice with you! Personally, this is my favorite part because I like meeting and helping people, so this is killing two birds with one stone.     3     For many years, I have used Conversation Exchange to help me find a language partner when I am in a new city. However, if you prefer an online conversation, they can also do that too!

Step 3: Practice Makes Perfect!

Take some time to meet a few language partners before you decide who is going to work best for your learning style.     4     One way that I like to practice is to try to create sentences on my own, for example, “I like to in my free time.” Since I don’t know the word in my target language, I will be forced to look it up in the dictionary to complete my sentence. I have learned a new word in the context of a sentence. Therefore, I have a better memory association since I actively used it.

A.I suggest 20 minutes in one language and then switch to the other language for another 20 minutes.
B.Since you are also teaching someone your native tongue in exchange for learning theirs, it’s a win-win situation and you both learn something for free!
C.For this reason, I recommend taking the initiative to learn on your own using an online language software before reaching out to others to help you.
D.It really is an all-in-one interactive package that makes learning fun.
E.Everyone learns differently, so it is important that you discuss what method will work for both of you and how your exchanges are conducted.
F.Learning on your own has many benefits.

【推荐3】English is a very interesting language. It has borrowed words from many other languages. Immigrants (移民) coming into the United States have contributed many words to the language, which have kept their original pronunciation. “Coolie” and “kowtow” were taken from the Chinese language, “kamikaze” from Japanese, “shampoo” from Indian, “blitz” from German, “amigo” and “Los Angeles” from Spanish and so on.

Many students have studied English for years, some as many as eight. However, some students still have difficulty in speaking fluent English. Some know many words, but are unable to discern them when native speakers use them. In our oral English classes we will focus on speaking and listening to native English speakers. Because we are trying to train your ears to hear English and your mouths to speak intelligible (易理解的) English, we will have a rule that ONLY ENGLISH will be spoken in our English classes. Anyone speaking Chinese in class will be required to pay a fine (罚款) in order to encourage the speaking and understanding of English. If teachers enter a classroom and discover that anyone is speaking Chinese, they will require everyone in the room to pay the fine. It is everyone’s job to enforce the English-Only rule. It is for your benefit. It is because we want to accustom (使习惯于) your ears to hearing English.

Other subjects may be learned only from books but the only way to learn a foreign language is to SPEAK IT! Students are often nervous about speaking in class at first but we hope to make the classes fun, so you will forget your nervousness and learn to speak out. Enjoy your classes.
