Best Time to Visit

The best time to visit Toronto is typically in the spring (April and May) or during the fall (September to early November). At these times, you’ll likely find fewer crowds, cheaper accommodations, and the best weather for sightseeing as it is neither too hot nor too cold.

Getting Around

The Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) makes it easy to get around the city via many buses, subway, and streetcars. Figuring out how to get where you want to go is easily done using the TTC’s convenient Trip Planner.

Travel Tip

While you may choose to base yourself near many of the city’s main landmarks, it’s also worth taking some time to explore some great neighborhoods that each offer their own unique charms, including colorful Kensington Market, the Junction, Leslieville, and Little India.

Things to Do

Get a Dose of Art & Culture: The Royal Ontario Museum is Canada’s largest museum and showcases everything from art and archaeology to natural science in over 30 galleries. Or, stop by the Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO), one of the largest art museums in North America with a collection of more than 90,000 works of art.

Take in the Views From the CN Tower: High-speed elevators send visitors to the top of the tower in just 58 seconds for full views over the city. You can even try EdgeWalk to experience a hands-free walk around the main pod of the tower, 116 stories above the ground.

【推荐2】There are many heritage sites in the world. The following are four sites in UNESCO’s World Heritage List.

Dinosaur Provincial Park, Canada

The park is best known for its extensive fossil (化石) beds, within which 35 species of dinosaurs from about 100 to 65 million years ago have been identified. There are also fossilized remains of fish, reptiles, and amphibians. The area was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1979.

Salonga National Park, Congo

This is the largest tropical rainforest reserve in Congo, covering about 36, 000km. The park was established in 1970. The thick forest provides habitats for various animals like parrots, elephants and monkeys. Park visitors observe the animals from motorized riverboats. The park was entered into the list of UNESCO World Heritage sites in 1984.

Hadrian’s Wall, Britain

This is a Roman barrier that guarded the border of Britain. Hadrian, the Roman emperor from 117 CE to 138 CE, went to Britain in 122 CE and was the first to build a wall, 73 miles long, to separate the Romans from the barbarians. There was no intention of fighting from the wall top; the soldiers there were trained to encounter the enemy in the open. In 1987, Hadrian’s Wall was recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage site.

Easter Island, Chile

【推荐3】They say there are three ways to experience the Grand Canyon—on foot, on mules (骡子) or by air. We chose the first. Up early, my husband and I and our three children couldn’t wait to get started. We decided to walk along a lovely path named Bright Angel Trail.

As we set out, I was shocked at how narrow the path was. And I couldn’t help noticing that the other tourists weren’t like us. They had heavy backpacks, water bottles, and hats. But as usual we were dressed. As the sun rose higher, Arizona's famous heat seemed to roast us. There was no shade and our legs were aching. We decided to go back, with the girl on my back and the boys far behind. By the time we finally got back, our legs were like jelly.

The next day, after we’d had a long rest and a good breakfast, we were ready for another view of the Canyon—by air. After our last walk, this would be the easiest thing in the world.

We called to each other excitedly as the plane took off and circled around the Canyon. But the smiles on our faces disappeared as the pilot tossed (翻转) the plane around, pretending he was going to hit the ground. I shouted, “STOP, TAKE US BACK!” When we finally arrived back on land, once again our legs were like jelly. We hardly spoke as we drove back.

As I said, there are three ways to view the Grand Canyon. We never tried the mules, but personally I’d suggest a fourth—buy yourself a good magazine like National Geographic: That way, you can see the Canyon, without fear or tiredness.

1. Which of the following is true according to the second paragraph?
A.Bright Angel Trail was not as lovely as they expected.
B.The other tourists were dressed inappropriately.
C.They made a careful preparation before the trip.
D.The children were more joyful than their parents.
2. The underlined expression “Our legs were like jelly” probably means________.
A.we were disappointedB.we were dissatisfied
C.we were unhappyD.we were weak
3. Which of the following best describes their Canyon trip by air?
A.It turned out to be exciting.B.It made each of them tired.
C.It proved to be frightening.D.It was more comfortable.
4. We can infer from the passage that ________.
A.one needs to dress less when visiting the Grand Canyon
B.experiencing the Canyon on mules would be the best way
C.the whole family narrowly escaped from the air accident
D.the writer was not serious when she made the suggestion
