I was studying for a huge science test when my little brother and sister burst into the kitchen, singing at the top of their lungs: Squirrels (松鼠) in the garden, Squirrels in the tree, I’m a happy squirrel, Look at me. . . Then, just as soon as they finished, they started singing all over again.
“Wow! That’s a pretty catchy song, ” I said after the third time around. But I asked them to stop singing as I was trying to study.
“Sorry, Zona, ” said Indi. “But we really do need to keep singing it. Our music teacher said so!” “Yeah, ” said Tex. “Our class is putting on a squirrel play for Parents Night, and we have to memorize every single word by Friday!” Indi added that they had to make their own tails and ears and dumped (倾倒 ) out a bag full of furry costume parts. “Can you help us?”
“Maybe in a little while, ” I said. “Right now, I need to read my book. ”
Tex and Indi sang that song while they were making their costumes, while they were doing their housework, and even while they were brushing their teeth!
Since Tex and Indi squeaked (吱吱叫) and sang every day that week, I wasn’t as prepared as I wanted to be for my test on Friday. And in the middle of taking my test, the squirrel song started playing over and over in my head. It was almost impossible for me to focus on the last few questions.
When I got home that afternoon, all I wanted to do was a rest on the couch. The only thing was, Tex and Indi had beaten me to it.
“Can you please let me sit too?” I complained. “I had a bad day!” “We had a bad day too!” said Tex. “Yeah, ” said Indi. “A group of kids in our class got sick, so tonight’s play is canceled!”
We were just three unhappy persons sitting in silence for a really long time. Even though I had been complaining about their singing, it broke my heart to see them disappointed. They had been so excited about the show. I said after a while, “I can’t let all of your practising go to waste. ”

I wanted to go to a party. It was a beach party. It had been almost the only thing my friends had been talking about for the last couple of weeks. But my mom had said no. “You are not allowed to go,” replied my mother. I was disappointed. This was my best friend’s party.
Sunday dinner came around and my granny joined the family for the meal. Granny noticed how upset I had been looking during the meal but didn’t say a thing. It was my turn to wash up and Granny said, “Let me help you”, while the rest of the family shifted into the living room to watch TV.
“What’s up?” asked Granny as I dumped the dishes into the foaming (起泡的) water. Granny wiped a plate with a tea towel. “Mom won’t let me go to my best friend’s party,” I said sadly. “Has Mom explained why she doesn’t want you to go?” asked Granny. “No,” I replied. “Then for a moment, put yourself in her position,” said Granny. “If you were Mom, what would your objections be?
I hadn’t stopped to think about my mom’s side. All I had seen was what I wanted. “Well,” I answered after thinking for a moment or two, “It’s a beach party. Maybe she doesn’t trust us or thinks we’ll get into trouble. Maybe she thinks we’ll drown or something, but we all know how to swim and look after ourselves.”
“Are there going to be any adults there?” asked Granny. “No,” I said, “Who wants parents hanging around when you’re trying to have fun?” “Might it just be,” said Granny, “that your mother is concerned and doesn’t want anything to happen to you?” “Nothing will happen,” I objected. “Maybe you’re right,” said Granny, “but maybe Mom’s worried in case it could.”

Excitement filled the air as Tom and Jack eagerly packed their buckets and shovels (铲子), ready to explore the sandy wonders that awaited them. The moment they arrived at the beach, they wasted no time and rushed directly towards the shoreline.
With the wind brushing gently over their cheeks, Tom and Jack dug their hands into the soft grains of sand, laughing happily as they felt grains of sand passing through their fingers. Their laughter was echoing along the coast.
Then the two little brothers decided to build a splendid sand castle that would leave everyone in awe. With the sound of seabirds singing in the background, they began their grand project. Side by side, they cupped their hands, dug into the soft beach, and started building their dream castle. With great care and precision, they sculpted and shaped the sand with their fingers, crafting each tower and wall. The boys were lost in their work, feeling the warmth of the sand beneath their fingers. They seemed to hear whispering tales of the distant, mysterious ocean.
Time seemed to stand still as the boys poured their hearts into every detail of their sandy creation. With each passing moment, the sand castle grew in both size and beauty and it began to take shape. Together, they patiently decorated their dream castle with seashells and twigs, imagining a world of soldiers, princesses, and magical creatures.
Seeing the castle stand proudly before them, the two little brothers breathed out a sigh of relief. Their eyes shone with excitement. They were like architects who were appreciating their masterpiece that expressed their extraordinary imagination.

