China’s first overpass for wildlife migration has already come into use. Lying over the     1     (new) constructed National Highway 216, the bridge is able to link animal habitats     2     (separate) by the road.

The national highway     3     (design) with the environmental protection as a top priority. Based on years of     4     (science) observation of wildlife migration in the region, the bridge was built with the purpose of reducing the highway’s effect     5     the animals. The wildlife overpasses and underpasses let animals     6     (cross) over or under busy roadways safely and allow them to use     7     (they)customary paths, which would otherwise be blocked. Those passageways, with     8     total length of 59 kilometers, enable antelopes and other animals to go across the railway freely.

So far, China     9     (put) great effort into achieving harmonious coexistence between human development and the protection of wildlife. The Qinghai—Tibet Railway,     10     is the world’s highest railroad, has 33 underpasses for the migrating animals.

In the past 70 years, great achievements     1     (gain) in environmental protection in China. Especially in recent decades, a series of wildlife protection movements     2     (carry) out by the government. As a result, impressive progress     3     (make) in protecting several species, such as the giant panda and the red ibis (朱鹮). Nowadays some pandas     4     (feed) by keepers and when they grow up, they     5     (release) into the wild. In 1981, only seven red ibises     6     (find) in Yangxian County,Shaanxi Province. Since then, breeding programs have helped the population reach over 5,000.

In China, key projects     7     (set) up continually in the future to improve wildlife protection, including making rare wild animals and plants under state protection, and also fighting against illegal wildlife trade, which includes the ivory (象牙) trade.

Tibetan antelopes live on the plains of Tibet, Xinjiang and Qinghai. Today they are     1     danger. Over the past years, people     2    (hunt) antelopes illegally for their valuable fur. The 1980s and 1990s were bad times for the Tibetan antelopes, when the population     3    (drop) by more than 50 percent. Hunters were shooting antelopes to make profits. Their habitats were becoming smaller as new roads and railways were built.

In order to save Tibetan antelopes from extinction, the Chinese government placed     4    (they) under national protection. Volunteers would watch over the antelopes day and night     5    (keep) them safe from attacks. Bridges and gates were added to let the antelopes move     6    (easy) and keep them safe from cars and trains. The measures were     7    (effect). The antelope population recovered and in June 2015, the Tibetan antelope was removed from the endangered species list.     8    , the government doesn’t intend to stop the protection programs and will continue to protect the Tibetan antelopes.

Much is being done to protect wildlife, but if we really want to save the planet     9     we live on, we must change our way of life. Only when we learn to exist in harmony with nature can we stop being     10     threat to wildlife and to our planet.

Changes in global markets have led to a lot of confusion about what can and can't be recycled these days.

The city of Flagstaff is dealing with that confusion through its Master Recycler program,     1    goal is to shed light on the connection between personal consumption and climate change.     2    （hope),the program will influence behaviors,like choosing     3    （little) packaging, throwing away fewer items and finally decreasing use of disposable(一次性的）materials.

The eight-week course offers     4    （participate) the basics of cutting food waste,using water more     5    （efficient),cutting down on greenhouse gas emissions from transportation, and becoming better     6    (inform) about recycling.

This year,the city will combine the Master Recycler and Climate Leaders programs to create a group     7    （call) Sustainability Leaders. After graduating from the course,they'll go out into the community,where they'll staff tables at local events, start pilot projects at work,     8    organize field trips.

Zero Wasters, as they are called, help each other by sharing advice on blogs and social media. A lot of people have given     4    (value) advice on the subject recently. Some of the advice includes where to buy things     5     (avoid) unwanted packaging and how to recycle things that most people throw away. Bea Johnson, a housewife, says that reducing shopping means her family has more money for fun vacations     6     ever before. She, who is satisfied with the fact,     7    (say) all their clothing comes from used clothing stores. She says that has reduced her household spending     8     40 percent.

Zero Wasters advocate     9    (talk) about five “Rs” that describe what they do: Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Rot. They request that things like remaining food not     10    (throw) away randomly and refuse containers at restaurants.
