The listening skill is the keystone of developing interpersonal (人际的) relationships, but it is also one of the most ignored language skills in teaching environments. The lack of listening skills is a major challenge to children in the classroom. Then what can we do?
·Teach them how to listen and show why it is necessary for good communication with others. Make it fun and try a new game: Tell them to talk, sit down and be quiet. Do it with them with about five seconds in between. Move it to 10 seconds and then 15.
·Make another game out of it using a favorite doll. Storytelling is one of the best ways to practice this skill. Let the doll tell a story. Then let the children practice by holding the doll and let them tell a story. When you talk, show them how to pay attention and listen. When they talk, show them how you are quiet and pay attention. Take turns repeating the story to each other.
·Read to your children. Before you begin, tell the children you are going to zip (拉上拉链) their lips and then pretend (假装) to do it. Tell them you are going to lock the zipper and throw away the key. When they want to say something, get the pretend key and unlock the pretend lock and unzip the pretend zipper and let them talk.
It’s a good idea to get started on this as soon as possible. If you do, interaction (互动) and communication at playgroups, in school and in many other places will be less stressful and more productive in the end.

You might be surprised at how much you can gain from the apps on your phones. Here we’ve chosen four apps that can act as personal language tutors.
Duolingo
The app boasts a simple learning system and easy progress tracking. Plus, it makes all these educational features available for free. If you want an ad-free experience and other extras, you can pay for Duolingo Plus. The app encourages you to keep going, even if it’s just for a few minutes each day. The exercises are interesting, switching between different types of practice in order to test your reading, listening, and speaking as you progress.
Rosetta Stone
This app especially suits people who have time to si t down and dedicate blocks of time to language learning. We like this app’s clever and intuitive (易懂的) use of flashcards, as well is its pronunciation training exercises.
Memrise
With a colorful, friendly interface (界面) and a gentle learning curve (曲线). Memrise is perfect for those who want to learn the basics of a language. And as a little confidence booster, Memrise displays summary screens at the end of each exercise, tracking your progress to fluency.
Babbel
Babbel provides a mix of conversational topics that teach you how to use the language in real-life situations. Its combination of repetition and variety has been carefully adjusted, However, the app’s interface isn’t quite as polished as some of the other options. This app gives you the added bonus of a pronunciation trainer. But you can’t get far without paying it a fee.

【推荐3】English is a very interesting language. It has borrowed words from many other languages. Immigrants (移民) coming into the United States have contributed many words to the language, which have kept their original pronunciation. “Coolie” and “kowtow” were taken from the Chinese language, “kamikaze” from Japanese, “shampoo” from Indian, “blitz” from German, “amigo” and “Los Angeles” from Spanish and so on.
Many students have studied English for years, some as many as eight. However, some students still have difficulty in speaking fluent English. Some know many words, but are unable to discern them when native speakers use them. In our oral English classes we will focus on speaking and listening to native English speakers. Because we are trying to train your ears to hear English and your mouths to speak intelligible (易理解的) English, we will have a rule that ONLY ENGLISH will be spoken in our English classes. Anyone speaking Chinese in class will be required to pay a fine (罚款) in order to encourage the speaking and understanding of English. If teachers enter a classroom and discover that anyone is speaking Chinese, they will require everyone in the room to pay the fine. It is everyone’s job to enforce the English-Only rule. It is for your benefit. It is because we want to accustom (使习惯于) your ears to hearing English.
Other subjects may be learned only from books but the only way to learn a foreign language is to SPEAK IT! Students are often nervous about speaking in class at first but we hope to make the classes fun, so you will forget your nervousness and learn to speak out. Enjoy your classes.

The company announced it is bringing palm scanners (掌纹扫描仪) to one of its Whole Foods stores in Seattle, with plans to roll out the new payment system to eight stores in the Seattle area in the coming months. Customers will hold their hands above the scanner for a contact-free payment method.
The scanners are already available (可用的) at one of those Seattle stores — its Madison Broadway location. Amazon plans to increase availability further after this first test run. “We’re always looking for new ways to improve the shopping experience for our customers,” said Arun Rajan, chief technology officer at Whole Foods.
To make use of the new service, customers will give Whole Foods their bank card information to make a connection with their palm print. They can choose to use a different payment method, such as cash, check or other bank cards, in later visits.
Amazon has already tried the system, which it calls Amazon One, at some of its own stores in Seattle, including Amazon Go and Amazon Go Grocery, which have allowed customers to pick the things they want and then leave the store without checking out, as sensors (传感器) and cameras track their purchases.
That checkout-free technology has been criticized (批评) as a way to avoid the need for workers.
Whole Foods said this new palm scanner will not have any effect on employment in the stores where it is offered.
“Amazon One is an additional payment choice at checkout, and Whole Foods Market Team Members will continue to maintain all of their present responsibilities,” said the company’s statement.

However, you still have agreed-upon ways to acknowledge that you did something wrong and to express your remorse to others. When you have harmed someone, a genuine, well-given apology demonstrates that you care about them, allows you to take responsibility for your actions, rebuilds trust, and prevents the further deterioration of relationships. It can also help you avoid the shame and guilt of wronging someone from eating away at your self-esteem.
A proper apology should express your understanding that you've done something wrong. Telling somebody “I'm sorry you feel that way!” is not an adequate apology. You should also be aware of over apologizing; it can have negative effects, too. So try to make an effective apology when the situation calls for one.
As Professor Karen A. Cerulo from the University of New Jersey explained, an effective apology has several elements. Number one: don't wait. Forget your ego. Unless you're involved in a legal situation, where you're advised not to speak, you should make an apology right away. Second, don't apologize for what people thought. Instead of saying, “Tm sorry that you misunderstood me!” or “I'm sorry that you misinterpreted or misread my actions!”, apologize for what you did—not for what other people might have thought about it. Third, don't give context. The “why” of what you did is less important to people than your regret and remorse. Finally, there's really a successful formula that you need to use: identify your victim right up front, then express remorse, and, if possible, make restitution.
Dr. Ben Ho, an associate professor of economics at Vasser College, says that people often want to see an apology that costs something. This cost doesn't have to be financial; it can come in the form of admitting your incompetence in making the previous error or promising to do better in the future.
As for promises, avoid the ones that can't be kept. Don't say that you’ll ensure that this will not happen again if you not confident it won't. It could come back to bite you, Martin Stone of Public Relation agency Tank explains. And do remember that the use of "but” can hugely change the tone of an apology. As Stone points out, “I'm sorry but …” sounds like you are making excuses and aren't actually taking any form of responsibility.