I love my family and I will remember the happy day forever!
When my son was seven years old, he wanted nothing more than to have a friend. Although he tried to make friends, the fact that he was autistic (患自闭症的) and largely non-verbal made other children his age uncomfortable. Almost never had another child accept an invitation for a play date.
My son handled the rejection much better than I did. He told me that he had been praying that he would get a best friend and he knew that his prayers were going to be answered because of what a man told him in a dream.
When the “nice man” in his dream asked him what he wanted in a best friend, my son said that he wanted someone who would always play with him, and who would like to run around a lot but also be calm at times. This best friend would be there and help him feel better when he was sad, would stick by him when he was sick, and would never want to get away from him. When he told the man this, the man smiled and told my son that he had picked out the perfect best friend for him.
The next night he had the dream again. In his dream, the nice man told my son he had picked out a puppy to be his best friend. This puppy would love to play, and would love to run around, but would also want to be calm and just cuddle. When my son was sick, the puppy would stay by him, protecting him. When he was sad, the puppy would lick him, and make him feel better. This puppy would love my son more than anyone or anything else in the world, and would be the very best friend that a boy could have.
When my son told me all of this, I was shocked. My son, who rarely spoke more than a few words at a time, was calmly explaining paragraphs’ worth of information to me. Despite this, what my son said next shocked me even more.
“Mummy, he also told me that I am getting my puppy today. She is a girl puppy, with black on her back, and brown on her belly. She is not very big, and will run up to me when I see her, jump up on me, and lick my face while she wags her tail. Her name is going to be Zorro, and I love her already. We need to go to the building and get her. She is waiting for me. The man told me.”
Paragraph 1:
Immediately after telling me this, my son yelled and pointed at a building on the side of the road.

As Alina sat gently rocking and singing, her two-year-old son was lying on her chest (胸口). He was suffering from a serious disease. It was December 22nd, and they were staying at the hospital.
As Alina rocked, her mind was working overtime. She was worrying about money. She was working as a manager for a retail(零售) chain, and it was the busiest time of the year. Alina had already taken almost all her vacation time and knew she would not be paid for the days she was now taking off. And she had only a couple of hundred dollars in the bank.
But Alina s main concern was her son. His health had not been good. She didn' t know how she would be able to manage, working full-time and looking after him. Feeling sad, Alina felt the tears well up and spill over (溢出).
And that' s when Lorna arrived. She had been Alina s assistant.Quickly blinking (眨眼睛) back the tears, Alina welcomed her in.Lorna had come to offer some support and had brought a card signed by the office staff, about fifteen people. Alina was touched they were thinking of her during a completely crazy work week. But as she read the card, she discovered there was more. Inside the card was this note.Dear Alina. We want to help. Each person who has signed this card has donated one vacation day into your account. We know you need to spend some time with your son and don' t want you to worry about having to take time off without pay."
Even the company owner had donated a day to her. Alina was speechless and got quite choked up (哽咽). The tears held back earlier now threatened to spill over again. She was so touched by such kindness.
After Lorna left, Alina felt an inner peace and a deep gratitude. If only they could get home in time, she felt sure she could pull some sort of Christmas celebration together for her kid. Alina went to sleep that night with renewed hope.

The shop owner enthusiastically presented various special pets to Tigger, but none caught his attention until he noticed a cage in the distance. “What’s in there?” he asked.
“That’s Marmalade, just a regular parrot.” the owner replied.
Curious, Tigger approached the cage. The big white bird cocked her head to one side and let out a little squawk (尖叫).
“Can she talk?” Tigger asked.
The pet shop owner nodded, “Sometimes. She will talk when she has something important to say.”
“That makes her unique,” said Tigger, “and she will be my pet.”
After the purchase, he lifted the cage off the counter and walked proudly out of the shop.
At home, Tigger placed Marmalade on his bedroom desk. He pushed his face up close to the cage and said, “Watch my lips, Marmalade. My name is Tigger. Now say hello Tigger!”
Marmalade hopped round the cage. She pecked at seeds lying on the floor. She tapped the hanging silver bell with her beak, but she did not say a word.
Despite her quietness, Tigger consistently shared his school day with Marmalade as soon as he came back.
One afternoon, Tigger returned home late. Marmalade acted quite strangely. She glared at the door, walking round and round the cage. She jumped up on the wires and banged the silver bell with her beak. Then she stopped and opened her beak as if she was going to talk. But before she could say a word, Tigger rushed into the room waving a yellow piece of paper.
“Look, Marmalade!”
He pushed the paper against the cage. “The school’s annual pet show is tomorrow. And guess what? I’ve entered you. Unlike other years, besides judges, our headmaster, Mr. White, will select a special winner. I believe you’ll enjoy it.” Yet, Marmalade remained silent.
The next morning, Tigger woke early. He cleaned out Marmalade’s cage, filled the dishes with water and seeds and polished the bell.
“You know, Marmalade,” he said happily, “I’m sure no one will have a pet like you, a talking bird. Marmalade will be the winner!”
